GitHub Desktop
Focus on what matters instead of fighting with Git. Whether you’re new to Git or a seasoned user, GitHub Desktop simplifies your development workflow.
Download the native macOS build for Apple silicon machines. If you don’t know whether your machine has an Apple or Intel chip, see the Apple docs.
By downloading, you agree to the Open Source Applications Terms.
Attribute commits with collaborators easily
Quickly add co-authors to your commit. Great for pairing and excellent for sending a little love/credit to that special someone who helped fix that gnarly bug of yours. See the attribution on the history page, undo an accidental attribution, and see the co-authors on github.com
Checkout branches with pull requests and view CI statuses
See all open pull requests for your repositories and check them out as if they were a local branch, even if they’re from upstream branches or forks. See which pull requests pass commit status checks, too!
Syntax highlighted diffs
The new GitHub Desktop supports syntax highlighting when viewing diffs for a variety of different languages.
Expanded image diff support
Easily compare changed images. See the before and after, swipe or fade between the two, or look at just the changed parts.
Extensive editor & shell integrations
Open your favorite editor or shell from the app, or jump back to GitHub Desktop from your shell. GitHub Desktop is your springboard for work.
Community supported
GitHub Desktop is open source now! Check out our roadmap, contribute, and help us make collaboration even easier.

GitHub Desktop for Mac
GitHub Desktop 2.9.4 LATEST
Mac OS X 10.10 or later
GitHub Desktop for Mac 2021 full offline installer setup for Mac
GitHub Desktop for Mac is a seamless way to contribute to projects on GitHub and GitHub Enterprise. GitHub Desktop allows developers to synchronize branches, clone repositories, and more. Pull requests, merge button, fork queue, issues, pages, wiki: all awesome features that make sharing easier. But those things are only great after you’ve pushed your code to the tool.
Features and Highlights
Start a project
You’ll find all the projects you’re working on listed in the sidebar. If you’re starting a new project, use the repository drop down menu to create a new repository or clone an existing one directly from GitHub.com.
Branch off
Branches are essential to proposing changes and reviewing code on the app—and they’re always available in the top left corner of the repository view. Just select the current branch to switch branches or create a new one.
Craft the perfect commit
View a diff of your uncommitted changes, and form the perfect commit by selecting the files—or even the specific lines—that make up a change. Enter the summary and description, then commit.
Synchronize branches
The sync button pushes your changes to the app and pulls down other’s changes in one operation. It notifies you to know when you have changes you haven’t pushed or there are new changes on the tool you haven’t pulled down.
Clone repositories in one click
When you add repositories to Git Hub Desktop for macOS, it automatically matches them up with any organizations you belong to. Want to pull down a repository from GitHub.com? Check out the button on the website.
Powerfully simple branching
Branching is one of Git’s best features. «We’ve made it easy to try out remote branches, create new local branches and publish branches to share with others.»
Note: Requires 64-bit processor.

Github desktop mac os
GitHub Desktop is an open source Electron-based GitHub app. It is written in TypeScript and uses React.
Where can I get it?
Download the official installer for your operating system:
You can install this alongside your existing GitHub Desktop for Mac or GitHub Desktop for Windows application.
NOTE: there is no current migration path to import your existing repositories into the new application — you can drag-and-drop your repositories from disk onto the application to get started.
Want to test out new features and get fixes before everyone else? Install the beta channel to get access to early builds of Desktop:
The release notes for the latest beta versions are available here.
There are several community-supported package managers that can be used to install GitHub Desktop:
- Windows users can install using Chocolatey package manager: c:\> choco install github-desktop
- macOS users can install using Homebrew package manager: $ brew install —cask github
Installers for various Linux distributions can be found on the shiftkey/desktop fork.
Arch Linux users can install the latest version from the AUR.
Is GitHub Desktop right for me? What are the primary areas of focus?
This document describes the focus of GitHub Desktop and who the product is most useful for.

I have a problem with GitHub Desktop
Note: The GitHub Desktop Code of Conduct applies in all interactions relating to the GitHub Desktop project.
First, please search the open issues and closed issues to see if your issue hasn’t already been reported (it may also be fixed).
There is also a list of known issues that are being tracked against Desktop, and some of these issues have workarounds.
If you can’t find an issue that matches what you’re seeing, open a new issue, choose the right template and provide us with enough information to investigate further.
The issue I reported isn’t fixed yet. What can I do?
If nobody has responded to your issue in a few days, you’re welcome to respond to it with a friendly ping in the issue. Please do not respond more than a second time if nobody has responded. The GitHub Desktop maintainers are constrained in time and resources, and diagnosing individual configurations can be difficult and time consuming. While we’ll try to at least get you pointed in the right direction, we can’t guarantee we’ll be able to dig too deeply into any one person’s issue.
How can I contribute to GitHub Desktop?
The CONTRIBUTING.md document will help you get setup and familiar with the source. The documentation folder also contains more resources relevant to the project.
If you’re looking for something to work on, check out the help wanted label.

Installing GitHub Desktop
You can install GitHub Desktop on supported Windows or macOS operating systems.
About GitHub Desktop installation
You can install GitHub Desktop on supported operating systems, which currently include macOS 10.12 or later and Windows 7 64-bit or later. If you have an account on GitHub or GitHub Enterprise, you can connect your account to GitHub Desktop. For more information about creating an account, see «Signing up for a new GitHub account» or contact your GitHub Enterprise site administrator.
If you are a network administrator, you can deploy GitHub Desktop to computers running Windows on an Active Directory-managed network by using the Windows Installer package file ( .msi ) with Group Policy or another remote installation system.
The Windows Installer package extracts the standalone installer ( .exe ) and configures Windows to install GitHub Desktop the next time a user signs in to their workstation. Users must have permissions to install GitHub Desktop in their user directory.
If a user runs the Windows Installer package for GitHub Desktop directly, to complete the installation, the user must sign out of their workstation and then sign back in.
