This is the Windows version running via WINE. It is experimental. Some games may not work correctly, or at all. Your mileage may vary.

Some games might require you to run snap connect gog-galaxy-wine:hardware-observe , and/or snap connect gog-galaxy-wine:process-control in a terminal (or use the Software Centre in Ubuntu 18.04 to toggle «Access to hardware information» and/or «Pause ro end any process on the system») to grant extra permissions for the application. Though all the games tested so far do not need these permissions.

Please release the GOG Galaxy client for Linux, because there are many penguins out there who would prefer to buy games on your site, but don’t do so, because of the convenience of the Steam client. Sorry for my bad english, but I’m no native speaker 😉

I’m currently in the process of ditching Windows for PopOS, I too would like to see GoG Galaxy working on Linux in some way. Please and thank you!

Steam is doing a really nice job this way. I played Dyson Sphere on Manjaro XFCE. In addition to the Workshop it’s so much space for GOG to «get better». I hope you will figure it out someday, because your DRM-free policy is a really nice-to-have.

With Steam Deck incoming, GoG sais goodbye, despite DRM or whatever.

It has been in progress for at least 6 years now. That’s disappointing.

What on Earth is the GOG team doing? If they don’t release a GOG Galaxy client for Linux with a Proton-like compatibility layer by the time the Steam Deck launches, I will be leaving GOG for Steam despite my preference for GOG’s DRM-free games.

According to wayback maschiene since 2015 «in progress». Just disappointing considering this is the most requested feature. As much as I like gog, I prefer to buy my games on Steam.

Ive started to use GOG recently due to it having games like Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2 available. a few days ago i went to reset windows only to find out i literally could not reinstall it again for seemingly no reason. as a windows refugee running linux i would greatly appreciate seeing the launcher have Linux support.

Linux support is important if GOG wants to win my business. I am moving to Linux soon and if I can’t run GOG Galaxy on Linux I might just use Steam.

As far as I know cd project abandoned gog galaxy development on linux, I don’t understand why this is still in progress. They should clear it up.

Why not use the GTK (gtk.org) for cross platform (Linux, Windows, Mac) support? I think you also can use it for game development.

We Linux users are the SAME people who use Windows.
Because we decided otherwise, we didn’t have to put us at a disadvantage.

That’s because DRM free is used as a marketing tool, they don’t actually care.
Making cross platform GUI software has been easy for a long time (longer than GOG Galaxy has existed) thanks to frameworks like QT.

If it is too difficult for you, please publish all documentation and developer tools, linux community will create an open-source gog client themselves

I’m in the process switching to Linux (Ubuntu-based Zorin OS). would be nice if all game developers do the same.

I emailed GOG to ask for an update on this on the 27th of August. On the 28th, they sent me a message saying that «more time» was required as my request «is currently being processed».

Hopefully they come up with an answer.

I also think making it more transparent that GOG Galaxy is bundled with the primary download and providing the bare installer seperate would minimize frustration.

I can understand the anger about this as it does bork a lot of Lutris install scripts. Owch.

If neither open-sourcing so community can do this or releasing on Linux themselves, shouldn’t the in-progress label be taken off for being misleading?

How long has this been «in progress» for? I _really_ wish they’d just do it. Heck, they could basically open source the client and the community would probably write it for them.

It would be nice, but it’s probably never going to happen.

At least, add the GOG Galaxy ass some kind of add on/app for the next version of the Steam OS. It’s about time to GOG join the open source systems and get another market of players.

Please, I really need a client for Linux, I would gladly buy a bunch of games here, but I’m not ready to return to Windows for this. For many years, Nazaz left Windows and the only thing missing is GOG! Moreover, the performance of Linux in some games is already higher than that of Windows of 10-15%!

If there’s some technical difficulties slowing development of the Linux port of Galaxy could we at LEAST get a version of the old Gog.com Downloader? Just SOMETHING that can at least download, install and update games?

As a Linux user I am disappointed that this hasn’t moved forward. Also upset to see how many games lack the Linux version on gog when a Linux version is offered by Steam (Examples: XCOM & XCOM 2; Star Wars: KOTOR 2; Darkest Dungeon; Sword of the Stars: The Pit, etc). It seems as though gog is not very committed to Linux support. Admittedly I have turned to Steam and I’ve not been let down yet. I’m still ready to support gog when they start supporting Linux as they have promised.
