Fingerprint sensor Goodix GF3208 (27c6:5301) driver for Linux
I found a driver for Fingerprint sensor Goodix GF3208 here: https://github.com/yangyangnau/android_ … int/goodix
Can someone here port it to the desktop / laptop linux?
Thanks in advance.

Moving to AUR issues, Discussions, and PKGBUILD requests.

This should at least build manually and I can insmod/rmmod without error. I don’t have the hardware, so more tests are not possible. Feel free to create a (dkms) package.

You need the linux-headers package to build kernel modules.

Re: Fingerprint sensor Goodix GF3208 (27c6:5301) driver for Linux
Your dkms.conf doesn’t look right. Did it work with a manual build and insmod? You can manually copy the gf.ko to e.g. /usr/lib/modules/extramodules-4.15-ARCH if you need to test it e.g. during a boot.
Edit: By the way, that seems to be a usermode driver that only enables communication from the fingerprint reader to a user process. The driver alone should not help you, you’d also need an application to tell it what to do.

Please take a look to my repo here
Edit: By the way, that seems to be a usermode driver that only enables communication from the fingerprint reader to a user process.
As far as I know, this task is handled by GNOME user settings.

Re: Fingerprint sensor Goodix GF3208 (27c6:5301) driver for Linux
I’m not sure if $PWD is guaranteed to work in a dkms file, but I made you a pull request that compiles for me. (I used the first two steps from ubuntu)
As far as I know, this task is handled by GNOME user settings.
That only works if gnome knows how to talk to this fingerprint reader, and that is doubtful since the driver doesn’t seem to provide a well-known fingerprint api.

Goodix fingerprint linux driver
I got the Idepad 5 15 laptop w/o an OS installed. Everything is working fine under Linux except the Goodix fingerprint-reader device, because there is no driver to be found. Please, can Lenovo discuss with the Shenzhen Goodix Technology Co.,Ltd. company to bring driver support for the device to Linux?
Details of the device:
Device ID: 27c6:55a2
Device Manufacturer: Shenzhen Goodix Technology Co.,Ltd.

Re:Goodix Fingerprint-reader driversupport for Linux
Did you figure it out? I have the same laptop and the same Device ID. I was surprised that Linux even recognized it as such.

Re:Goodix Fingerprint-reader driversupport for Linux
Welcome to the Community Forums.
It would be good if you can share your machine type model / MTM (ex. 81C70000RK) from the sticker as it would help specify your machine variant. The machine type model / MTM consists of more than four characters.
You can try to check on the support site for the Biometrics drivers. On the support page, you may enter your machine serial number and the head to Drivers and Software tab, click on Manual Update and look for the biometrics drivers. Restart the machine and set up the fingerprint reader.

Re:Goodix Fingerprint-reader driversupport for Linux
Sadly, there are only Windows 10 biometrics drivers available for my laptop (Ideapad 5-15ARE05) but I’m running GNU/Linux. The producer of the fingerprint reader, Goodix, also forwards any questions about open source drivers for Linux to Lenovo. Are there people from Lenovo working on that?
The library for fingerprint readers on GNU/Linux, fprint, also doesn’t list this one as a supported device. In fact, they are aware of it being unsupported and list it here. It would be nice if Lenovo could put some people on the task of making that list smaller? 😉
