First, you really don’t need an antivirus for Ubuntu unless you’re planning on dealing with windows files and/or systems.

You can download Comodo Antivirus from their website, and choose your architecture 32bit or 64bit. Once downloaded, just press Ctrl + Alt + T on your keyboard to open Terminal. When it opens, navigate to where the file was downloaded (probably the Downloads folder), and run the command(s) below:

I would recommend ClamAV. To install run in terminal

1- Download below

2- Use below command to install

4- Use below command to set up

5- Run the below script

6 — You will find a shortcut on disktop for the app.

Install Comodo Antivirus For Linux 1.1 X86-64 On Ubuntu 12.10 — Desktop X86-64:

Step #2 Double click the .deb file to open it the Ubuntu Software Center, then click «Install».

Step #3 In terminal type: sudo /opt/COMODO/post_setup.sh .

In Ubuntu 12.04 the command to run the script begins with «sudo» because you have to run the script with administration privileges.

The command you type out in the terminal is: sudo /opt/COMODO/post_setup.sh

Then enter your password. Then just keep clicking «enter» to scroll down and see the «more» of the EULA, until you get to where it tells you Comodo has been successfully installed and the terminal prompts you for a fresh command for something else. Now close the terminal and you are done.

FAQ about Download Antivirus for Linux

Definitely. It used to be the case that Linux was not heavily targeted by malware writers for two main reasons. Firstly, the general popularity of Linux amongst home users wasn’t very high. This meant hackers had a low number of potential victims and hence a low ‘return on investment’ for their efforts. It was always far more lucrative to attack Windows because of its large user base. Secondly, the fact that there are many variations (distributions) of the Linux OS meant virus programmers would have to create and test separate attack code for each of them. Compare this to Windows where a single virus code is capable of infecting everybody that uses the operating system. In the past few years, however, both these points have been eroded. Firstly, there is a general increase in the popularity of the OS with more and more home users adopting Linux. The fact that major computer distributors like Dell are shipping desktops and laptops with Linux per-installed is testament to this shift. Secondly, the run-away popularity of easy-to-use distributions like Ubuntu has consolidated the fragmented Linux user base. Unfortunately, this makes it easier for hackers to create a single piece of virus code that will hit millions of users.
