How to uninstall Windows Education, and reinstall Windows 10

I was given Windows Education through my school when I was given my laptop.

Now that this Windows Education is about to expire, I have purchased Windows 10 and am hoping to install that instead.

When I try to put in my new product key for Windows 10, I get an error code not allowing me to do this.

How do I uninstall Windows Education, and install instead the Windows 10 software I just purchased?

Windows is very specific about matching product key to the application version. Right now you have Windows Education, which cannot be activated by a Windows Home or Pro Product key. You will have to do a «clean install» of the appropriate Windows version over top of your current version.

Hi mxnique, you will have to backup your data and clean install Windows 10 Home

Please backup your Data before proceeding . . .

Do you have Windows 10 Bootable Installation media?

If not, click this link:

to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can download the latest Windows 10 ISO (Select Create Installation Media for Another PC), you can create a bootable USB flash drive (min 8GB) using that tool

Then, Boot your PC from the Installation Media you just created (change Boot Order in your BIOS) to begin installing Windows 10

If you have problems booting from a boot disc, you may have UEFI BIOS:
Insert the Bootable Installation Media, then go into your BIOS and make the following changes:
1. Disable Secure Boot
2. Enable Legacy Boot
3. If Available enable CSM
4. If Required enable USB Boot
5. Move the device with the bootable disc to the top of the boot order
6. Save BIOS changes, restart your System and it should boot from the Installation Media

During the installation process skip the steps which ask for a product key and select the option ‘I am Reinstalling Windows 10 on this PC’,

Make sure you install the correct Edition of Windows 10 (Home, Pro . . . etc.) as your Product key is for . . .

NOTE: during the installation process, your system will reboot, at that point, you may need to go into your BIOS and change the boot order so your system boots from your Hard Drive, otherwise the installation may start all over again — do not remove the installation media at this point — do not remove the installation media until you reach the Desktop

Install or reinstall Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, or XP from scratch

A clean install of Windows is the right way to go when all other software troubleshooting you’ve tried has been unsuccessful and you want to install or reinstall a «clean» copy of Windows back on your computer.

Most of the time, a clean install is the thing you try after one of Windows’ automatic repair processes hasn’t solved your problem. A clean install will return your computer to pretty much the same state it was in the day you first turned it on.

In case it’s not clear yet: a clean install should be reserved for the most serious of Windows operating system problems since all the data on your primary hard drive partition (usually the C drive) is erased during the process.

How to Clean Install Windows

A clean install of Windows is accomplished during the Windows setup process by removing the existing Windows installation (assuming there is one) before installing a new operating system or reinstalling the existing one.

Remember, a clean install of Windows will erase everything from the drive that Windows is installed on. When we say everything, we mean everything. You’ll need to back up anything you want to save before you begin this process! You can back up your files online or use an offline backup tool.

In addition to backing up the individual files you want to keep, you should also prepare to reinstall your programs. Gather the original installation discs and downloaded program setups to any program you want to put back on your computer. One easy way to document all your installed programs is with the Save to text file option in CCleaner, accessible via Tools > Uninstall.

No program outside of those that come bundled with an original Windows setup will be on your computer after the clean install is complete.

If you only have a restore disc from your computer manufacturer but not an original Windows Setup disc or download, a clean install as described in the linked guides above may not be possible. Your restore disc might instead have a relatively similar process that will restore your entire PC, Windows, and programs, back to the factory default.

One of the significant changes made to Windows 10 v2004 is Cortana. Once what was integrated deep into the Operating System is now a standalone app. The biggest problem with Cortana was usability, as it did not offer enough skills and results. Cortana is currently limited when it comes to features such as scheduling meetings, reminders, email integration, and so on. Open PowerShell with admin privileges. Execute the following command to check if Cortana is available on your computer.

If the command doesn’t show any error, and details package detail of the said app, then it’s confirmed that you do have Cortana available. The next command will remove Cortana from the system for all users.

Make sure to the exact package name instead of using Microsoft.549981C3F5F10 alone else it will not work. The complete package name is available in PackageFullName result from the first command. If you do not get any error, Cortana will be removed from the computer.

There is one strange thing about removal. Cortana App icon remains on the Taskbar even after uninstallation. You can hide it using the Taskbar menu. However, when you click on the Cortana icon on the Taskbar, nothing happens. I am assuming it because this approach of hiding and unhiding Cortana from Taskbar is merely a UI thing, and only Microsoft can tidy up this.

• Follow this link to open Cortana listing on Microsoft Store, and click on the Get button.
• The browser will then prompt you to open Microsoft Store. Click on the Open Microsoft Store button.
• When Microsoft Store opens, you should see Cortana available.

1. Open Settings.

How to prevent specific updates from installing on your device

If after reinstalling the update, you continue to experience problems on your computer, then it could actually be something wrong with the update. In this case, you can temporarily hide the problematic update to prevent Windows from trying to re-apply it to your computer.

In previous versions of Windows, we were able to stop updates from downloading and installing automatically using Windows Update, but since Microsoft made them mandatory on Windows 10, the feature has been removed. However, the company still provides a small tool to help you hide temporarily any update that may be causing issues.

To uninstall an update while preventing Windows from installing it again, do the following.

1. Uninstall the Windows Update with the problem with the instructions mentioned above.
2. Download the Show or hide updates troubleshooter from Microsoft support.
3. Double-click the .diagcab file to launch the tool.
4. Click Next.

Click Hide updates to continue.

The tool will check online and list the available updates currently not installed on your PC. Select the Windows Update that is causing problems, and click Next.

Click Close to complete the task.

After uninstalling and hiding the update that isn’t working correctly, your Windows 10 device won’t try to download and reinstall it again until there is a new update that replaces the old version.

Remember that you can always show the update again by following the same instructions mentioned above, but on step 5, you have to use the Show hidden updates option. Then you can go through the process of reinstalling the update on your Windows 10 PC.
