Hp laserjet professional p1102 mac os big sur

Question: Q: HP LaserJet P1102w and Big Sur

This is a Hewlett Packard question. While I await an answer in the HP user forum, I ask here, too, in the hope that someone here may know.

I have tried every recommendation in that thread except for downloading an old driver from Gutenprint.

Has anyone here succeeded in running the P1102w from Big Sur?

HP claims Big Sur support.

Apr 19, 2021 2:19 PM

The firmware update is too «dangerous» to open.

Apr 19, 2021 3:09 PM

And the volume does not support the driver.

Apr 19, 2021 3:12 PM

no double click — right click, than click «open»

Apr 21, 2021 12:42 AM

I get the same result: «This volume do not meet the requirements for this update.»

Well, I tried again—wth the HewlettPackardPrinterDrivers.dmg. This is the installer noted in the next post in this thread. I downloaded this dmg file again. And this time it worked. I double-clicked it twice and got the Installer. I ran the Installer. It appeared to function normally. After Installer was done, I opened the Printer & Scanner preference and tried to add the P1102w. But the P1102w is not in the list of printers available for adding. I restarted the Mac. P1102 is still not in the list of printers that I can add to my Preference. I have the the P11102 securely plugged into the Mini via USB.

Wow, this is a challenge.

Apr 21, 2021 2:36 PM

Eventually somehow—I do not now remember how—I got the Printers & Scanners Preference to add the P1102w. (I think I just played around with the Preference until one time it did what it was supposed to.) Now today I see that that Preference reports that my driver is no longer the generic driver that I have been using for many years. Now my driver is «HP LaserJet ProfessionalP1100w, 6.9.» This is the first time I have seen an HP driver in quite a while.

Next I would like to get the P1102w set up with wireless connection. Doing so will free up one USB port on the Mac. But my local network does not appear in the HP webpage for this printer.

Question: Q: There’s no solution for my HP1102W printer with Big Sur. Need help

iMac 5K 2017 updated with Big Sur, now, my HP LaserJet P1102W won’t print, HP has Easy Start but it failed to find driver during the installation. What should I do?

Do you use HP software to manage the printer?

Nov 17, 2020 1:29 PM

Yes, I was prompted to download HP Easy Smart, but it failed within while install as it can’t find driver for it.

Nov 17, 2020 1:32 PM

It says «We were not able to automatically locate any software options for this product, please go to HP website and search for product solutions here».

I went but nothing can be found there either.

Nov 17, 2020 1:39 PM

Your solution is kind of simple. First uninstall all of the HP software, put it in the Trash and empty Trash.

The re-add the printer per the directions in https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/add-a-printer-mh14004/mac and you should be back in business. The whole process should take less than 10 minutes.

Nov 17, 2020 2:21 PM

I’ve tried that already, same issue, finally, had the OS reinstalled as new, same issue, no driver, HP software can’t find driver either.

I did a Google search for HP LaserJet Pro P1102w and came up with

Clicked that link and instantly found a driver that was introduced on November 13th.

I used to work for HP years ago, one of the reasons I dropped using all of their devices is the poor support.

Nov 17, 2020 7:51 PM

What you’ve found is not a driver. It’s a program called HP Easy Start (modified exactly Novermber 13th) intended to install a driver but it fails with the message you can see in the picture two posts above.

I have exactly the same problem with exactly the same printer.

I even tried to download big pack of drivers for previous OS version 10.15 (this link https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Applications/ASU/HPPrinterDrivers5.1.dmg), but it can’t be installed on Big Sur.

Nov 19, 2020 12:36 PM

Lucky me, found a 6 years old Canon laser printer in my closet and it works simply by just plug and play. However, I did realized I have a Mac mini in the living room TV cabinet which still running Catalina, I was able to use this mini to get the printer working and setup to run network AirPrint without too much trouble. I am glad that I have two working printers now. Just wish HP didn’t pour a stung like this.

Nov 19, 2020 1:00 PM

To be clear: now I’m using my HP connected via WiFi with Big Sur with AirPrint protocol. But it’s much slower on printing than it was with HP drivers, and sometimes it produces strange results like grey background instead of white.

Big Sur update now P1102w doc wont print, printer not found wireless or air & utility not available

I upgraded my Macbook Pro to Big Sur — OS 11. Now the LaserJet Pro P1102w will not print via USB and is not found wirelessly. The printer is on my printer list and shows as connected only with the USB connected. The doc is sent to the printer and leaves the queue as if it was sent to the printer to be printed — and nothing. no green blinking light indicating receiving packets of information & no document being printed. HP Smart app on Desktop and iOS (iphone) don’t find the printer via USB or Wireless so cannot eprint. I cannot access the utility to get the MAC address to try to get to it via the web because the utility driver hasnt been updated for Big Sur. I have spent literally hours & tried every «fix» I could find.

Here is a detailed list of «fixes» that were tried and failed:

There was the malware message that it would damage my computer and I could no longer print.

I tried turning on the HP Office Jet 250 All In One — I was able to immediately scan and print wirelessly — no issues — so I know it is not my macbook pro or wireless connection. (FYI — after uninstalling HP I had to reinstall the printer drivers & software for the OfficeJet — no problems there).

  • Per the fix for the P1102w, I uninstalled the hp drivers & software and then used the HP Easy Start to reinstall it. I could only reinstall via USB as it could not find the printer otherwise. There was a message that there was no software and to complete installation online. It sent me to an HP website to register the product. it is already registered.
  • I reinstalled the printer and went to print a document. The document left the queue and never reached the printer. It did not print, nor did the light blink indicating that it was receiving information. I tried word, pdf, and just a screen print. all the same. I then reset the printing system on my mac system preferences printer & scanner box and reinstalled it. Still the same.
  • I tried to access the printer through the utility box on the printers & scanners through system preferences & the printer queue (goes to the same place — but tried both as a few discussions recommended this) and the utility box was missing. Also, under Options there is only the option to check Duplex and when I try to check the printer through Supply Levels there is a message that reads that no information is available.
  • I tried going directly to the HP LaserJet Professional utility on the mac in order to try to access the printer through the web and got the popup that the utility will damage my computer and cannot be opened.
  • I tried using both the generic printer software and the HP PCL4/5 listed in the driver list. Neither would work — it appears to print but nothing.
  • I tried uninstalling & reinstalling again. Same result — it appears to print via USB but does not and is not found wirelessly.
  • I tried downloading HP Smart — it could not find the printer either via wifi or the USB. There is a message that states there is no printer connected to the USB. This is odd since my mac can find the printer via the USB and the HP Easy Start finds it via USB (although it wont actually print and Easy Start states there is no software options that are automatically available)- so I know it isn’t the USB cord.
  • I tried manually downloading drivers 5.1 — the drivers would not open with an error message that my volume doesn’t support the drivers.
  • I tried my iphone to air print hoping to at least get that — airprint does not find the printer. I looked at the Airprint list from Apple. The HP LaserJet Pro P1102w is not listed as a supported device. I assume it is not and therefore airprint is not an option.
  • The blue wireless light blinks for a while and then shuts off. I have a Netgear Nighthawk AX8 (RAX80) router. (The HP Office Jet 250 shows as connected to the router. The LaserJet does not — so not a router issue.)
  • I cannot connect with WPS because my nighthawk router does not have the WPS button.
  • I tried downloading the HP Smart app on my iphone. The printer did not appear. The printer is listed as one of the supported devices on the HP list. I am directed to join the printer’s network, but it does not appear — even when the blue wireless light is blinking (however the HP Office Jet 250 shows in the wireless network list so it isnt an issue with my iphone).
  • I tried unplugging the USB from both the laptop & printer — then didn’t appear anywhere.
  • I tried restarting my modem, router, the printer and the laptop.
  • I tried getting support — my printer is out of warranty and I could not contact anyone. The virtual assistant is useless.

Now I am here — anyone have a fix that does not include one of the other fixes above that I found in the forums which were tried and failed?

As soon as you open HP Easy Start, click the top HP Easy Start menu and select Uninstall HP Software.
Read any warnings that display, and then click Continue . When prompted, type your administrator user name and password and follow the steps on screen.
Click Set Up New Device , and then follow the instructions to reinstall your printer with HP Easy Start and let me know if that may resolve the problem.

If that fails too, open HP Easy Start again, from the HP Easy Start menu select Preferences .
Click on HP Easy Start.log and the log folder will launch, please send me a Private Message with the log file attached.

Say thanks by clicking the Kudos thumb up in the post.

I tried uninstalling the HP software, but there’s no place where I can then install the drivers for the LaserJet 1300. Your message said to Private Message you, but I could find no way to do that.

I have been unable to install my LaserJet CM1415fnw after installing BigSur. Easy Setup shows the printer on the first screen but when you try to install the printer, it can’t find the printer.

Hi Shlomi. I also have issues getting my Color LaserJet CP1025 printing on my new MacBook Pro M1 with Big Sur 11.1. The setup is wireless via a Time Capsule the printer is connected to via USB (also tried direct USB connection with identical results). I could set up the printer, but the printing always aborted quickly with some «Filter» issue. Following your instructions in this threat worked so far and deinstalled all drives, but there seems to be no new driver for Easy Start to install, so now only the drivers are gone. Would you mind me sending you the log file, too? Guess I would need some additional activation to do so though. Thanks a lot in advance.
