HWMonitor is a straightforward and useful system utility that brings to OS X’s status bar all the information regarding your Mac’s hardware components’ temperatures, fan speeds, power consumption, and CPU voltage.

The package bundles the HWMonitor application and the HWSensors drivers pack that allows access to reading the information from the hardware sensors built-in with your Mac’s GPU and CPU.

Like many OS X system utilities of this kind, once the installation is completed, HWMonitor will integrate itself into the OS X status bar and, once you click it, a drop-down window will appear displaying system stats in six little panels, namely Temperatures, Drive Temperatures, Fans and Pumps, Voltages, Currents, and Power Consumption.

One big plus is the fact that HWMonitor enables you to conveniently add separate icons for each of the panels to the OS X status bar, for instant access to temperature readings that interest you most.

Real-time overview of all system sensor temperatures

In order to do that, select the Preferences menu from the HWMonitor’s drop-down window, click the Menubar tab, and move the sensors from the left category into the Menubar Items category on the right, so that they will permanently appear as separate entities on the OS X menu bar.

Also worth mentioning is the fact that HWMonitor enables you to view live changes in your Mac’s internal temperatures with the help of a useful and easy to read History Graph.

Another plus is the fact that you can choose from three distinct color schemes, two with black on white, and another with white text on a black background.

FakeSMC is an open source SMC device driver/emulator developed by netkas.

Question: Q: How to remove HWsensors in IMac

Hello I have an iMac and I have constant kernel panics every startup And what I have noticed in the report is that I have HWsensors in my System The operating system is legit and purchased from the Mac App Store And I have read that HWsensors Are not supposed to be in my system And are only there to make osx run on non-Apple devices So is this true. If yes can someone tell me how to remove the HWsensors

Hi, no, it’s not true, they are there in Macs to monitor temps, fan speeds, voltages & such. 🙂

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.

See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility.

Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?

How much RAM & free Disk space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.

Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.

In the Memory tab of Activity Monitor, are there a lot of Pageouts?

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode.

PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it’s trying to repair the Hard Drive

Reboot, test again.

If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.

Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.

Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible.

Correct, those are not the Apple provided ones.

Get Find Any File.

Hold Option or alt key when selecting Find to Find All.

Search All for Name contains. org.hwsensors for a start, trash them.
