По умолчанию, после установки виртуальной машины с ubuntu linux в системе виртуализации hyper-v, размер экрана скорее всего будет составлять 1024×768, что не совсем удобно (если конечно размер вашего экрана не 1024×768).

Для того, чтобы настроить свою виртуальную машину под размер своего монитора, нужно сделать следующее:
Будем считать, что виртуальная машина у вас уже есть.
Необходимо ее запустить, после чего необходимо запустить терминал и выполнить следующие этапы:

Нужно установить и активировать сервисы интеграции linux:

Так же необходимо отредактировать конфигурационный файл grub.
Откроем конфигурационный файл grum с помощью gedit, nano, vi, vim и тд (кому что удобно).

Находим строку начинающуюся с GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT и добавляем параметр video=hyperv_fb:[Необходимый размер экрана]
Я назначаю размер экрана 1920×1080. Таким образом строка должна выглядеть следующим образом:

После чего сохраняем файл, закрываем и выполняем в терминале команду для обновления grub:

И перезагружаем операционную систему

Затем необходимо убедиться, что не задействован трехмерный видеоадаптер RemoteFX.

Необходимо выключить виртуальную машину.
Перейти в раздел Параметры вашей виртуальной машины.
Для этого найдите вашу виртуальную машину и нажмите второй кнопкой мыши.

Нажимаем кнопку Удалить и ОК.

Далее желательно перезагрузить ваш PC и начать пользоваться вашей виртуальной машиной с необходимым расширением монитора.

How to run HyperV Ubuntu VM in full screen

When I installed Ubuntu Desktop in HyperV, the VM was running with a 1152×864 screen resolution and I could not get the machine to run full screen. The max resolution that hyperv_fb is supporting is 1920×1080.

Solution

The solution is to update the /etc/default/grub settings to allow higher resolutions.

Step 1 — Open terminal

Step 2 — Edit grub file

Type into the terminal the following command:

Edit mode

Press i to enter edit mode. This will be marked by the — INSERT — line at the bottom of the terminal.

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT

Search for GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT variable and add at the end video=hyperv_fb:1920×1080 .

Note: the max resolution that hyperv_fb is supporting is 1920×1080.

The full line will look line this:

Exit edit mode

Press Esc to exit the edit mode.

Save file

Type :wq followed be Enter to save the file.

Reload the settings

Run the following command:

Restart

Restart your VM, Ubuntu should run now in full screen mode.

How to adjust virtual machine display resolution to adapt to full screen

I’ve used VirtualBox before, and am new to Hyper-V.

On my Win10 desktop, I’ve installed a virtual machine of CentOS, and hope to make its display resolution fully utilize my hardware capacity (1920 x 1080).

For Hyper-V,
— in context of «Hyper-V Manager > host > Hyper-V Settings > Enhanced Session Mode», I’ve checked the box of «Use enhanced session mode»;
— in context of «Hyper-V Manager > vm > Settings > Integration Services», I’ve checked all the boxes, including «Guest services».

When I maximize the connection, the window maximizes to full screen but the guest operating system reminds at lower resolution as «1152 x 864 (4:3)», and that was the only option in the Linux context of «root user > Taskbar > Applications > System Tools > Settings > Devices > Displays».

I hope to make the guest Linux operating system adapt to full screen display resolution, and any pointers will be highly appreciated.

«1152 x 864 (4:3)» is the default screen resolution and the way that you have tried: «root user > Taskbar > Applications > System Tools > Settings > Devices > Displays» is for Ubuntu Hyper-V guests and is not suitable for CentOS and Red Hat VMs.

I followed the below link, and called command grubby —update-kernel=ALL —args=»video=hyperv_fb:1920×1080″ ; but it doesn’t work.

After reboot, the virtual machine will stuck forever at start with a black screen, and eventually I had to power cycle the virtual machine, and boot into rescue mode by choosing «CentOS Linux (0-rescure-xxx. ) 7 Core» from the boot menu.

I used command grabby again and changed display resolution back to the original default value (1152×864), and the virtual machine recovered to normal.

I’m wondering, did I miss anything in the steps here? Any hints will be highly appreciated.

After my research, the grubby command may only work for a few screen resolution. Based on your descriptions, your failure to use this command is related to the poor support from your driver for your graphics card. I suggest you can first try to open up a huge of resolutions for your graphics card. The article below is suitable for Centos 7:

If you still cannot maximize your resolution, I guess you may have to change your drive which can better support your graphics card. And you can ask your retailer for this information.

How can I increase the Hyper-V display resolution?

I just started experimenting with the Hyper-V of Windows 8 and installed Ubuntu on it. However when I launch it my screen resolution is small.

How can I scale Ubuntu to the resolution of my screen?

Install the Hyper-V Integration Services. This provides better display/input/network integration between the guest and host.

Here is how you can change the resolution of Ubuntu (Linux) running in Hyper-V:

• Install linux-image-extras (hyperv-drivers): sudo apt-get install linux-image-extra-virtual
• Open the Terminal and type: sudo gedit /etc/default/grub
• Find the line starting with GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT , and add video=hyperv_fb:1920×1080 (or your preferred resolution) in between the quotes (The maximum possible resolution is 1920×1080) like this: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=»quiet splash video=hyperv_fb:1920×1080″
• Save and Exit
• Run sudo update-grub
• Restart Hyper-V (restarting Ubuntu (Linux) might be enough)
