Incompatibilities with windows 10

Windows 10 Operating System version is incompatible with Startup repair.

I upgraded from Window 7 Home Premium 64 to Windows 10, install was fine no hiccups, desktop ran continuously for 48 hours with no problems. Desktop was shutdown normally. On restart Windows 10 enters a repair loop but system states it can not fix, recover or reset. SrtTrail.txt reads «The OS version is incompatible with Startup Repair».

Win 10 version is 10.0.10240.16384

Since none of the auto fix/repair tools work, do I need to do a clean install to repair?

Since this was a free upgrade, how do I get a ISO of 10 for re-installation or should I just go back to Win 7 64?

Welcome to Microsoft Community. Your interest in Windows 10 is much appreciated.

If you are unable to boot the computer to the start screen, follow the steps given below.

Method 1:

Disconnect all the devices connected to the computer except keyboard and mouse and check if you are able to boot to the start screen.

Method 2:

If the computer fails to boot, try performing safe mode and perform clean boot.

Try to boot into Safe Mode with Networking. Press and hold the shift key while clicking on Restart at the login Screen (Bottom right corner).

  1. Select Troubleshoot and click on Advanced Options .
  2. Select Startup Settings and click on Restart .
  3. After restarting, choose Enable Safe modewith networking .

If the issue does not persists in Safe Mode, then perform a Clean Boot to check if any third party application is causing the issue, as Clean Boot helps in eliminating software conflicts.

Step 2

Put the computer in Clean Boot and check if it helps.

By setting your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue.

Windows 10 incompatibility with peripherals

The upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7 is the worst decision I have made in a long time. It seems that nearly every peripheral that worked flawlessly on Windows 7 refuses to behave in Windows 10. My HP3055 LaserJet all-in-one will NOT scan or fax from the flat bed. The sheet feeder is the only option on the useless Microsoft generic Scan/Fax program. My Samsung Android phones won’t download their photos and movies to Windows 10. A Canon SX30 IS digital camera will not download its movies to Windows 10. My FujiFilm digital waterproof camera will not download to Windows 10. There are many more incompatibilities which would be too tedious to list.

Who designed this garbage operating system? It is ridiculous that Microsoft would launch a system which is NOT fully backward compatible to previous versions. Does anyone know if Microsoft plans on issuing drivers that actually work? Is it true what I heard about Microsoft being so demanding of its peripheral suppliers that the «partners» (LOL) are refusing to bend over to Microsoft and thus will not (or cannot without code access) issue revised drivers for their products? Is this going to remain a perennial problem with existing peripheral compatibility?

I have never been a fan of Apple, but after this experience I am seriously considering abandoning Microsoft and moving to Apple . or maybe even Linux.

Any suggestions about how to get the third party stuff to work? Most of the companies like Canon, Hewlett-Packard etc. Are saying that drivers for Windows 10 are «under review» and they’ll decide sometime what direction to take. To me. this means that they plan to do nothing . and we are stuck

Windows 10 incompatible with Nvidia GT710 graphics card

The GT 710 is compatible, but is has a separate Windows 10 driver. http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/103913

Try un-installing your Windows 7 driver and force the Appraiser to run or rerun / update the compatibilty appraiser results by going to the command prompt and entering:

Uninstall Video Card adapter.

Press Windows key + R

Type: devmgmt.msc

Expand: Display adapters

Right click listed Display Adapter

Click Uninstall

Start setup.

When setup completes successfully, install the latest driver updates for device through Windows Update or from the manufacturers website using compatibilut mode if necessary;

Note: Some older video cards might be incompatible with Windows. It likely means the graphics adapter has or is approaching End of Life status which limits the level of support the manufacturer can provide. The card will likely function just fine for general purposes, just don’t expect it to work well for scenarios such as playing games. There might even be glitches with certain casual games not working well at all.

If the Get Windows 10 app still prevents installation after uninstalling the card, try using the ISO media to upgrade:

If you installed a new video card without uninstalling the old video card, you might have reinstall the old card, then uninstall it properly through device manager.

Check the manufacturers website to find out the status of the video card. Check if there are at least Windows 8.1 drivers available. If there are no drivers available or manufacturer support options, you should purchase a new video card.

Windows 10 — incompatible hardware

When I tried to install Windows 10 on my Dell Inspiron One, I received the following message:

«This PC will have problens running Windows 10.

The device manufacturers haven’t made these devices compatible with Windows 10 so they will cause problems. Check with the manufacturers for support.

Broadcom Virtual Wireless Adapter.

You might not be able to connect to the Internet.»

Has anyone else had the same experience? Does anyone know whether the warning is to be heeded, bearing in mind that it says «. might not. » rather than «. will not. «?

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

To resolve this issue we need more information. Let us know the following:

Let us know the make and model of the Computer so that we can check for the latest drivers that are available on the manufacturer’s website.

Try installing all Optional and Pending Updates.

From Windows Update in Control Panel, click on Check for Updates. Make sure to install all Optional and other Pending Updates. Restart the computer after installation is completed.

You may try disabling the Adapter through Device Manager and try to upgrade. However, the operations are not guaranteed and as mentioned by the compatibility report you might also face issues with Network after the Upgrade as well.

Refer to this article on how to: Install and Update drivers in Windows 10:

See if you are now able to upgrade to Windows 10.

Incompatible applications

Windows Ten won’t update due to «incompatible applications». How do I find these? Error code is Oxc1900208

Moved from ( Internet Explorer / Internet Explorer 9 / Other/Unknown )

Before you can upgrade to the latest version of Windows, Setup performs a compatibility check to make sure you don’t have any apps installed that are known to be incompatible with that version of Windows.

If you are blocked by an app you don’t appear to have installed, it is likely that the compatibility checker is detecting a file associated with the app, rather than the app itself. You will need to delete the file it is detecting before you can install the upgrade. You can determine which file is triggering the block by examining a hidden log file. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Open File explorer and click the View tab . Make sure the check box for Hidden items is selected.
  2. Select This PC , and type *_APPRAISER_HumanReadable.xml in the search box and search the PC for file names that end with this term.
  3. Right click the file that ends with _APPRAISER_HumanReadable.xml and open the file with Notepad.
  4. Press CTRL + F and search for DT_ANY_FMC_BlockingApplication . Look for the value, it should be True.
  5. Press CTRL + F and search for LowerCaseLongPathUnexpanded . The value contains the file path of the program that should be removed or transferred to another drive. (It should be located approximately 28 lines under the DT_ANY_FMC_BlockingApplication ).
  6. Make note of the file path listed in the value for LowerCaseLongPathUnexpanded. You can select the file path and copy it to the Notepad by pressing CTRL + C.
  7. Navigate to the file path’s location in File Explorer. (Click in File Explorer’s address bar and press CTRL + V to paste the file path you copied earlier.)
  8. Once you’ve located the blocking .exe file, transfer the file to another drive or Delete the file.

You may also download run this batch file to automatically perform the steps above: https://aka.ms/AppRPS (You should be prompted to download a zip file named AppRPS.zip)

Once the blocking file is moved or deleted, try installing the Windows 10 upgrade again, or return to the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant and select the Refresh button.
