This page describes how to enable support for Intel 802.11n devices on Debian systems.
The iwlwifi Linux kernel driver supports several Intel wireless LAN adapters:

Add a «non-free» component to the apt sources.
Update the list of available packages and install the firmware-iwlwifi package:
As the iwlwifi module is automatically loaded for supported devices, reinsert this module to access installed firmware:

Troubleshooting
Slow WiFi problems when using Bluetooth
Some devices like the 6235 do include a Bluetooth device in the same card, which may lead into radio conflict. Newer devices (7200 and up) try to solve them intelligently, but it is not the case of older ones.
If your WiFi is slow when using Bluetooth, try adding the following to /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf and reboot:

Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 problem on Ubuntu 12.04
I recently got myself a new HP Pavilion dm4-2102eo with a built-in Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 WiFi adapter. After messing a bit around with the partitions on the hard drive, I finally got to install the latest version of Ubuntu (12.04), now running a dualboot setup with the pre-installed Windows 7 (using GRUB).
So far everything has been running smoothly. Ubuntu quickly found drivers for almost all of my computer’s hardware. That included drivers for the Wireless-N 1030 card — or so I thought!
After having installed Ubuntu, I connected to my home WLAN (which was visible along with a range of other wireless networks in my neighborhood). I entered my WPA password and connected successfully. I opened up Firefox, typed in gmail.com, hit Enter and. Nothing happened! It kept on loading until it finally gave up and said that the connection could not be established.
I am now back on my Windows partition where the Internet works flawlessly. So does it on my iPhone, my mother’s iPad and my brother’s MBP. Since a lot of different devices are able to log onto our wireless network, the problem must lie within the Ubuntu installation.
I have taken screenshots of the connection settings (see here) and of the output of running the command ifconfig in Terminal (see here).
I am confident with Terminal and know how to do some basic operations but I have no clue of where to start here. I have been searching for solutions online but it seems that most people have different setups and need different solutions. I hope that you guys will be able to help me out.

I’m having problems with my Intel Centrino N 1030 only using Linux Mint. Everything works perfectly on Windows and the speed reaches to 50Mb, but on Linux it goes to 35
40Mb. It’s a little frustrating because I increased the internet speed recently and I only use Linux.
Already tested all frequencies and channels in router at no speed improvement.
What should I do?
On Windows.
On Linux.

I typed the command and got this:
I saw the limited Bit Rate and remembered that one of the first things I installed on my computer was TLP because it heats up a lot. I have not properly configured the options and he was limiting the wireless network.
I turned off the TLP and now got this:
But the speed test did not improve. Then I typed the «echo» command you has suggested, I restarted my computer and:
Solved! Now I need to find a good channel because the 2.4GHz frequency around is quite loaded.

Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 on Linux
This wireless card came in my new Dell Inspiron 14z laptop, but I had to make a few changes for it to work correctly under Linux. I got this information from other posts scattered across the Internet, but I thought I would write them up here to save people some trouble. These changes were necessary under Linux 3.0.0-14-generic; they may not be required on newer versions. These fixes may be applicable to other wireless devices that use the iwlagn driver.
With power management and wireless-N enabled on my card, I get very poor connectivity. The device connects to the network, but rarely exceeds a download rate of over 1 kB/s.
First, power management needs to be disabled. You can check if power management is currently enabled by running iwconfig wlan0 from a terminal. This should output something like this:
To turn power management off manually, do
sudo iwconfig wlan0 power off
and type in your password. You can permanently disable power management by editing the file
/usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/wireless
On line 39, change “power on” to “power off”. You will need root access to edit this file. (Use sudo.) Credit to this poster for discovering this fix!
Next, wireless-N needs to be disabled. It seems as though Intel and/or the kernel developers are still working on wireless-N support for this device. If you run dmesg | grep iwlagn to search the kernel’s log for messages from the card’s driver, you may see the message iwlagn: Microcode SW error detected. , followed by several lines of debug data.
Disabling wireless-N will prevent this error from occurring. This change is not required if you know you will only be using wireless access points that do not support wireless-N. (For example if your access point says wireless-G somewhere on it.)
Type in these commands at a terminal:
sudo rmmod iwlagn
sudo modprobe iwlagn 11n_disable=1
This unloads the iwlagn kernel module, then re-enables it without wireless-N. If the 11n_disable option is not recognized, try 11n_disable50 instead. To permanently disable wireless-N, create a file /etc/modprobe.d/iwlagn.conf containing a single line:
options iwlagn 11n_disable=1
You will need to restart your computer or perform the temporary fix (using the rmmod and modprobe commands) for this change to take effect.

my wifi drops after some time and requires reboot to work again ( Centrino Wireless-N 1030 [Rainbow Peak])
similar question was posted by me for 14.04

have edited the /etc/modpobe.d/iwlwifi.conf to add the line
have checked /lib/firmware for the file iwlwifi-6000g2b-6
dmesg | grep iwl gives

power management is disabled
sudo iwlist scan | egrep -i ‘ssid|cipher’ gives (refer)
sudo service network-manager restart doesnt work
shows this after I try reconnecting
requires reboot required after drop
also tried the following
have replaced the adapters name . since it is RTL8111/8168/8411 and adding «/» with conf file cretes problems I chose a name with out «/»
wifi drops after few hours again
I have posted the output while wifi was connected have edited this question multiple times to add all the relevant things i did but issue still persists
my kernel version is 4.15.0-24-generic

16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP doesn’t solve the issue
edit 3 : have set the region to IN issue persistent
edit 4 : installed wicd-client from help.ubuntu.com/community/WICD . disconnection continues and so switched back to network manager again issue is persistent
edit 5 : took a backup and installed Windows 7 for one day , wifi worked fine implying hardware is working fine
edit6 : contacted dell support in case to be sure to know if the card was ok .they ran diagnostic and assured hard ware is working fine
edit 7 : after all the efforts , I realized that there is something missing with respect to the linux kernel itself, and so i intalled r8168-dkms via synaptic packet manager and the wifi is up since 235 minutes but again the next day drop after 30 minutes of use
edit 8 : of all the above things that I have tried edit : 7 is the most stable, how ever I am not sure of the solution as disconnection persists
edit 9 : blacklisted r8169 by following in /etc/modprobe.d/r8168-dkms.conf
by uncommenting as advised to

I did as advised, though for 18.04 but since the kernel version was same , I gave a try , didnt work !

Further hardware testing
Your 1-day test in Win7 may be inconclusive. The Windows 7 driver may «drive» the wireless card differently than the Linux driver. If the Windows driver doesn’t stress the wireless card in the same way, you may not see the wireless card drop off as quickly. If testing the card from Windows, I’d running it a couple days. A better test would be using an older version of Ubuntu that you have used in the past without trouble.
Don’t trust the Dell diagnostic either. If their diagnostic passed, that just means that the card was functioning when they ran the diagnostic. If an electrical component on the card is malfunctioning, it may work fine after a reboot, like my friend’s did, but only for a time. I had a friend that was experiencing similar issues on a Windows laptop (and using an Ubuntu LiveUSB on the same machine). My friend’s card would pass diagnostic tests too because they could only be run after a reboot when the card was working. I replaced my friend’s wireless card, and all of his problems went away.
From what I can tell online, it looks like your wireless card provides WiFi and Bluetooth. If the Bluetooth also stops working at the same time as the WiFi, it’s more than likely that your wireless card is faulty.
Here are some things you can try for the purpose of troubleshooting:
Ignore the options you’ve already tried. I’ve only included them for the sake of anyone else who might stumble upon this post looking for answers.
- Download an old version of Ubuntu that you know the WiFi had no issues with (12.04?) and see if your WiFi drops while running the LiveOS. If it does, your wireless card is most likely faulty and needs to be replaced.
- Clone your existing system. Then blow everything away with a Windows install and see if you experience the same issues in Windows. If you do, it’s time to replace the internal WiFi card. Restore the cloned image.
- If you have a spare hard drive lying around, pull the one in your computer, and install the spare. Then install Windows and see if issue persists. If it does, it’s time to replace the internal WiFi card.
- Don’t test anything. Just open your computer and yank the wireless card. Buy a replacement with the same model number. They’re usually pretty cheap. I paid less than $10 (in China) for my friend’s replacement. Drop it in. If the problem goes away, then the old card was obviously faulty. If it persists, then you’re out the price of the card.
- Finally, whether the internal card is faulty or it’s a hardware incompatibility problem, you should be able to buy a USB WiFi dongle and use that. Most are compatible with Linux these days. Unfortunately, most low-profile USB WiFi dongles have weaker reception than your internal card and won’t come with Bluetooth which your internal card may or may not provide.
