Intel e6600 windows 10
Anyone know if I can actually run Windows 10 without problems? I heard about issues with the G3258, so I want to make sure my own Pentium is safe before taking the plunge.

sorry to say but direct x 12 wont do much for a cpu like that
It’ll be sure as hell better than D3D11 is on it. Seeing just how much Mantle did for me, It’s safe to say that D3D12 might be a lot bigger for me than you think.
Not to mention, I genuinely just want to start using Windows 10. I want to know if the upgrade’s safe since I know a lot of problems were reported a few months ago with the G3258, back when I was following the progress of Win10.
it will run win10, but it will not have any appropriate drivers for the mobo (chipset, lan usb ect..)
with older hardware stay on win 7-8
the core2 is not an pentium cpu, its an intel cpu thats ancient, about 8 years
g3258 can run windows 10 fine if the gpu is newer, gt/x 9xx or amd r9 or later
putting a dx12 gpu with that cpu is a mistake
save up for a new cpu/board/ram ect.. then get a dx12 gpu

I already have my Sapphire R9 280 3GB, which fully supports DX12/Vulkan; it was at a pretty good price so when buying my graphics card to finally have a decent 7th gen gaming device, I paid $20 extra for something I could take into a better (Xeon e3 1231 v3) rig.
Also, I’m not talking about a Core 2 Duo E6600, I’m talking about the Pentium Dual-Core E6600 at 3.06 GHz.
My current plan is to simply play 7th gen and 7th/8th crossgen games until I have enough money to buy my full rig, a Xeon E3 1231 v3 on a Gigabyte H97 motherboard and Bitfenix Shinobi case.
If you could help though, I’m not quite sure what a good CPU cooler would be. I’m not overclocking with a Xeon, obviously, but I want to avoid the stock Intel cooler so I can play games and do intensive tasks without making my computer sound like a laundromat.

the mobo will not have good drivers for windows 10
its still socket 775
on a $1000 build you can do alot better
go wtih a skylake ddr4 build
the e3-1231 is like a locked i7 with the igp disabled, dont need a z97 board for it
a single 8g kit is half the bandwidth of a 2x4g kit
on a 60hz monitor, under 5ms will not make any noticable difference
its a 120-144hz where you need a 2ms or lower responce time
this is $200 less with 6600k, cfx capable mobo, ssd, os and monitor ect..
Win 10 says CPU Not supported — Intel Core2 Duo E6600 — Why?
I have two machines awaiting a Win 10 upgrade but today I found that one of them will not be upgraded because the CPU is not supported. Yet the other one will be upgraded.
Both are Core2 Duo machines on ASUS P5N32 identical motherboards. One is a model E6600 running at 2.4GHz (not supported) and the other is an E6850 running at 3GHz. Why is one acceptable and the other is not? Both machines have 4GB of RAM.
In researching this I found there might be some BIOS parameter changes required to enable certain CPU features — which I did but which had no effect on the Get Windows 10 app declaring the CPU is not supported. I ran the appraiser app which was supposed to re-evaluate my system but even after several reboots the Get Windows 10 app still reports the CPU is not supported but shows a last run date of 7/31/2015 — as though the fact that I’ve scheduled the appraiser at least 3 times today to run after BIOS changes and reboots — but the last run date/time never changes.
Is there some flag or file set somewhere I need to clear to have the Get Windows 10 app actually re-evaluate so I know if I fixed anything?

Well I tried that and got a more detailed answer saying that it was because my processor di not have NX capability — which it actually does. And I found out that NX capability is also called the Execute Disable Bit — which I confirmed is turned on in my BIOS as is the data execute prevention capability in the windows installation fo the Win 7 Pro I’m running — but still it won’t install.
So is it possible that Microsoft is incorrectly detecting the presence of the NX capability on this CPU?

Well I guess Magic Happens! About 4 or 5 days ago I did my daily check to see if I was still getting the message about the CPU not being supported — and lo and behold it now said my installation was ready to start. So I said yes — do it now! It proceeded to run without any difficulty and complete the install.
I did have to do the usual several reboots to get some basic software like the nVidia drivers back up and running, which I had to do on my first system that got upgraded — and unlike the upgrade to my more modern Win 8.1 system, which put everything back on that triple monitor system almost exactly like it was before the upgrade, I did have to do some icon rearrangement to get my double monitor system on the 2nd box back to where it was, including respecifying the original screen resolutions on the two monitors.
This system, the one that had the recognition problem, has been virtually flawless since then with some improvement in network behavior — shared disk spaces showing up and being publicized and the Serviio media server working better since the upgrade. Also — playing HD video natively on the box hasn’t shown the same glitchy and freeze-up problems I’ve seen on the original triple monitor Win8.1 to Win 10 upgrade on the other box.
So whatever the detection problem was, Microsoft fixed it and my installation completed without incident.

Летом 2019 года я делился с вами грустной историей о том, как мой знакомый Гриша потерял кучу денег, купив старые комплектующие на AliExpress. История вышла поучительная, но типичная, ведь любой школьник знает, что покупать китайские Ксеоны (Xeon), собранные на помойке блоки питания и SSD от дядюшки Ляо – это просто глупо. Увы, даже на нашем форуме есть множество ценителей китайщины. Я не планирую их осуждать, ведь покупка вторички на AliExpress – это крайне выгодно, особенно если вам нужно собрать не один, а десяток компьютеров. Главное здесь не жадничать, но в данный момент это не имеет отношения к теме моей статьи, поэтому вернёмся в наше время.

Григорий упёртый малый. Он мало знаком с тонкостями электроники, но всегда звонит, если ему что-то неясно. Вы думали, что после того случая паренёк впал в хандру и спустил последние деньги на ветер? Совсем нет, хотя в самом начале казалось, что да. В декабре 2019 года он попросил меня дать ему пару советов по железу. Хотя мы просто давно не виделись и ему явно было скучно. Стоит отметить, что я ему уже давно рассказывал о криптовалютах. Спустя какое-то время мы разговорились, и я упомянул, что аналитики уверяют, что Биткоин будет расти. Не стану вдаваться в скучные подробности. Отмечу, что после нашего разговора Гриша эту тему больше не поднимал, а неделю назад прислал мне в подарок дорогой кубик Рубика Xiaomi и пару лампочек для умного дома. По его словам, это была маленькая благодарность за наставления, ведь он купил целых два Биткоина.
Суть такова, что на момент нашего разговора Биткоин стоил около 7 000 долларов, а в феврале поднялся до 10 000. Само собой, когда криптовалюта снова упала весной, Гриша расстроился, но, по его словам, отказался продавать даже её часть. Миллионером он пока не стал, но после того, как с лета Биткоин снова вырос, Гриша выглядит явно счастливее. Совсем недавно он продал часть Биткоина, и на вырученные деньги открыл офис. Компьютеры на этот раз были куплены на отечественном рынке, но снова бывшие в употреблении. Ничем интересным покупка не запомнилась. Все системники были одинаковые и продавались какой-то конторой, которая разорилась во время коронавируса. Давайте перечислим комплектацию:
- Процессор: Core 2 Duo E8400
- Материнская плата: Asus на 775 сокете.
- Память: 4 Гб
- Накопитель: отсутствовал
- Блок питания: встроенный в системник китайский подвал с непроизносимым названием
- Монитор: 19-дюймовый от Samsung с разрешением 4:3

Первым делом были куплены SSD. Я выбрал самый простой вариант –Kingston A400 на 120 Гб, поскольку кроме как для работы в браузере, система больше ни для чего использоваться не будет. Поскольку я давно отказался от Windows 7 на домашнем компьютере, у меня на флешке только «Десятка». Собственно говоря, статья именно об этом. ОС установилась бодро, компьютер прекрасно справлялся со своими задачами до тех пор, пока мы не запустили автоматическое обновление драйверов. После этого старичок стал жутко медленным. Перезагрузка длилась так, будто здесь ни твердотельный накопитель, а обычный жёсткий диск. Гриша заявил, что для него это некритично, но тут выяснилось, что две сервисные программы, без которых работа просто встанет, отказываются устанавливаться на Windows 10.
Пришлось сесть в машину и ехать ко мне домой за старым диском, на котором была записана Windows 7. Одновременно с этим было нужно найти старый DVD-привод, который я давно закинул в шкаф. И это я не говорю о шлейфе, который также пришлось поискать. Что же, с «Семёркой» дела пошли куда лучше. После установки системы, я использовал старый добрый DriverPack Solution и сразу же перешёл к сервисным программам Гриши. Пока драйвера ставились на первом компьютере, флешка работала на другом, и дальше в таком же порядке. Можно было сделать копию, но я никуда не спешил, ведь весь день меня кормили вкусной пиццей с чаем и тортиком. Хотя, если честно, то я вспомнил о такой возможности уже на месте, да и установка была быстрой.

Последние три года я не имел возможности долго поработать на Windows 7. Всё ограничивалось запуском браузера, если я был на рабочем месте с «Семёркой». А здесь несколько часов настройки. Мой домашний компьютер в разы быстрее. Там супербыстрый накопитель PCI-E 3.0 на системном диске, неплохой процессор Core i7-7700K и 16 Гб оперативной памяти. Я ожидал, что старые Core 2 Duo E8400 начнёт ужасно тормозить даже в браузере, а в специализированном ПО от кривых местных программистов вообще будет твориться кошмар (что собственно и было на «Десятке»). На моё удивление, всё летало. Ни намёка на подвисания или тормоза. Последним на Windows 7 было решено перевести первый компьютер, на который я до этого «залил» «Десятку».
Разница просто огромна. Гриша остался равнодушен к таким подробностям, ведь ему было абсолютно всё равно, за сколько секунд запускается ОС, грузится Фотошоп и переключаются страницы браузера. Программы, купленные у местных дилеров, работали, а больше ему и не нужно. Но суть в том, что Microsoft настойчиво загоняет пользователей на Windows 10. Для дома такой подход вполне оправдан, ведь на новом железе «Десятка» работает отлично. Но что делать мелкому бизнесу, для которого покупка новых компьютеров из-за коронавируса оказалась неподъёмным бременем? Почему они должны получить потери в производительности системы даже несмотря на то, что купили ОС легально? Эти и многие другие вопросы так и останутся без ответа.
Кстати, для особо любопытных сообщаю, что все 5 системных блоков без SSD обошлись нам в 750 долларов, мониторы подарили бесплатно. Клавиатуры, мышки и наушники мы взяли самые простые, но качественные. Прибавьте сюда ещё 5 накопителей Kingston. После всех подсчётов вышло около 1 100 долларов. Несложно подсчитать, что новые системные блоки обошлись бы нам в 2-3 раза дороже. Кроме всего прочего нужно было бы решать проблему с лицензией, ведь Гриша уже сталкивался со штрафом за пиратскую ОС и не хотел повторения ситуации в будущем, а диски с легальной Windows 7 я достал у знакомого за коробочку конфет для его жены. А главное, всё это удалось провернуть благодаря высокому курсу Биткоина.
