Microsoft Internet Explorer Mobile (ранее Pocket Internet Explorer) – мобильный веб-браузер от компании Microsoft, работающий на движке Trident. Является браузером по умолчанию в мобильных операционных системах Windows Phone и Windows CE.

Версия Internet Explorer Mobile базируется на настольной версии Internet Explorer. Предыдущая версия называлась Pocket Internet Explorer и поставлялась вместе с Windows Mobile, однако, не базировалась на настольной версии IE.

Последняя версия Internet Explorer Mobile 11 базируется на настольной версии Internet Explorer 11 и поставляется с Windows Phone 8.1.

Pocket Internet Explorer

Pocket Internet Explorer впервые был представлен в Windows CE 1.0, выпущенный в ноябре 1996 года. Код был написан с нуля. PIE 1.1 был выпущен позже.

В Pocket Internet Explorer 2.0, выпущенный в сентябре 1997 года с Windows CE 2.0, были добавлены:

• автономный просмотр,
• изменения размера изображения в соответствии с экраном,
• улучшилась поддержка HTML.

PIE 3.0, выпущенный в июле 1998 года с Windows CE 2.10, добавлена поддержка JScript и различных защищенных протоколов.

Pocket Internet Explorer 4 был первым с поддержкой ActiveX, CSS, VBScript, а также с дальнейшим расширением поддержки для HTTPS и расширением функции HTML. Версия PIE Pocket PC 2002 принесла ограниченную поддержку DHTML и XML, а также возможность просматривать WAP-сайты — особенность , которой нет в Internet Explorer для ПК, Internet Explorer 6.0 добавлена поддержка IFrames. Веб-браузер стал поддерживать FTP , XSLT.

Internet Explorer Mobile

Internet Explorer Mobile 6 был выпущен как часть Windows Mobile 6.5, и некоторые производители также установили его на Mobile 6 Standard устройств Windows. Новые функции включают в себя расширение JavaScript и поддержку AJAX (Jscript v5.7 из Internet Explorer 8), а так же поддержку Adobe Flash Lite 3.1. 15 февраля 2010 Microsoft представила Internet Explorer Mobile. Появилась поддержка мультитач жестов, вкладки, новый пользовательский интерфейс, плавное масштабирование, а также гибридный движок rendering из Internet Explorer 7 и Internet Explorer 8 для настольных версий.

В феврале 2011 года Microsoft представила крупное обновление для Internet Explorer Mobile на основе движка визуализации в Internet Explorer 9. Браузер с возможностью полнотекстового аппаратного ускорения. В изменение этой версии входит перемещение адресной строки в нижнюю части экрана, и альбомная ориентация. [Источник 2]

В июне 2012 года IE10 Mobile стал поддерживать антифишинговые функции, таким как фильтр SmartScreen для блокирования опасных веб-сайтов и вредоносных программ. С помощью общего ядра между IE10 Desktop и IE10 Mobile, Internet Explorer 10 Mobile стал поддерживать более широкий спектр возможностей HTML5.

15 июля 2014 года Microsoft выпустила Internet Explorer Mobile 11. Эта версия стала еще ближе к настольным (скриншот версии на рисунке 1).

Новые функции браузера включили в себя:

• поддержка WebGL;
• нормальное отображение;
• Режим просмотра InPrivate;
• Режим чтения;

Позже, Microsoft сделал несколько изменений в Internet Explorer Mobile, чтобы сделать браузер более совместимым с сайтами, предназначенными для мобильных устройств iOS и Android. Конкуренты

На момент, когда данный браузер существовал, на рынке было множество браузеров, включенных в состав других операционных систем. К ним можно отнести следующие:

• Chrome в операционной системе Android
• Safari в операционной системе iOS
• Системный браузер операционной системы Symbian OS.

Все эти браузеры развивались примерно с одинаковым темпом, и обладали похожими функциями и поддерживаемыми технологиями.

Маскировка Microsoft Internet Explorer Mobile

4 августа 2014 энтузиастами была найдена интересная особенность, касающаяся мобильной операционной системы Windows Phone 8.1 — при обращении к сайтам Internet Explorer маскируется под браузер Safari.

Широкая распространенность iPhone и мобильной операционной системы iOS привела к тому, что многие сайты в сети Интернет адаптируются для Safari. Невысокая популярность Windows Phone в свою очередь абсолютно никак не влияет на адаптацию сайтов для смартфонов с операционной системой от Microsoft. В результате, многие сайты отображаются в мобильной версии Internet Explorer неверно или в неадаптированной для экрана смартфона версии. Страдают от этого непосредственно сами пользователи. Чтобы как-то переломить ситуацию и улучшить качество Internet Explorer Mobile в Microsoft решили заменить идентификатор браузера. Таким образом, заходя на какой-либо сайт, браузер Windows Phone 8.1 «представляется» как Safari в iOS. В качестве примера достаточно взглянуть на Twitter и сравнить ту страницу, которую демонстрирует сервис микроблогов до и после использования идентификатора Safari. [Источник 4]

Internet Explorer 10 for mobile isn’t just another browser that can open web pages. It is better, simpler, cleaner and has many new interesting features when compared to the previous versions. Most importantly, it shares the core engine with its desktop cousin, Internet Explorer for Windows 8. And that means, support for HTML 5 is one among many other good things.

However, we aren’t in the browser comparison mood today. We will rather take a look at what it offers to its users. Let us begin.

Note: The Windows Phone 8 device used for this post is Nokia Lumia 920. The steps are same for all WP8 phones.

Getting Started

Launching Internet Explorer is as simple as a tap on its tile on the Start Screen. When it is up, you will find the address bar at the bottom of the panel. Type the address you want to visit while also being suggested for matches as you type.

The address bar has three sections. The first button that represents refresh by default is actually customizable. Next, is the actual address bar and then the more options button (3 dots …).

Under the More Button

At any time, during your navigation if you launch the more menu you will have options as shown in the image below.

As is clear from the first entry – tabs – it takes you to the list of open web pages at the moment. You can select the one you wish to bring to the foreground or add a new tab by tapping on the + icon at the bottom.

Recent shows you a summary or brief history of latest web pages that you have visited. It is a quick way to get back to something you just lost. Also, you can choose to remove entries from the list. It’s simple.

Managing Favorites

It is natural to want to have our favorite websites pinned somewhere to quick access. So, when you are on a favorite page, tap to more option and hit on add to favorites. Then, you can save the details.

When you want to open a favorite website, navigate to more -> favorites. Tap on an entry to open it. If you want to edit any favorite, hold the entry and you will see edit and delete options.

Well, if there is something that you need every now and then, you can pin such a favorite to the Start Screen. Pin to start is the option under more menu. For instance, you might want to pin us, like I did on mine.

Sharing Options

When you want to share some content/web page you can simply navigate to more -> share page. The various channels to do so are listed below.

You can also share a link from a web page by holding it for some time. The options will show immediately.

Apart from that you may copy the link to use somewhere else or open it on a new tab. Same concept applies to pictures.

Settings

This is the most important part as this is where you can configure a few things. You can choose between mobile version and desktop version of web pages to be displayed. Then, you can customize the address bar button- choose among favorites, stop/refresh and tabs.

Advanced settings allow you to manage cookies, tabs and links behavior, Bing suggestions and default search provider.
