IORegistryExplorer for Mac is a lightweight system utility that allows macOS users to browse their IO registry utilizing streamlined GUI interface. Since Mac has a dynamic I/O registry database that keeps all the information about currently detected hardware and services in real time, Mac users don’t have any system utility to properly track the changes in that database. It changes that and provides a simple way to explore the entirety of that database whenever you want.

In addition of connecting to the I/O database and providing several ways of formatting the database entries, It also has a built-in search function, enabling you to easily search for desired names, classes, bundle identifiers, property keys and values, states, inheritance values and more. In addition to viewing the entire database, you can also search in individual planes.

No matter if you are novice or seasoned professional, It provides valuable service by connecting to I/O Registry database using easy to use visual layout and straightforward browsing capabilities. Advanced users can also take advantage of features such as bookmark and search tool. IORegistryExplorer for macOS updates the registry in real time, but the refresh period can be manually set to a specific interval of your choosing.

Installation and Use

IORegistryExplorer is an incredibly small app that comes in just a little bit over 200 KB in size. Like any other Mac app, you can easily install it by simply dragging and dropping its installation package into your Application folder.

Once active, IO RegistryExplorer present to you very simple and easy to the user interface that with service plane selector and search tool on top, and large registry browser below. Available planes (IOService, CoreCaptureIO80211Plane, IOACPIPlane, IODeviceTree, IOFireWire, IOPower, or IOUSB) can also be selected using hotkeys.

The registry browser is separated into two windows — one for browsing directories, and another one for listing properties, types and values (each of them can be sorted by value or letter). The Preferences window features three tabs – View (for optimizing interface type), Find (for picking which objects types should be included in the search) and Update (for setting up database update interfoveal – automatic or timed).

Congrats on being my first review ever on the app store!

This product does not properly handle DNS resolution. It tampers with it. SRV lookups don’t work, CNAME lookups are changed to A records. DNS responses come from incorrect addresses, etc. Stay away and get a product that actually works. F5 / Palo Alto / Cisco / Fortinet / Pulse Secure / OpenVPN / ANYTHING ELSE. This product is not worth the headache.

Update: the latest update (1.2.0) fixes the dns resolution issues, but simulatenously breaks all tcp connections so it is now completely unusable. Does Citrix test this client at all? It seems the answer is no.

Update: This app is so full of bugs, that at this point they don’t even detail what they fix in each release outside of ‘bug fixes’. We’ve given up on this vpn product and have moved on.

Causing Major Issues. Prompts to Upgrade when you’re using a different Citrix Program

I received prompts to update my “Citrix”…come to find out it was for the SSO and Workspace. and I do not even have this app installed. I currently use the Citrix Receiver and for a totally different purpose than the reviews below. It is a necessary and crucial part of my work day.

This “Update” caused major issues on my Mac…and after uninstalling it and then reinstalling my Citrix Receiver…it is now preventing me from printing from within my Citrix Receiver program. Would love to know how to block this notification so I do not receive it again, nor make this mistake again….and to prevent others from making a similar error.

Lastly, even with it uninstalled now… I am currently still receiving the same prompts to Update multiple times a day. The only choices are to click “Remind me later” or “Install”…. there is no “Ignore» or “Do Not Remind Me Again” or “Stop the Madness” options. So, I click on the red X to remove it from my screen and it continues to come back over and over.

Upgrade does not work in MAC environment

Latest upgrade for MAC IOS and Citrix are not compatiable. I work in healthcare and we use Citrix to work remotely. Have never had an issue in 6 years until now. I am no longer able to work remoitely using Citrix on my MAC laptop and MAC desktop. Heard other doctors report they regret upgrading because we lost our ability to connect. Being asked to launch download files that open up random notes application. Our IT department said they cannot do anything about this because latest MAC and CITRIX are no longer compatiable. UGH.

When you select a particular registry, IORegistryExplorer allows you to browse its content, view details about the source class and bundle, and so on. The app enables you to bookmark any registry, and you get to see the entire file path.

By default, IORegistryExplorer automatically updates the I/O Registry database in real time, but you can also opt for a timed refresh: via the Preferences window you get to set the update interval.

On the other hand, you can also manually trigger the update, either by going through the Registry menu, or by using the Command + U hotkey. In addition, you can choose to have the terminated objects completely removed.
