Hi «pedrorp1», & Anyone Else,
Search for «Apple» or «ipod» in the «Synaptic Package Manager (SPM)», and install anything in that.
This PPA provides the newest packages — you can try installing this.
https://launchpad.net/
To install this using the PPA method, open a console terminal, type in, or copy & paste, each line below one by one: Click «Select All» above command, right click the highlighted command, select Copy (or Ctrl+Insert), click in the console terminal window, and right click paste (or Shift+Insert), repeat for each command.

You might want to simulate the install first to check for problems.

@67GTA: I think that’s for the source code. Compiling is definitely not my strong suit.

@67GTA: Do you personally know whether or not the new iPod Classic and Nano is supported in Sudux? If they are supported, then I will probably attempt installing on my desktop.
Let me tell you the latest disappointment with my 80GB Classic. I had been using Amarok to play music on both my desktop and laptop. For some reason, that just quit working. The last time (just a couple of days ago) I played some music, I closed my iPod the proper way, but when the screen came back to life, there was no music, videos or podcasts showing. Now, keep in mind, all I did was play some music.
The fix was simple, though. All I had to do was spend about an hour in XP restoring the iPod and doing a resync. Apple should be ashamed of themselves for their poor business decision. Not only that, IMHO, it was an immoral decision to change their database handling. After all, they support an inferior OS; they should support Linux, too.

I’m a very happy camper. A couple of days ago, I enabled the SID repositories in my favorite Linux distro, and installed some packages that got my iPod Classic 80GB working in Linux. I can manipulate media just fine without having to boot into that other OS and without iTunes.
Many thanks go out to the fine people at «gtkpod», who have worked so hard coming up with a fix for Apple’s outrageous behavior.
