Question: Q: Pages for El Capitan

Ive just reformatted a 2010 MacBook Pro so that my grandchildren can use it for their studies and its running very well. They are use to using Pages but I cannot download a version to run with El Capitan. I have tried the advice to install the trial version, but it will not update and all I get is the spinning wheel of death. Is there any way to be able to do this please?

No, there are old versions available on the app store. Getting at them is the hard part.

If you click «get» for the latest version of Pages on an ElCapitan machine, it’ll say, «Sorry, not supported» But if you use a more recent Mac to «get» pages, it becomes one of your possessions, available to any machine logged in using the same Apple ID. Ask for a download on an old machine, and it will offer you the newest version that’s compatible.

Apple only keeps the most current version of Pages in the Mac App Store, and does not offer full downloads of past versions. The two iconic references are:

Pages v6.6.1 (macOS Sierra) Pages ’09 v4.3

If you were using Pages v5.6.n (yellow icon) on El Capitan, and do not have it on a Time Machine backup, then you are out of luck, as it is no longer obtainable. If you were using Pages ’09 v4 (purple icon) from the (retail) iWork ’09 DVD, (or the Mac App Store) — it too is no longer available from Apple as it was discontinued in 2013.

If you do have a retail iWork ’09 DVD (also available from Amazon and Ebay resellers), you can reinstall that into El Capitan, and then apply the Apple iWork 9.3 updater. That will bring the individual iWork ’09 applications to their 12/2012 (last revisions). A trial version of the iWork ’09 DVD is now worthless, and can be thrown away.

Pages v5 and v6 documents are not directly openable by Pages ’09, and must be exported by their respective versions to Pages 09 format. If you have these on El Capitan, and without Pages v5.6.n to export with, you will not have access to these documents unless opened on a machine running Sierra or later.

Question: Q: Free iWork and iMovie missing — El Capitan

I upgraded to OS X El Capitan from Mavericks on my MBP Mid 2009, but I didn’t get free Pages, Keynote, Numbers and iMovie. Why is that? I was looking forward to it and it was the main reason I upgraded.

I was having the same problem with my MacBookAir, but was able to fix the problem rather simply. As mentioned above, your apps are tied to the Apple ID. If you’ve previously had the app installed or purchased under your Apple ID, do this. Open the App Store application, go to «Store» in the menu bar, and select «View My Account.» Sign in and then select «Purchases.» From there you will see any previous apps you’ve purchased or downloaded. That’s were I found iMovie and it downloaded without a hitch. If you are having problems, like I was, then you are most likely not signed into your account in the App Store application.

Login to your account with your Apple ID. Goto «Account Information». Under «Hidden Items», manage and unhide all hidden apps assigned to your Apple ID. They will then appear under «Purchased». Bingo.

I’m a little confused over your question. Are you saying you already had Pages, Keynote, Numbers and iMovie installed and they got deleted during the update?

Or are you saying you did not have them, but expected them to come included with El Capitan?

I’m not aware of anything with El Capitan that was supposed to include iWork. All these programs are still being sold on the App Store. Do you have a link?

Why is it then that on apple main site it says OS X El Capitan come with built-in apps and Keynote, Pages and Numbers are listed

Because that page is all about a Mac, as noted in the heading and the first line in the subtext:

Every Mac comes with a collection of great apps…

Note that is says Every Mac, not Every Mac OS.

Also note that the description of each of those apps has a footnote. See the bottom of the page.

As with the previous OS, you have to go to the App store and download them. They are free. If it says you have to pay, call apple. It should say they are Free.

Fair enough going over the Page again with a fine tooth comb you are right, and I suppose people reading the page should not expect Page and Keynote to be free. It would be like expect Microsoft giving you Word and Powerpoint for free when you upgrade to Windows 10

Actually, from that link, in small small print in the top right is a «upgrade» button. When you click that and read a bit further from that link, there is a list of what’s included: https://www.apple.com/osx/how-to-upgrade/ None of those iApps are listed.

Purchases are tied to you & your Apple ID, not to the machine they run on. So just use the Apple Id you used when you had them free (if you ever got them free. I got them free with Macbook Pro late 2013).

4. В перечне апдейтов должны появиться Pages, Keynote и Numbers, которые и нужно обновить до текущей версии.

5. После полного обновления всех трёх программ iWork’09 trials самоудалится. Ещё один плюс – каждая программа будет отображаться в покупках отдельно.

Иногда все продолжает работать и на новых системах, но политика Miscrosoft по поводу MS Office мне неизвестна. Если сталкивались, расскажите о своем опыте в комментариях. В случаях переноса программного обеспечения на новый компьютер может потребоваться связаться со службой поддержки.

Для моей работы вполне хватает возможностей бесплатного пакета офисных программ LibreOffice. Этот пакет, как и его родоначальник Open Office не отличаются скоростью работы на медленных компьютерах, периодически ломают форматирование при открытии документов MS Office, плюс в нем нет некоторых возможностей. Но это вовсе не значит, что данный офисный пакет низкого качества. Зачастую он открывает старые документы MS Office гораздо лучше, чем новый продукт Microsoft. Плюс у него привычный интерфейс, так что перейти на него будет легко, особенно если новый ленточный интерфейс от Microsoft вам не по душе. А некоторые возможности LibreOffice превышают таковые у платных продуктов. Ну а самое главное, что LibreOffice полностью бесплатен (без рекламы и вредоносного ПО) и доступен на Mac OS, Linux и конечно же Windows. При этом данный пакет не отличается на разных платформах, в отличии от того же MS Office.

Среди других офисных пакетов можно также выделить бесплатную версию китайского Kingsoft Office (Windows), а также бесплатный Quick Office от Google (Android, iOS, Google Chrome) и Google Docs. Тем более, что последний позволяет теперь и работать с документами в офлайне.

Владельцы новых компьютеров Mac с операционной системой Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks могут бесплатно получить офисный пакет iWork (Pages, Numbers, Keynote), а также приложения пакет iWork (iPhone, iMovie, GarageBand. ) и Aperture бесплатно. iWork и iLife для мобильной операционной системы iOS бесплатны в App Store для новых устройств с iOS 7. Если вы работаете только с устройствами Apple (iMac, MacBook, iPad, iPhone), то выбор офисного пакета очевиден.

Но вот что же делать владельцам старых компьютеров Макинтош? Можно воспользоваться одной хитростью, которая с октября 2013 года позволяет обновить условно-бесплатные версии iWork, iLife, Aperture до полноценных версий. Таким образом вы можете бесплатно получить не только офисный пакет, но и программное обеспечение для работы с фото и видео. Но для начала нужно обязательно обновить Mac OS до версии 10.9.

Apple прекрасно знает о том, что пользователи могут обновить условно-бесплатные версии до полноценных, причем на вопрос о данной дыре еще в октябре сообщила следующее:

Мы знаем, что это позволяет обновлять пиратские копии до легальных. Apple никогда не предпринимала жестких действий по отношению к интернет-пиратству. Нам хотелось бы верить, что наши пользователи честны, даже если эта вера ложна.

Дыра продолжает работать, то остается предположить, что Apple просто хочет пересадить пользователей на свою инфраструктуру, поскольку бесплатные программы составляют существенную конкуренцию. Тем более, что железо у Apple очень и очень дорогое. Тот, кто не хочет платить, все равно поставит пиратскую версию, поэтому будем считать далее, что вера Apple в честность оказалась ложна 😉

Как получить iWork (Pages, Numbers, Keynote), iPhoto, iMovie, Aperture для Mac OS X 10.9 бесплатно

1. Скачиваем условно-бесплатную (trial) версию iWork, iMovie и Aperute отсюда и Aperture.
   К сожалению, ссылки на условно-бесплатные версии iMovie и Aperture с сайта Apple больше не работают. Скачать их конечно можно с торрент трекера ThePirateBay или других источников, но при этом безусловно нет гарантии отсутствия вредоносного ПО в бесплатной раздаче через торренты.
2. Устанавливаем условно-бесплатную версию
3. Далее можно перейти в настройках к выбору языка и региона, где выбрать английский язык и США, как приоритетнтый. Но у некоторых пользователей обновление работает и без этого.

Для смены языка откройте «Системные настройки» -> «Язык и регионы». Слева будет предпочитаемый язык. Английский перетягиваете наверх, чтобы он был первым. Возникнет запрос о перезагрузке системы.

Перезагружаемся.

Открываем Mac App Store. Должно появиться сообщение, предлагающее обновить условно-бесплатные версии до последних.

После обновления вы сможете увидеть полную версию продукта в истории ваших покупок.

Профит!

Если у вас уже были до этого установлены iWork, Aperture, iMovie, то можно попробовать их удалить и установить условно-бесплатные версии. Если не поможет, то потребуется чистая система. Можно установить Mac OS X 10.9 заново, а можно почистить старую систему при помощи CleanMyMac 2 (платное приложение).

Что интересно, получить iWork (Pages, Numbers, Keynote), iPhoto, iMovie, Aperture для Mac OS X 10.9 бесплатно можно даже на хакинтоше. Но при этом нужно воспользоваться загрузчиком Clover, поскольку в с случае с Chameleon, Chimera возникает ошибка

Также проблемы могут возникать с приложениями, для которых не хватает kext’а графической карты, но с офисными приложениями все должно сработать. Только убедитесь, что обновились до Mac OS X 10.9.
