Question: Q: «The java jar file could not be launched.» check the console for possible error messages
I try to open a zip file, and I get a pop up saying, » The java jar file could not be launched. check the console for possible error messages.» I have read that the solution is by accessing Java Preferences, but the last update took that away. Does anybody know what to do? Does anybody know any alternative Openers I can use for zip files? Anything other than Java? Java is really bugging me I can’t stand it. But if there is a solution, I will use it. Thanks in advance everyone.

Ctrl-click on the .zip file, hover your mouse over Open With, and in the submenu select Archive Utility. If Archive Utility isn’t listed, click on «Other. » in the submenu, click on your main hard drive, and then go to System > Library > CoreServices and click on Archive Utility, then click on Open.

sorry i said zip files, i also mean Jar files. Java Jar files. Also, when I use archive utility, all it does is make a copy of the folder and puts it on the desktop. What’s next. Thanks a lot in advance.

What version of Java are you using?
Feb 22, 2013 3:02 AM
the latest, Java 7, for the latest version of OSX Lion, 10.7.5

As the error message says, go to your hard drive > Applications > Utilities > Console and then open the jar file. Then select, copy and paste the java error message into a new post in this thread.

the latest, Java 7, for the latest version of OSX Lion, 10.7.5
Then the Java Preferences was replaced by the Java Control Panel accessed via System Preferences->Java. See if that has a preference to «Enable Logging», otherwise it may not show up in Console’s Log List.

Brandon Sky- sorry I am replying so late, for I have been very busy. The error message i got in Console after trying to open the file is below.
Thanks MadMacs0, for I enabled Logging to be able to see this error messsage. Do you know how to access the page that says whether you are using 32-bit or 64-bit under the Java Control Panel? everyone says that is the solution to my problem, but unfortunately it was all under «Java Preferences.»
Brandon Sky- I do not know what this error message means, do u know? lol thanks 🙂

This is another error message from a different file, I am pretty sure.

Where did you download it from, java.com or oracle.com? If the latter, did you install the JRE or JDK?
Do you also have Java SE 6 from Apple installed, either by migrating from a previous OS X or installing it when you first got your Lion Mac?
Do you know if those files will work with Java 6, Java 7 or both?

No, unfortunately all I know about the Java Control Panel come from here since I can’t run it with my setup yet.

Please help me, I am having the same problem.
here is the code i got
9/4/17 8:45:49.703 PM RTProtectionDaemon[46]: *** Expected to get UTI for file ‘/Users/danielchaput/swrbns’ but got NULL on line (/LSCore.cp:2344). Flags are 0000000000007000. Please amend with this information.

You can’t possibly be having the same problem. The RTProtectionDaemon has only been in existence for about two months and this discussion is over four years old.
The error message you posted says nothing about a java jar. AFAIK, RTProtection does not use Java code at all.
You posted this in the OS X v10.7 Lion Forum. Are you really running that old a system? Malwarebytes for Mac only runs on macOS 10.10 through 10.12.
There are only two or three persons who might see your posting, so it’s never a good idea to post a «me too», especially one this old. Answers will likely only come if you start a new discussion item in the appropriate Forum for you OS, explaining your situation in much more detail than you have. That will allow maximum exposure and get you much more help faster. That’s just the way the Forum works.
Better yet, get help from the developer on the Malwarbytes for Mac Support Forum.

Java error mac os

Thanks to Brody and Mark Jalbert to help me to find the problem I hope this not ocurred again.
I give some feedback if this problem ocurred to other person, I see same error from 2009/2010. so is not a current problem, is a MacOS software problem of folders/permissions.
Now I reboot, and all is solved (I already reboot 3 times and check and uncheck box you say).
Now something change=
Myuser$ /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c «Print» $HOME/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.java.JavaPreferences.*
Is not a good idea to add permissions to all folders, and give wrong permissions or more permissions o files. is really danger, please do a backup first if you want to do a test.
I think the permissions, and the reboot solve, but I’m not sure what really do this change.
how i fix the problem:
files i add permissions of my user, and write read:
I add here too a R+W permission to «system» and to my user r+w
/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.java.JavaPreferences.*.plist file and ran Java Preferences again.
4) Shutdown, and boot again.
IF PROBLEM PERSIST:=
Go to folder of JAVAWS path:
Lunch you jsp application:
TigreDARK:bin XXXXXXX$ ./javaws /Users/myuser/Desktop/login.jsp
If give you this error, like my error PROBLEM, is a permission of files problem.
TigreDARK:bin XXXXXXXX$ Error occurred during initialization of VM
java/lang/ClassNotFoundException: error in opening JAR file

Helpful answers
Make sure the Java you have installed is not subject to the problems of Flashback.

I’d advise you to stop customizing permissions and trashing system files. Open Applications > Utilities > Java Preferences.app and check the Enable applet plugin and Web Start applications box. Check the Java SE 6 (System) JVM’s and close the application.

Question: Q: Java Web start in Mac OSX 10.7.5
I can no longer use Java Web Start on my Macbook running Max OSX 10.7.5 and java version 1.6.0_37. When I attempt to launch a Java Web Start file, I get a popup that says:
To open this Web Start application, you need to download the Java Runtime Environment.
Click «More Info. » to visit the website for the Java Runtime Environment.
Clicking more info brings me to an Oracle Java download page for Java 7, which I do not which to install yet.
I have followed the steps at the above link, but it does not fix my problem; I get exactly the same popup window. I have done extensive Googling on other fixes to this without any luck.
My Java browser plugin is:
Java(TM) — Version: 14.5.0
Java Plug-In 2 for NPAPI Browsers
The thread at https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4136010?start=15&tstart=0 suggests using plugin version 14.4.0, but I don’t know how to get that version.
Any ideas on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated!

I’m pretty sure my problem is about the same. Basically I cant install the Java 7 update cause I get an error message during download telling me I dont have mac os x 10.7 or higher. but I do. The Oracle Java update for Lion just isnt recognizing it! I have mac os x lion 10.7.5 on my laptop and for some reason, certain Pogo games wont load. it says its loading but never does and just closes. I went to the help page, did what it said, I scanned for current updates, installed them, rebooted then went back to Pogo and clicked on the java test link to see what version im running. I got the error «missing plug in» so I clicked on it and was taken to Java’s website for instructions, clicked «Download Java for Mac OS X,» then hit sytem requirements and saw that I had to be running os x 10.7.3 or above and I have 10.7.5. I was good to go, hit download and now Im here! Annoyed and confused beause updates and upgrades are pretty basic and simple. You either meet the system requirements or you dont. I meet them but cant get them cause it says I dont. its a viscious cycle and Im rambling like a madwoman! Is there an easy yes or no answer to this, maybe a follow steps 1,2,3 A,B,C you can post for non computer savvy moms? LOL I just want the handful of Pogo games I used to be able to play, to play again. nothing complicated! And why is it only some games and not all of them? Dont answer that, my hair already hurts. haha
Im not much of a computer person, but Im sure thats more than obvious, so my apologies if my problem has nothing to do with this one. tell me where to go or what forum to read thru for help. I also want to pologize in advance for the help Im gonna need after I get this updated! lol I hear the update has something screwy with the plugins being enabled and that its another nightmare with this whole new oracle java deal. Hmmm, maybe I shouldnt even do this java update. 😕 😁
