Практически сразу релиза Windows 10, версия 2004 в апреле 2020 года некоторые пользователи стали сообщать о проблемах с сохранением паролей в браузерах и приложениях. В отчетах упоминались браузеры Google Chrome и Microsoft Edge, почтовый клиент Outlook, облачное хранилище OneDrive и другие программы.

Microsoft признала проблему в июне 2020 года и опубликовала соответствующее подтверждение на странице поддержки:

Microsoft активно занимается изучением данной проблемы. Судя по нашим метрикам для OSCrypt.Win.KeyDecryptionError количество инцидентов является не слишком значительным, но достаточным, чтобы мы обратили внимание на данную ошибку. Будет интересно проанализировать динамику данных Chrome для этого показателя.

На странице поддержки сообщается, что проблема проявляется при настройке определенным образом некоторых задач планировщика Windows 10, в частности задачи служебной программы участия клиента HP. Данной проблеме подвержены системы под управлением Windows 10, версия 2004 сборка 19041.173 и выше.

В качестве временного решения Microsoft предлагает запустить скрипт PowerShell, чтобы вывести список всех задач, которые могут влиять на процедуру сохранения паролей, после чего отключить их.

• Запустите Windows PowerShell от имени администратора устройства.
• Выполните следующую команду:

• Запишите задания в выходных данных.
• Откройте Планировщик задач в Windows 10.
• Найдите задачи из выходных данных Windows PowerShell. Щелкните по ним правой кнопкой мыши и выберите Отключить.
• Перезагрузите систему.

18 декабря 2020 года менеджер программы Microsoft Edge, Эрик Лоуренс (Eric Lawrence) подтвердил, что компании удалось найти решение данной проблемы. Компания интегрировала исправление в последнюю тестовую сборку Windows 10 Insider Preview и планирует предложить его всем пользователям в будущих обновлениях. Точная дата релиза неизвестна, но, скорее всего, исправление станет частью предстоящего накопительного обновления.

Следующие накопительные обновления для Windows 10 будут выпущены 12 января 2021 года, 9 февраля 2021 года и 9 марта 2021 года.

Лоуренс отметил, что проблема затрагивает «сравнительно небольшое количество пользователей с задачами S4U».

Microsoft Edge при старте просит ввести логин и пароль от незнакомого сервера

Это стало проявляться с момента последнего обновления. Раньше не замечал. В настройках Edge установлено при старте открывать новую страницу. Однако, как только броузер стартует, появляется окно с приглашением ввести логин и пароль от некоего прокси-сервера https://nl11.lunrac.com. Причем приглашение исчезает через секунду и появляется снова. Так несколько раз. И только потом броузер открывает новую страницу. Что это может быть? Подцепил вирусняк? У меня MacAfee LiveSafe лицензионный установлен.

How to disable or remove Microsoft Edge Legacy on Windows 10

Microsoft Edge Legacy is the HTML-based default browser which presents in all Windows 10 devices. And earlier this year on January 15, Microsoft introduced the Chromium-based Edge browser which has lots of inbuilt features to improve the browsing experience for users. In this post, we will outline the steps you can take to disable or remove Edge Legacy on your Windows 10 device.

If you were running, but now would rather not run Edge Legacy side-by-side with Edge Chromium, you can follow the instructions outlined below to easily disable or remove Edge Legacy on your Windows 10 device.

Do the following:

• Press Windows key + R to invoke the Run dialog box.
• Copy and paste the file/folder path below into the Run dialog box and hit Enter.

• Tap the BACKSPACE key on the keyboard.
• Right-click on the Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe folder.
• Click Rename.
• In this example, you can rename it as Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbweLEGACY.
• Hit Enter key.

You’ll be prompted with a confirmation message for the file operation.

Click on OK and proceed with the operation.

If you encounter any issue, like the file is already in use, stop all the Edge Process from the Task Manager and continue.

Once you complete the operation, the Edge Legacy browser should be disabled or removed.

If you want the old browser back, just change the folder name back to the original name you made a note of previously.

I understand how you feel about the situation. Let me help you in resolving the issue. Before that let me ask a question so that I can assist you better.

How many user accounts have you set up on the computer?

You might face this issue if you have entered a wrong password or selected a different user account while unchecking the option «Users must enter a username and password to use this computer». I would suggest you to follow these steps and check if it helps:

1. Press Windows key + R on the keyboard.
2. Type “control userpasswords2” without quotes and press Enter.
3. Click on the User account to which you login.
4. Uncheck the option «Users must enter a username and password to use this computer». If it is already unchecked, then place a check mark and then uncheck it.
5. You will be requested to enter the Username and Password. Fill in the details correctly. Type in the Username, Password and Confirm Password manually.
6. Click on OK and then again OK.
7. Restart the computer and check if the issue persists.

How to run Legacy Edge and Chromium Edge side by side in Windows 10

Microsoft Edge updates will be tied with Windows Update, starting with the release candidate, It will not allow you to use the older version or Legacy version of Edge anymore. Any attempt will launch the Chromium version of Edge. However, you can enable side-by-side experience setting that will allow you to run both Legacy and the Chromium versions of Microsoft Edge on Windows 10.

The new version of Microsoft Edge will replace all existing shortcuts, pinned icons, and any reference with the new one. Also, let me clear one thing. If you been using Microsoft Edge Chromium, it is the latest version. The legacy version is the NON-CHROMIUM version. The release candidate will become officially available from January 15th, 2020. Some of us might be using Edge beta for so long, and this new version might sound different except that it is not.

Run Legacy Edge & Chromium Edge side by side

When the Chromium version of Edge gets installed in Windows, it will HIDE the Legacy version automatically. It is there, but if you install the stable version, it will not be visible. However, if you want to use both of the versions side-by-side, you need to enable a group policy or change registry settings on the computer. Some of the businesses who were using the older version for their products, then to make sure everything works as before, it is an important feature.

1] Enable Side-by-side experience using Registry Editing

Open Registry Editor

Navigate to Microsoft Polices

Right-click on the Microsoft folder, and create a new key with name EdgeUpdate

Select EdgeUpdate folder, and right-click on the empty side on the left-side

Create a new 32-bit DWORD with the name Allowsxs

Double click to edit the value of Allowsxs and set it as 1.

2] Enable Side-by-side experience using Group Policy

1. Open the Group Policy Editor by typing gpedit.msc in the Run prompt followed by pressing the Enter Key.
2. In Group Policy Editor, navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Microsoft Edge Update > Applications.
3. Under Applications, select Allow Microsoft Edge Side by Side browser experience and then click Edit policy setting.
4. Select Enabled and then click OK.

Note: While Microsoft Docs clearly says this policy is there, I wasn’t able to find it yet.

Apart from this, Microsoft has also talked about a Registry entry, which is also not visible. I am guessing that it will be available later. It has something to do with the GP policy.

After the systems are fully updated and the Stable channel of the next version of Microsoft Edge is installed, the following registry key and value is set:

Key value: BrowserReplacement

This key is overwritten every time the Microsoft Edge Stable channel is updated. As a best practice, we recommend that you don’t delete this key to allow users to access both versions of Microsoft Edge.

After following any of these methods, if you install Microsoft Edge Chromium, the old Edge will be renamed as Microsoft Edge legacy. However, the instances from Taskbar, Pinned tiles, etc. will be removed.

When enable Edge Legacy Support?

You need to enable the side by side browser experience before Microsoft starts rolling out the Chromium version of Edge. If you are an IT admin, make sure to deploy the settings to all the users.

You can also choose to delay the Windows updates, which in turn will delay the installation of the Edge Stable Chromium version on Windows 10. Windows allows you to pause updates which will give you enough time to change the group policy settings, and also test the new version of Edge if you haven’t tried it yet.

The best would be to install the Beta version and experience it. It comes with the least number of bugs, as of now matches with the release candidate version.

Enable Edge Legacy mode after installing Edge Chromium Stable

If you have already installed it, then a lot of things have already happened. Here is the list of drawbacks.

• You will have to re-pin the Legacy Edge to Start or Taskbar and Start Menu as the new one will overwrite them.
• Sites that were pinned to Start or the Taskbar for Microsoft Edge Legacy will convert to the new version of Microsoft Edge. So you will have to recreate them again.

Let us figure out how to fix this situation:

• Go to Settings > Apps & Features > Select and then Uninstall Microsoft Edge Chromium (Stable)
• As soon as you uninstall, the Legacy Edge Browser will appear.
• Create the Registry Key or update the Group policy which I have mentioned above (Allowsxs)
• Download and install Microsoft Edge Stable
• Go back to the Start menu, and you should see both of them.

As you can see in the above image, I have all versions of Edge (Chromium) and Edge Legacy installed. While in the Start menu, the difference is evident with the name, in the applications list, its called Microsoft Edge (Microsoft Corporation) and has the old icon.
