Linux how to delete qt creator
I installed Creator using the downloaded qt-creator-linux-x86-opensource-2.1.0.bin before I realized it was available in my package manager. I’m using Gnome in Fedora 14.
How do I remove QT Creator from my system? I don’t think the usual yum approach will work as I didn’t install it that way. The program appears in my Gnome Applications menu so I don’t think just deleting the directory in my home is going to get everything.
if you install qt you can choose in wich folder you want to install.
if you did it when you where root, you’ve probebly put it in /opt/qt.
just remove the folder and links to it and change your $env.
i use ubuntu, but i noticed that the original package from qt works better then the one trough the package manager.
Probebly you could also add the bin to the reposetorie from yum, but i dont know how.
Edit:
you can check here for how its done remotely;
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/hints/downloads/files/dpkg.txt
its only an other package manager, but the idea is the same.
Sweet. thanks for the help. I didn’t find it in yum (although it might be there. I may not have looked for it correctly) but I did see it in the Add/Remove Software gui tool in Gnome. I should have looked there before installing it from a downloaded .bin. Now the issue is to get the version I installed out of the system so I can install it with the gui tool, which will then track updates for me automatically, as well as track what goes in so I can remove it. I’ll check what you mentioned but I’m still nervous it put itself in various places in the system. after all, it appears in the menus in Gnome.

i had a problem with the distrubeted version of ubuntu, so i had to use the original package from Qt.

i already told you how to remove. its not difficult.[/quote]

When you use linux, the sooner or later you have to change something that is not suported from your distribution. Never be afraid to change something. you can always change it back.
check the lfs-book and try to setup one of your own.
it takes for the first time, only 1 or 2 days. but you have learned almost everything you need from your system in that time.
if you still dont want to remove it,
you also could install the other version next to it, it doesnt really matter.

Как удалить QT4 и установить QT5 в Linux
Поскольку в проекте необходима программа QT, необходимо установить библиотеку поддержки программного обеспечения QT5 и среду разработки QT:
apt-get insatall qt-creator
apt-get insatall qt-creator

If the package you need is available in the repos then you should usually choose to install that way (via synaptic, apt-get. whatever your favourite package management program is) and not from a .tar.gz.
Re: How to Uninstall QT (4.7.0)
i extracted the files from the .tar.gz file and went into the directory that was on my desktop. i did do what you did to install it, but then i deleted the folder
so cant cd into the same directory. unless your talking about the install directory
Re: How to Uninstall QT (4.7.0)
rm -r programfilename programfilename.tar.gz is the command to remove the application directory and the .tar.gz. If you have already removed them you don’t this one.

Install Qt 5 on Ubuntu
Introduction
This is a tutorial for installation of Qt 5.7.0 to Ubuntu 12.10. It may be used for some newer versions of Qt and Ubuntu. As a counterexample, Ubuntu 16.04 LTS uses an independent system for controlling the Qt version. Following these directions for Ubuntu 16.04 results in an error where a file can’t be found in a qt4 directory, even though you’re installing qt5 not 4. Another difference for OpenGL has been found and added as a note below.
Installation Guide (Ubuntu package)
Open a terminal. Type the following command and hit Enter: sudo apt-get install qt5-default
Qt 5.x will be installed.
Installation Guide (Qt download page)
Visit Qt downloads page an download a 32-bit or 64-bit Linux installation depending your version of Ubuntu. The installation file can be also downloaded through the command line using wget.
This is valid until 5.14.2 due to policy change, distributing Open Source Qt linux package is discontinue from 5.15.0. You need to build your own package starting from 5.15.0.
Adjust permission, run the installer and follow the instruction to complete the installation.
chmod +x qt-opensource-linux-x64-5.7.0.run ./qt-opensource-linux-x64-5.7.0.run
Open a terminal and execute the following command to install g++: sudo apt-get install build-essential
- Install generic font configuration library — runtime
Open a terminal and execute the following command to install the full runtime files for the generic font configuration library: sudo apt-get install libfontconfig1
Launch Qt Creator. Go to Tools > Options. Click Build & Run and select tab Kit. Configure a compiler if it is not automatically detected.
Execute the following command to install OpenGL libraries: sudo apt-get install mesa-common-dev
Note: Just installing the above-mentioned mesa-common-dev kit is not sufficient for more recent Ubuntu versions. Based on a comment in the Qt forum [1] an additional package needs installation. Execute following command: sudo apt-get install libglu1-mesa-dev -y Tested with Qt5.3.1 and Ubuntu 14.04 and it solved the problem with missing -lGL.
- Set file association with pro files
When installing from the on-line source the file association is not done automatically. It also not show up when you try to associate it with file explorer. Create a file named “Qt-Creator.desktop” and fill the file with the following.
[Desktop Entry] Version=1.0 Encoding=UTF-8 Type=Application Name=QtCreator Comment=QtCreator NoDsiplay=true Exec=(Install folder of QT)/Tools/QtCreator/bin/qtcreator %f Icon=(Install folder of QT)/5.4/Src/qtdoc/doc/images/landing/icon_QtCreator_78x78px.png Name[en_US]=Qt-Creator
Place this file in home .local/share/applications .
Edit a file named “defaults.list” in the same directory . Add the following line.
open file mimeapps.list and check if the following line is present.
if not add it under [added Associations].
Run the following command.
sudo update-mime-database /usr/share/mime
now Qt has been added to the list of file associations.
Troubleshooting
- Qt Creator needs a compiler set up to build
Follow the instruction from the previous section to configure compiler for Qt Creator.
Solution: sudo apt-get install build-essential
- error: GL/gl.h: No such file or directory
Solution: sudo apt-get install mesa-common-dev

Qt Documentation
Contents
Qt’s support for different Linux platforms is extensive and mature.
To download and install Qt for Linux, follow the instructions on the Getting Started with Qt page.
Supported Configurations
The following configurations are supported.
Distribution | Architecture | Compiler | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
CentOS Linux 8.1 | x86_64 | GCC 9 | |
openSUSE 15.2 | x86_64 | GCC 9 | |
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP2 | x86_64 | GCC 10 | |
Ubuntu 20.04 | x86_64 | GCC as provided by Canonical, GCC 9.x | |
Generic Linux | x86 and x86_64 | GCC 9 |
Requirements for Development Host
The Qt installers for Linux assume that a C++ compiler, debugger, make, and other development tools are provided by the host operating system. In addition, building graphical Qt applications requires OpenGL libraries and headers installed. Most Linux distributions do not install all of these by default, but setting up a development environment is still straightforward.
Use the following commands to install the basic requirements for building Qt applications:
Debian/Ubuntu (apt-get)
Fedora/RHEL/CentOS (yum)
openSUSE (zypper)
Building Qt from Source
You can also build Qt from the source package and configure it according to your target platform. The source packages are obtained from http://www.qt.io/download/.
Below, you will find more information about building Qt from source.
