Can Netflix be played on Linux Mint and if so can someone please point me to a guide or provide instruction on how to achieve this, if possible?

I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well.

Yes, usually by enabling DRM in browser settings you can watch Netflix and other streaming services. Might have to restart browser.

While helping other Linux Mint people I came across this cool application too.

Hi,
I have spent the last few days getting Netflix to show in 1080p.
Firefox and Chrome on Mint is 720 resolution max.
Hours of research I found the media player KODI v18 will play 1080p Netflix.

— Kodi v18 «Leia» RC 4 (you need v18 or higher): https://kodi.tv/download
— Netflix plugin for KODI v18+: https://github.com/asciidisco/plugin.video.netflix
— install pycryptodomex
— install inputstream.adaptive
— Then open Netflix settings in KODI and log in to your Netflix account.

Generally Chrome is the best Linux browser for compatibility with such things, chromium isn’t anywhere near it. Google is big enough and actually has paid devs so they get better compatibility.

I rarely use anything but Chrome but others have, ahem, privacy concerns, which I don’t usually but are legitimate.
I also have Vivaldi installed in case I do have privacy concerns with something.

Some want FOSS everything in Linux. I like open source software don’t really care 100% about FOSS. But since HTML5 has rapidly taken over so much of the Web it’s made that issue irrelevant for a browser. HTML5 has DRM built in, which is not FOSS and can never be. So you can’t make a truly FOSS browser that the average user will use for more than a day or 2 without declaring it useless, and the tinfoil hat privacy wacko market isn’t big enough to support browser development.

Or just install Chrome from a .deb, Vivaldi too (it’s the only FF/Chrome alternative I ever had installed for more than 2 days), and Firefox if that turns your crank.

I just tried Chrome 79, Firefox 73?, Vivaldi, and Brave (Version 1.2.43 Chromium: 79 .0.3945.130 (Official Build) (64-bit)) browsers with Netflix and all but Vivaldi worked fine. Brave asked to install the «widevine» DRM drivers which I let it do, and it worked. Not sure if it matters, but in my browsers, I disable ad blocking and allow popups for Netflix and whitelist Netflix in «Disconnect» browser addon.
