Привет, сегодня в статье мы рассмотрим основные параметры экранной заставки в операционной системе Linux Mint, а именно я покажу, как сменить экранную заставку, как полностью ее отключить, как изменить время ожидания перед запуском заставки, а также как отключить блокировку компьютера после запуска заставки.

Для начала давайте разберемся, что же такое «Экранная заставка»?

Что такое экранная заставка?

Экранная заставка (Screensaver) – это программа, которая запускается через определенное время бездействия компьютера и выводит на всем экране монитора статическую или анимированную картинку, тем самым заменяя изображение на экране, а также заставка позволяет отображать время или другую информацию, в случае необходимости можно вообще ничего не выводить, например, отображать только черный экран. У программ такого типа существуют и другие названия, например: хранитель экрана, скринсейвер или screensaver, но все это является одним и тем же, иными словами, назначение таких программ одинаковое.

Экранные заставки могут быть использованы и в целях безопасности, например, можно задать параметр, при котором компьютер будет блокироваться при включении заставки, для разблокировки компьютера потребуется ввести пароль пользователя. Это полезно в тех случаях, когда за компьютером работает несколько пользователей или к компьютеру могут получить физический доступ посторонние люди, т.е. например Вы отошли от компьютера на неопределенное время и забыли его заблокировать или выйти из системы, экранная заставка, после того как запустится, может заблокировать компьютер за Вас.

Экранная заставка в Linux Mint

Сразу скажу, что рассматривать настройки экранной заставки мы будем на примере версии Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon.

По умолчанию в Linux Mint экранная заставка настроена следующим образом: в качестве экранной заставки используется стандартный экран блокировки, на данном экране отображается время на черном фоне, запускается заставка через 15 минут бездействия компьютера, после запуска заставки компьютер блокируется немедленно. Выглядит заставка следующим образом.

После того как Вы пошевелите мышкой или щелкните по клавишам клавиатуры, у Вас отобразится окно ввода пароля, для того чтобы разблокировать компьютер.

Как открыть настройки экранной заставки в Linux Mint 18.3?

Все настройки экранной заставки в Linux Mint расположены в параметрах системы, они так и называются «Экранная заставка». Для того чтобы запустить параметры системы нажмите «Меню->Параметры системы».

Затем в разделе «Параметры» найдите пункт «Экранная заставка».

Также можно запустить параметры экранной заставки и другим способом, например, сразу в меню найти данный пункт. Он находится также в параметрах.

В итоге у Вас отобразятся настройки экранной заставки Linux Mint.

Как сменить экранную заставку в Linux Mint?

Для того чтобы сменить экранную заставку просто в настройках на первой вкладке выбирайте подходящую заставку из представленного перечня.

Как изменить время ожидания перед запуском заставки?

Для того чтобы изменить время ожидания перед запуском, в настройках экранной заставки на вкладке «Настройки», измените параметр задержки на нужное Вам значение. В случае если Вы выберите значение «Никогда», то экранная заставка запускаться не будет, т.е. будет отключена.

Как отключить блокировку компьютера после запуска заставки в Linux Mint?

Если Вы хотите, чтобы компьютер не блокировался после запуска заставки, то в настройках экранной заставки на вкладке «Настройки», в разделе «Настройки блокировки», выключите соответствующий параметр.

На вкладке «Настроить» есть еще несколько полезных параметров, например, Вы можете отобразить на стандартном экране блокировки рядом с часами свое собственное сообщение или сделать так, чтобы часы вообще не отображались.

If memory serve me correctly Mint 13/14 XFCE use Mate Screensaver . There should be a menu entry for it.
If you want xscreensaver, you have to install it. (I prefer it as well. )

The rest of the screensavers (extra ones), I don’t think Mint 13 included that many and if you wanted others, you could use Gnome screensavers

It’s not that I don’t have many. the screensaver setting as a whole is missing. I just installed xscreesaver and when I launch it it say’s gnome screensaver daemon was running which shows it was installed but before I installed xscreensaver there was no screensaver option at all. With xscreensaver I now have one but shouldn’t have had to install it the gnome/mate one should have been in settings and it wasn’t.
I think my install went wrong somewhere between this and my issue in another thread here.

Установить экранную заставку Электронные часы в Linux Mint 17/17.1 XFCE

По умолчанию в дистрибутивах Linux Mint 17/17.1 XFCE установлен и работает Хранитель экрана — XScreenSaver с различными заставками экрана, который включаются во время простоя компьютера через определённое время, с возможностью смены заставок на усмотрение пользователя через определённый интервал времени всех заставок, либо одной, понравившейся пользователю.
Хранитель экрана вы можете найти в меню, кликнув на значке Все настройки:

Для того чтобы заставка Электронные часы с актуальным временем отображалась на вашем компьютере во время простоя, необходимо прежде всего установить пакет QMLSaver, встроить его в конфигурационный файл xscreensaver и активировать.

1. Установка пакета QMLSaver

Откройте терминал (Ctrl+Alt+T), скопируйте и выполните одну из команд, согласно архитектуры вашей системы.

Для систем 32-bit:

cd /tmp; wget https://launchpad.net/

prodoomman/+archive/ubuntu/qmlsaver/+files/qmlsaver_0.1-1%7Enatty1_i386.deb; sudo dpkg -i qmlsaver_0.1-1

Для систем 64-bit:

cd /tmp; wget https://launchpad.net/

prodoomman/+archive/ubuntu/qmlsaver/+files/qmlsaver_0.1-1%7Enatty1_amd64.deb; sudo dpkg -i qmlsaver_0.1-1

2. Изменение конфигурационного файла xscreensaver

Для изменения конфигурационного файла, его нужно открыть в текстовом редакторе следующей командой в терминале:

Когда откроется редактор с файлом, в нижней части списка заставок (НЕ в конец файла), нужно скопировать/вставить следующую строку:

GL: qmlsaver —root 1 \n\

Должно получиться следующим образом, как на снимке:

Сохраните файл Ctrl+S и закройте редактор Ctrl+Q.

3. Активация заставки электронных часов

Откройте Хранитель экрана, в параметре Режим отметьте Only One Screen Saver (Только одна заставка экрана), найдите и активируйте в перечне заставок Qmlsaver, определите время в минутах, через которое будет появляться заставка и можете сделать Предпросмотр:

Вот и всё. Теперь заставка будет показывать актуальное время во время простоя компьютера.

Mint 19 xfce, Where are screensaver settings? «SOLVED»

Hi;
Mint 19xfce i386
I can not find where the settings for screensaver are to shut it off.
I have looked in display, desktop, power
I am not finding it.
Screensaver is installed somewhere because it comes on and I have to use password to unlock it.

So it was probably LOCKSCREEN that kicked in.
I have set that to never in Power manager, hopefully that will solve my issue.
If it did I will edit this to solved.

BEST solution 100% working!
Man, if you want to control screensaver in Mint 19 xfce, simply type in terminal:

sudo apt-get install xscreensaver*

do not forget * on the end , this install all screensaver components
if you not have Matrix-GL, type in terminal:

sudo apt-get install xscreensaver-gl

That’s all! Enjoy!
Now you have section «Screensaver» in Settings Manager and MATRIX-screensaver in it!

[SOLVED] Xfce Screensaver Not Working in Mint20

Another thing I can’t get to the bottom of with my new Mint20 setup is that the screensaver’s not coming on.
I have Power Manager → Display → ‘Display power management’ ticked and ‘Blank after’ set to 1min
and Power Manager → Security → ‘Automatically lock the session’ set to ‘When the screensaver is activated’
and the Light Locker Settings point to the Power Manager, plus has the same auto-lock setting as above.

I leave the PC inactive for a couple of minutes and nothing changes.

Also, when I hit the lock button that I put on the panel, it locks the PC but it only goes blank for a couple of seconds, then comes back with the prompt for the main password and my wallpaper (I’d like a blank screen until I come back and move the mouse).

Is there something else I need to do? Thanks!

I seem to recall the default screensaver setting to be 10 minutes?

There is a Screensaver app in addition to the Power Settings app. Go to the Screensaver app and see what setting options you have.

Power Management app is where Power Settings are. The Screensaver app is separate app from Power Management in my Cinnamon desktop.

I don’t have Xfce, but maybe this How to change the screensaver on XFCE will help you find the settings for Screensaver timing.

Thanks, SMG. No joy . It says «With the main settings window open on the XFCE desktop, scroll through the list of options on the screen until you find ‘Screensaver’ «. See first image below — no Screensaver icon (Aside: neither can I figure out the easy way to share a screenshot here!!). Nor can I find it in the ‘Settings Editor’ which I’ve also linked a shot of below.

The date on that tutorial is 2019, Mint19 era — maybe things have changed? Or maybe I’m going crazy? Quite likely. Or maybe my system’s lost it? In case it’s relevant, I’m missing the graphics device driver, so have radeon.modeset=0 in /etc/default/grub .

BTW, I’ve tried a reboot too.

I just did a search on the Xfce section of the forum and this thread [solved] timeout mentions other tabs on the Power Management app, and this thread [SOLVED] Where’s the screen-saver in LM19 xfce? mentions it can only be controlled in Power Management.

If neither of those help, hopefully someone with Xfce can help you.

Starting with Mint 19 xfce, definitely on Mint 19.3 xfce, by default xfce4-screensaver is no longer installed.
Instead the monitor will be locked by light-locker.
The light-locker unlock screen looks exactly like the slick greeter screen (graphical login screen). But it is in fact the light-locker unlock screen only.
In fact all the «screensaver» related settings are found via System Settings => Power Manager => tabs «Screen» and «Security». This is all there is.

On my Power Management settings: I have the Security tab set to ‘Automatically lock the session When the screensaver is activated’ which seems the obvious setting (and I think default), but have anyway now tried the others with no effect. I’m assuming the General tab control of the Power button etc (physical PC button?) isn’t relevant. System tab is set to ‘System sleep mode: Suspend’, which I also assume isn’t relevant for screen locking. And Display tab is as above (‘Display power management’ ticked and ‘Blank after’ set to 1min).

What you say Karlchen in one on the thread’s SMG points to is also clear and helpful:

This means, the screen saver application xscreensaver, which was the default screensaver on Linux Mint xfce up to and including Linux Mint 18.1, has been replaced in Linux Mint 18.2 xfce and above by light-locker.
In effect, xfce4-power-management will blank the screen after the configured inactivity timeout. No fancy screensaver pictures will be painted on the screen. Instead the screen will be blanked only. Once you press a key or move the mouse, light-locker will kick in and make sure that the Slick-Greeter (unlock) screen will be displayed.

In order to return to xscreensaver, you would have to
+ install the xscreensaver software packages from the official software repositories
+ disable light-locker in your Startup Applications
+ create a new Startup Application entry, which invokes «xscreensaver -no-splash»
+ log off from the xfce DE and log back in.

As your first output, displayed by the command ps -ef | grep -E ‘screen|lock’ , reveals your system uses light-locker indeed. This is the default on recent Mint xfce systems.

By default, after the defined (first) timeout, light-locker will kick in and display its lock-screen.
This lock-screen is in fact the slick-greeter login screen. This is why the lock-screen looks like the login-screen and why it uses the wallpaper, which you have defined for the login screen.
Only after the second timeout has passed, the monitor will be actually blanked.

You can check these 2 timeouts e.g. by executing the terminal command xset q
The relevant lines are at the end. Section «DPMS»:

The given example will yield the following behaviour:
+ After 600 seconds of inactivity the monitor would be sent to standby (black screen). But in-fact light-locker will actually display the unlock-screen.
+ After 900 seconds of inactivity the monitor will switch off (now it will be really black) and remain so till key-press or mouse-move.

When I wrote way back in 2018:

I actually had — in the «Security» tab — configured the unlock-screen to kick in «after the screensaver has stopped». The default, however, is to kick in «when the screensaver starts».

About xfce4-screensaver and xscreensaver:

Before xfce 4.14.2 had been released, xfce 4.12.x and older usually used a screen saver package named «xscreensaver». It was not really part of xfce, but it usually got installed together with xfce.

Since xfce 4.14.2, xfce itself has got a screensaver module, named «xfce4-screensaver». But on Mint this does not come pre-installed with xfce 4.14.2. Instead you have to add it yourself.
If you do, you have to make sure that the Automatic Startup Application «light-locker» has been disabled and «xfce4-screensaver» has been enabled.

If you have replaced light-locker by xfce4-screensaver, then System Settings => Power Management will no longer have the «Security» tab. Instead there will be a dedicated System Settings => Xfce4 Screensaver configuration item.

Note : xfce4-screensaver and xscreensaver are not the same screensaver software and behave differently.
