Как подключить сетевой диск к Linux Mint 20

Mint очень популярный дистрибутив Linux. В большинстве случаев его ставят на предприятиях разного уровня в качестве альтернативы Windows. Это связанно в первую очередь с его простотой и удобством использования. Это касается и администрирования и простых пользователей. Например, подключить общею папку к Mint очень просто, не нужно даже прибегать к использованию терминала. Все делается через графическую оболочку. Но все же есть кое какие нюансы о которых сейчас вам расскажу.

Данная статья в первую очередь предназначена для начинающих системных администраторов и рядовых пользователей. Кстати рекомендую прочитать статью в которой я рассказывал о том как установить принтер.

Подключаем общею папку к Mint

И так у вас есть общая папка которая расположена на сервере с Windows. Для того чтобы подключить этот ресурс к Linux Mint нужно зайти в «Пуск» и выбрать «Сеть».

Далее в поле «Перейти к» вводим IP адрес компьютера на котором расположена эта папка.

Дальше нужно будет указать учетные данные, имя пользователя, домен и пароль. Так же не забываем отмечать пункт «Запомнить навсегда» иначе каждый раз при обращение к сетевому диску их нужно будет вводить.

После удачной авторизации вы увидите все доступные сетевые папки расположение на сервере, выбираем необходимую.

После чего произойдет монтирование папки и ссылка на неё появиться в разделе «Сеть.»

Но после перезагруки компьютера она пропадет. Поэтому на неё нужно сделать закладку. Для этого выделаем общею папку которая появилась в разделе «Сеть», на панели инструментов выбираем пункт «Закладки» и «Добавить закладку».

Теперь у вас в постоянно будет закладка на общею папку. Таким образом можно подключить несколько сетевых папок. Это самый простой и быстрый способ подключения сетевого диска к Linux Mint.

After the installation of Linux Mint Mate 19, sharing is not enabled by default.
Solution:
# # if samba not installed, then:
sudo apt install samba

# # after that
sudo apt install caja-share

# # caja-share is for Mint Mate, use appropriate versions for other env
# # now folder /var/lib/samba/usershares is absent, create it

sudo mkdir /var/lib/samba/usershares
sudo chgrp sambashare /var/lib/samba/usershares
sudo chmod 1770 /var/lib/samba/usershares

# # reboot, then right-click on a folder, select Sharing Options etc. Done!

Why on earth would you put a share inside /var/lib ?

This worked like a charm, thanks for sharing.

After executing the commands above my Windows 7 machine was able to connect to the shared Public folder on my fresh install Linux Mint 19 Mate machine, but my Mint machine could not connect to the Public folder I had created and shared on my Windows 7 machine. I found that 2 things were needed to make this happen:

# # Set a password for samba:
sudo smbpasswd -a your_username

# # Limit the protocols for samba:
xed admin:///etc/samba/smb.conf

And in the global settings, below the line ‘workgroup=WORKGROUP’, add the line:
client max protocol = NT1

After this you can use ‘browse network’ in caja to go to the windows machine and open the share.

My Windows 7 machine’s network is set on «public» and it’s advanced share settings are on «Turn ON password protected sharing», so I got a «Password required» popup window upon first connection. On more relaxed share settings in Windows 7 this popup might not appear, I did not try that.

Fill out:
username: your_windows_username
domain: your_windows_workgroupname
password: your_windows_user’s_password

and choose between:
Forget password immediately
Remember password until you logout
Remember forever

I chose remember forever to be done with it until Mint 20 comes out.

From hereon the Public folder I shared on my Windows 7 machine was accessible from Linux Mint.

I realize that this is technically outside the scope of the tread, but it’s only 2 little extra things to do to have it working both ways so I thought it usefull to post it regardless.

Access a remote Windows shared folder from Linux Mint

I am a Windows intermediate user and I have recently installed Linux Mint 13 Maya 32-bit version on my laptop. Earlier my major activities in my Windows box were:

• Connecting to internet, wifi, VPN etcetera
• Doing RDC
• Accessing shared folders.

I am able to achieve the first 2 things. The last one, I am puzzled as how to access a Windows shared folder from my Linux Mint laptop.

Note: There is no Virtual box here. My laptop has only Linux mint. I am just trying to access a remote windows shared folder.

In windows I used to do this.

Goto run and type the command

Here, how can I do that? Any simple way or tools?

Assuming your network is properly configured, you should be able to just click on the server name from your file manager:

In the best case scenario, roperly configured» just means you have run this command:

This is what worked for me (mint 17):

With the proper filesystem driver, you can mount Windows SMB shares as with any other type of remote fileshare; I gather Mint calls the package cifs-tools , and once installed you should be able to do something approximating mount -t cifs ‘\\path\to\share’ /mnt/share and get the expected result.

For a more FTP/SFTP-style interface, there’s also smbclient , which is probably packaged under that name or something close to it. If you only need to grab a file off the share every now and then, smbclient may suffice; for any more frequent usage than that, I definitely recommend installing cifs-tools and mounting the share.

I have been using NFS and CIFS for decade(s). but I ran into an issue where I could not get a volume mounted through normal CIFS.

I found a utility called SMB4K that is a package you can install.

Works like a dream. Mounts the CIFS under your home directory and puts an icon down in your menubar that allows you to control it.

Works like a dream. I use it under MINT (with UBUNTU). Auto-starts and auto-mounts every time I restart my workstation.

File sharing does not work. I have made a share folder by using sharing options in the file manager. I see that this folder appears on file manager on another computer in LAN. But I can not open this share on other computer. I know that in April was very bad update of Samba, so it have not been improved

$ sudo chown root:sambashare /var/lib/samba/usershares/
$ sudo service samba restart

(instead «samba» here must be «smbd» ?)

I am in the group sambashare.

$ sudo smbpasswd -a user’s_name_for_Samba

But file sharing still does not work. So, there is absent simple file sharing «from the box» in Linux Mint, isn’t it?

Another PC which can not open my shared folder is Windows XP SP3 and Android phone with ES File Explorer. On Windows XP I see message that I have not rights to open share. Interesting, that to open share Music (in my home folder) windows xp prompt to enter login and pass (my MINT login/pass doesnt work)and two another shares on FAT32 disc only show that there is no permission without login/pass window. There is no any reaction when I tap on my shared folders in ES Explorer on Android.

Sharing in mint 18 does not work on Live USB boot and on installed system too.

You’ve got a couple of issues here.

[1] Your netbios name.

Testparm gives you a warning about that:

Unless you override this in smb.conf samba uses the linux host name as the netbios name but it has length limitations when using Windows.

Run the following command:

Count the number of characters. If it’s more than 15 characters long you will need to override this in smb.conf:

** Edit /etc/samba/smb.conf as root:

The netbios name does not have to be «mintbox» but it does have to be 15 characters or less in length.

** Then restart samba in this order:

[2] Share credentials.

All of your shares require a user name and password to gain access. Did you add those users to the samba password database?

Let’s say you want to access those shares from WinXP as velix. To add that name to samba run this command:

All of your shares that exist in the /media/velix/XXX path will only be accessible to velix. If you only access this box with the velix user name that’s not a problem. But if you have another user that wants access you will need to change smb.conf again:

Add one more line — under the ones you added in [1]:

Thanks! I have add all strings you suggested to conf file. Also, I made «sudo smbpasswd -a velix» and type password.
Now shares work. But only when I make it with guest access. Otherwise, my ES Explorer still have not any reaction on tapping on shared folder which is made without «Guest access».

I want to notice, that this is strange, that I need to edit config file for proper working.

That appears to be a problem with ES File Explorer.

I created a share of my Public folder and set to to not allow guest access but make it writeable. I then did a scan from Android:

May I ask why you are using Beta level software. Mint 18 has not been released yet. I did my experiment on Uubuntu 16.04 which Mint 18 should be based on since I don’t run Beta software normally.

Because, I just want to test Mint and tell to community about that issue with sharing, and then began to use stable release without bugs and problems.

Ubuntu with Unity is not good because, I dont like this solution with the top panel which transforms to menu panel of open application. In this case tabs of Chrome/Chromium are not on the top of the screen and I need to navigate it with mouse more carefully.

Xubuntu which I had used before Mint has own problems: for example dropbox icon not properly shown in panel near the clock. After updating Samba in April my shares in Xubuntu was broken and I need to know how it works in Mint.

Hello Linux ! I want to share files/folders/partition drive, on both PCs running Linux Mint 17.3 ?

I’m WINDOWS user and willing to switch to Linux with your help, please.

I’ve installed Linux Mint 17.3 on (1 desktop PC and on 1 notebook), both are at home internet router network.

I want to share files/folders/partition drive, on both PCs running Linux Mint 17.3 ?

I guess after searching online of how to do that, I believe I’ve made a miss on both PCs .
NOW, I can see both PCs name from each PC under Nemo (Network). I’ve set up one folder as (sharing folder) on PC1. now trying to access that folder from PC2, by clicking the PC1 name will not open it. It shows this message: ( Unable to mount location Failed to retrieve share list from server: Connection refused ).

I’m very sure SAMBA is installed and running YES (on both PCs).

Hope LINUX team will make it simple !

In case this helps anyone I had a strange issue with 18.2 mate and caja. I thought I had shared folders on 2 machines (Same s/w setup) but after a reboot shares vanished on one machine but remained as set on the other. I found that if I went file system/home/user and opened each folder as administrator I could share them but those shares then vanished when I closed the window and opened it again normally. I could not then share those folders although one folder below was still showing shared.
