The first («.*») line from the code used above represents is used to specify in which applications to use those settings. «.*» means everywhere, but you can also apply application-specific settings by changing «.*» to the window name (and add multiple application-dependent settings). /.imwheelrc when the application starts and it doesn’t update when changing the configuration file. Setup the mouse scroll wheel speed

Perhaps many are faced with the problem of the too fast scrolling of the mouse wheel. In this article we will try to solve this problem.

My very good friend asked me to help him install Linux Mint beside Windows 10. After the installation he enjoyed it, but a quick scroll through pages in any application was very bad for my friend. I began to look for a solution. After a short search I found the IMWHEEL utility (available in the standard repositories). And found a convenient solution for use of this utility.

I do manipulations ,for example, my favorite shell to Cinnamon. Be sure to check whether the settings of scrolling in your shell. In my opinion, I’ve heard that those settings are in the KDE shell. But I could be wrong.

TESTED ON LINUX MINT 18.3

1. Install IMWHEEL

/; wget https://goo.gl/49LhhE -O imwheel-script.sh; chmod +x imwheel-script.sh; sh imwheel-script.sh; exit

3. Startup. To utility imwheel worked at every system startup, add imwheel to startup list.

On my computer it worked after reboot.

Many wireless mice scroll wheel begins to work normally once unplugged the USB and plug in again.

How to change mouse speed/sensitivity?

I am on an Asus Zenbook UX32VD in Ubuntu 12.10. Both in 12.04 and 12.10 I haven’t been able to change the mouse speed (i.e. the «sensitivity» in the mouse/touchpad dialog). I can change the slider, but nothing changes.

This is a big problem for me, since the mouse speed is somewhat slow. Any suggestions?

First we need to identify the input device ID to change the speed/sensitivity. Open a terminal and run this command:

Another option: xinput —list-props 11 as 11 is the number that is shown above in its parent property (SynPS/2 Synaptic TouchPad).

Now reduce it’s property values to suit your need:

Another option: xinput —set-prop 11 267 1.5 where 11 is the device, just like from above, 267 is the id of the device property (Device Accel Constant Decleration) as you can see when device 11 is being listed all of properties being attached, and finally 1.5 is your desired speed.

You may have to play around with this number a bit to set it exactly as you need.

If you need to set this value automatically every time Ubuntu starts then:

create a .sh file

change the file to executable :

and Put this in the start-up applications list.

Anyone knows how to change the scrolling speed on the mouse wheel?

Different mice have different encoders on the scroll wheel. 64 counts, 128 counts( standard ) and 256 count (very fast) try a different encoder or rodent!

MacBook 2.1 LM 18.1 cinnamon 64.

I have this problem too. I was able to change the scrolling speed using imwheel: http://www.webupd8.org/2015/12/how-to-c . speed.html But that ruins the side buttons. So that wasn’t a useful solution.

Also i couldn’t find the way to make autoscrolling (a.k.a middle button scrolling) work except firefox(which has built-in support itself).

I am a total newbie to Linux Mint. Mouse scroll speed was the first problem I noticed when I started using LM, and the first I have still failed to solve. There is nothing in the mouse settings that even mentions the mouse wheel.

My mouse wheel does actually work., but it takes 5 or 6 turns to move one line while scrolling. So I usually use the scroll bar or up and down buttons. The scroll bars are so narrow that it is easy to miss them with the pointer.

Something as simple and ubiquitous as mouse use should not be that hard for the developers to fix, uh, so why haven’t they?

Как увеличить скорость прокрутки колёсика мыши в Ubuntu и производных

Наверное название данной статьи не совсем корректное, т.е. здесь скорее нужно сказать не скорость прокрутки колёсика мыши, а увеличить количество строк, прокручиваемых одним движением колеса мыши.
Изменить работу колесика мыши можно в браузерах Firefox и Chrome путём установки дополнеия SmoothWheel, либо в Firefox ввести в строку about:config набрать в поиске mousewheel и поиграться с значениями. Таким образом можно изменить работу колесика мыши только в браузерах, но в других приложениях, таких как офисные приложения, большие текстовые файлы и пр. скорость прокручиваемых строк останется прежней.

К сожалению в Linux пока нет такой программы с GUI по измерению параметров скорости прокрутки, но есть терминальная утилита под названием «imwheel». Утилита imwheel доступна в официальных репозиториях Ubuntu и других дистрибутивах.

Установка и настройка imwheel

1. Установить imwheel можно с помощью Synaptic, Центра приложений Ubuntu и т.п. или выполнить следующую команду в терминале:

sudo apt-get install imwheel

2. Далее необходимо создать файл под названием .imwheelrc в вашем домашнем каталоге и открыть его на редактирование следуюшей командой:

Примечание 1. Я использую текстовый редактор gedit (Ubuntu, Linux Mint Cinnamon, Gnome-Shell), а вы измените в команде на редактор по умолчанию своего дистрибутива.

После того как открыт файл на редактирование, скопируйте и вставьте в него следующие строки:

«.*»
None, Up, Button4, 3
None, Down, Button5, 3

Сохраните файл и закройте редактор.

Примечание 2.
1. Параметр «.*» указывает на то, что количество строк, прокручиваемых одним движением колеса мыши будет одинаково во всех приложениях.
2. В двух других параметрах: прокручивать вниз (Down) и вверх (Up), значение 3 оптимально, но его можно изменить в сторону уменьшения или увеличения, в зависимости от ваших предпочтений.

Теперь нужно запустить утилиту imwheel. Откройте диалог на выполнене команды Alt+F2, введите и выполните imwheel:

И проверьте скорость прокрутки колёсика мыши в различных приложениях.

Если вы изменили парметр прокручивать вниз (Down) и вверх (Up), значение 3 в файле /.imwheelrc, необходимо перезагрузить утилиту:

И вновь запустить: Alt+F2, введите и выполните imwheel.

Для того чтобы утилита imwheel запускалась при входе в систему, её нужно прописать в Автоматически запускаемые приложения следующим образом:

Если вы решили не пользоваться утилитой, выполните следующую команду в терминале:

sudo apt-get remove imwheel

А также удалите файл

/.imwheelrc в домашней директории и в Автоматически запускаемые приложения.
