Logitech g19 driver linux
I run DiRT Rally on Steam on Linux (PopOS 18.10 which is a fork of Ubuntu) and recently got the Logitech G29 fully working (FFB, H-Shifter, Clutch) and wanted to do a quick write up here to help anyone else who might need help.
0) Start with your wheel powered up but the USB connection unplugged.
1) Set your Logitech G29 to PS3 mode, not PS4 mode. In PS4 mode the wheel will be detected by Steam as a controller and DiRT Rally will consider it a normal PS4 controller, not a racing wheel. You won’t be able to get all the features working properly in PS4 mode.
2) Connect your wheel via USB
4) Go Steam -> Settings -> Controller -> General Controller Settings
Make sure you see «Logitech G29 Driving Force Racing Wheel» under «Detected Controllers:»
If you do, move on to step 5.
If you see something like «PS4 controller» or «Generic Controller», the wheel will not work properly.
Exit Steam, disconnect the USB, restart the PC, connect the USB, and try again. I’m not completely sure how to «clear» controller settings/configurations, but you need to get Steam in a state where it is detecting the G29 as a racing wheel and not a console controller.
5) If you’re here, you’ll be able to use your wheel, the accelerator and the brake, but not the clutch or shifter. You will also not have access to the extended FFB settings.
In order to enable that (the location may vary for you, but this is where it was for me):
Add the following code to
6) Start up DiRT Rally. Go to «Options & Extras» -> Controls.
For «Steer Left» & «Steer Right» you should see Left and Right with a steering wheel icon; in «Vibration & Feedback» you should see a lot of options, like «Steering Center Force».
If you see something like «X-Axis» for «Steer Left» & «Steer Right» then you’re still in «Console controller» mode and not Racing wheel mode. Also if you only see 3 options in Vibration & Feeback, you are still in Console Controller mode. Exit DiRT Rally and make sure that you added the JSON in step 5 correctly, and try again.
7) Go to Profile -> Game Preferences. You should now be able to select options with «Manual H Pattern» and «+ Clutch»
Note- when using the G29 in PS3 mode, the shift lights will not work.
I hope this helps anyone out there who was having trouble.

Logitech G19 Linux support
This is work in progress and considered absolutely alpha. It SHOULD work, but no guarantees are given. If your keyboard goes up in flames, explodes and rapes your hamster, don’t say I didn’t warn you!
What you need to use this
Python 2.6 pyusb (I’m using v0.4.2 atm)
optional: xplanet PySide (not yet)
What I wanted to do
Refactor and build an API+framework for applets. Developers will get a simple way to create mini-programs of any kind. An infrastructure providing a base menu to select/activate applets and easy possibilities to integrate into input handling will created.
So far it does not make much sense to start developing on the current code base (as I just started to create this one week ago). As soon as I stopped experimenting, I’ll change this file.
What it does right now
If invoked by «python main.py»:
By selecting M1..3 you select red/green/blue for manipulation. Using the scroll you can adjust the current backlight value.
If no M-button is selected, scrolling will change the display brightness.
If you have ‘xplanet’ installed, you can press the «play»/»stop» buttons to rotate the earth in your display.
(After pressing start, 360 images will be generated using as many CPUs as you have, but nonetheless it will take up to three minutes.)
Currently I am working on supporting Qt on the display — let’s see how far I get.
How you can send anything you want to your G19
Fire up a python shell. The main API is logitech.g19.G19 atm:
if you get an error: lg19 = G19(True)
setting backlight to red
fill your display with green
test your screen
set backlight to blue after reset
this will be your backlight color after a bus reset (or switching the keyboard off and on)
send an image to display
load an arbitrary image from disk to display (will be resized non-uniform)
reset the keyboard via USB
now you have to rebuild the connection:
HINT: After creating a G19 object, your «light key» will not work anymore, because the keyboard waits for you to read its data. You can start doing so by calling lg19.start_event_handling(). (have a look at main.py)
drhexgit pointed out he had to do the following changes to display an image:

Support for Logitech G19 Keyboard
Hello, I am contemplating buying a Logitech G19 Gaming Keyboard for it’s screen, and was wondering about Ubuntu support. 8.10 is my main OS, Windows only booted once in a blue moon to play games. I was wondering about the support of the advanced things this keyboard can do on Linux. When searching for G19 Linux drivers, G19 Linux, and more, all I found was that the keyboard’s LCD ran embedded Linux. I was wondering if Wine could do such thing, or if I need to use something else such as Cedega or CrossOver to do it, or if it’s impossible to use a «not emulator» to run it, and if it needs to be a native Linux application. If anyone can find an API of sorts that can be used to get support running, I would be happy to use what little knowledge of programming that I have to get it running.
Re: Support for Logitech G19 Keyboard
I have a G19 and I can tell you that right now it’s not worth it for linux . You can also read what I wrote here: http://www.linuxcompatible.org/g19_c14051.html — the only thing I can say is that as long as there are no drivers for it, it works as a normal keyboard and that you can get a default white backlight if you want.
There are G15 drivers but they’re not compatible.
Re: Support for Logitech G19 Keyboard
Thanks for your reply. I just might get it anyway, but probably not as I rarely boot into Windows.
Re: Support for Logitech G19 Keyboard
Using it (must have pyusb installed) you can control everything on your keyboard from setting backlight color to uploading images to your display.

Welcome to the Saitek/Logitech Community!
At this time we do not have plans to develop drivers for OS other than Windows. With MacOS and Linux the devices will typically be recognized by the OS and install a default driver that will give you basic functionality of the devices, but you will not have access to the software to customize the device settings.
If you need any additional assistance, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
?If this reply adequately addresses your issue, please mark it as ?Select as Best? and click ?Like?, so this information can benefit other community members.
Logi_Richard, I completely agree with you. Particualrly for devices which support UVC, it’s not really up to Logitech to write «drivers» in the traditional sense.
However, If I could offer one suggestion to Logitech, it would be to help your users understand the state of support for UVC on the different platforms, as it’s very difficult if not impossible to find any reliable information on this subject out on the web
For example, which version of Windows and Mac OS X introduced support for UVC 1.0, 1.1, and 1.5? What’s the state of such support on the current versions of those operating systems?
Is it, indeed, the case that UVC 1.5 has some limited capabilities (detection only) on Linux at this time? Is Logitech aware of any active effort to further this development, or is it stalled as far as anyone can tell?
What’s the roadmap for UVC post-1.5 in the future?
I have had no problems getting basic functionality with Flight Gear. It immediately picked up my yoke, throttle/mix, and rudder. But yes, it would be kind of nice to do things like use more than just the stopwatch timer in the middle of the yoke. (BTW. not so accurate, it counted one minute thirty-four seconds for one minute real time.
Please, do software for Linux! You’re a mega-company, I love you’re products, but come on! How could you ignore that out there there are as many macOS users as Linux users? plus MacOS users use at 99.99% their ****** «magic mouse», Linux users have to buy one as PC users do. Why are you so close-minded about it? Make it open source so everyone can compile it at least! A bunch of medium-class developers can do it in a week, it’s not sci-fi! I’m losing my faith in you.
Yes come one Logitech it’s 2018 Get a driver for Ubuntu at least.
It’s either stick with «Windows» and have a full functioning mouse and bad OS
Or Linux and a default mouse.
The third option that many are choosing — and I’m thinking off too is;
Get a linux friendly mouse and get rid of MS and Logitech in one fell swoop
i am also sick of this B******t. i have a whole array of Logitech stuff & none of it is fit for purpose .
i will NEVER use Logitech again & will never recommend it to Anyone .
very expensive Rubbish . this is the 21st century .
@fuck you? Did you have your arms folded, stamping your feet before you wrote that?
All, I am also a frustrated Logitech/Linux user. Please sign this petition to encourage Logitech to Support Linux:
I have been on the Logitech fan bench for 10+ years. I recently moved to Linux and I feel extremely disappointed that there is no support for ANY of the Logitech products on any Linux distribution. But of course, Mac is supported. Goodbye, Logitech, it is a shame that you are happy to lose customers due to such a small thing.
Is there like an ETA on this? I want use my peripherals on Linux too, Mac trackpads are not as smooth o Linux. or Windows. Please stop pumping out product and finish support for your existing lineup. Since I’m here already, also mark the receivers with a some random number of something, I have a ton of keyboards and I can never find the matching receiver. IDK why only Apple has Bluetooth peripherals as standard and nobody has followed them on the last few good ideas they had. ??
We need Linux support ASAP
Steam Play and Proton are on Linux what the f are you waiting for Logitech?
Reddit Ubuntu Logitech thread:
Luckily my G703 mouse and powerplay mat work fine in Mint 19, I understand it to be because the 703 mouse has its own memory inside, of which i programmed in win 10, but im sure if i would have had only Mint, it would be another story, and I would surely have run into problems.
The mouse charges on the wireless mat, in Mint, but i cannot check to see how much charge it has, or go in and reprogram the mouse if i would like other settings, because there is no software to show and let me do that, so for that i have to log back to windows.
So conclusion Logitech, Its 2019, its time to see that more of us are moving to different distros, because they are slowly but surely catching up to windows in user friendlyness. Its time to get on the Train my friends.
Allthough it is ok for now, and I use both OS, but the more time goes, and Linux grows, It will become obsolete to even have windows installed at all, and then my friends buying a new Logitech will also become obsolete if there is no support.

Logitech G19 Keyboard [solved]
Logitech G19 Keyboard [solved]
Post by Baumstark » Thu Dec 17, 2015 12:59 pm
new Linux-Mint user here. I am using Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon 64bit
Anyone out there with a logitech g19 keyboard, having the LCD/LED working?
Appearently the Gnome 15 Project managed to get both working. Unfortunately the project seems to be inactive these days and a lof of the files are down / not accessible anymore. I managed to download the required deb files from here. However, when I tried to install the first main package, I get an error saying that the required package python-uinput was not installed (I have the requiered python version 2.7 installed). So I went ahead and got the package from here. I think it installed fine, it didn’t give me any error messages.
Still when I try to install the gnome15 deb again, it still tells me that the dependency python-uinput is missing.
That’s how far I got.
Basically I would just like to get the LED colored keys working, I don’t care so much about the LCD screen. So if there is any other method besides gnome15, that’s fine too.
I appreciate any help I can get. Thanks in advance

Welcome to the wonderful world of Linux Mint and its excellent forum !
It would help to have more specific system setup information, see FYI below.
Gnome15 — linux desktop integration for Logitech G Hardware
https://gnome15.org/
To install this, open a console terminal, type in, or copy & paste, each line below one by one:
Create a «tmp» folder in your «/home» folder, if you do not already have one, before continuing these instructions:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install make git build-essential
Related articles, programs, and posts:
G15daemon (easy install «.deb» file) provides support for the G15 keyboard. Multiple LCD clients are supported with a ‘virtual’ LCD buffer for applications or libraries, and all keys are usable. Users flip through connected screens with a press of a button.Linux, OS-X & Solaris

* not sure this is still active* Configure Logitech G Series Keyboards In Ubuntu With Gnome15, Now Available In A PPA
http://www.webupd8.org/2010/10/configur . oards.html
FYI: It would help everyone here to have more information about your system’s setup: like what edition and version of Linux Mint are you using, Cinnamon, Mate, KDE (my favorite), or Xfce; version 17, 17.1, 17.2, 17.3, or What?; 32-bit or 64-bit? Some more information about your hardware would be useful as well. You can get this information from top of your system menu’s Welcome screen, System Information program(s), and the best is by typing in » inxi -Fxz» from a console terminal prompt, which you can then copy and paste back here. This information helps anyone here in this forum to be able to answer any questions you may have better , thanks. You can even add this information (abbreviated) to your signature using the control panel link in the above left of this forum screen; then when you post a question or reply to one, that info will automatically be there, ex: see mine and others below their posts.

hey phd21, thanks and sorry for not adding any system information!
I’m using Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon 64bit. I will add more information later. I don’t have access to the linux machine right now.
wow, quick edit there. thanks a lot! I will try this out later today!

thank you very much for your help.
I tried the manual installation before (and to be sure, now again), but at the point «./configure» I just get the error «folder or file not found». I checked that it downloaded correctly and that I was in the right folder etc.
I have a feeling that I’m missing something but I can’t quite figure out what. The package git build-essential installed correctly too.
Unfortunately the g15tools/g15daemon only work with the Logitech G15 keyboard. The repository from the last link is appearently not compatible with my version of linux mint. Damn!
There seem to be so many ways, yet I can’t get any of them to work

Looks like a really nice keyboard. But, I do not have one, so I cannot install this. I tried to compile it as well, but got the same error.
Have you tried installing the «g15daemon» anyway to see if it would work? You can always remove if it does not.

Did you see these links below, because it does show that the «G19» keyboard is supported (see hardware link below). How to get it to work, I still do not know, perhaps these links may help further that. You can also peruse the forums too.
You might try contacting the developers and maintainers of this as well
Hardware Support
Model Matrix — Find the drivers that matches your model and look them up in the driver list below.
* it does show the G19 is spported *
https://gnome15.org/help-documentation/ . e-support/
PyLibG19 is the basis for G19 support in Gnome15. It is mostly based on MultiCoreNop’s’ Logitech-G19-Linux-Daemon which is available from link below, but with a few additions and bug-fixes.
Download the «zip» file to your «tmp» folder and unzip and compile.
https://github.com/MultiCoreNop/Logitec . nux-Daemon
It is used in two ways. Firstly, the new g19direct driver uses it to do away with the need for g19d. It does however mean you have to make the keyboard’s USB device files writable. Secondly, it is used by g19d which runs as root and so doesn’t need special permissions.
https://gnome15.org/help-documentation/pylibg19/
Pre-requisites
You will need all of these to compile or run G19D. If you use a package for your distribution, these will be downloaded for you. If you wish to compile from source, you will have to obtain and install them yourself. These are in the Software Manager or Synaptic Package Manager (SPM)
Python – Programming language. PyLibG19 was developed with Python 2.6 (install «python» and «python3»)
Python Image Library – Used for the splash screen. (install «python-pil» and «python3-pil»)
PyUSB – Python USB bindings. (install «pyusb»)
Help & Documentation — see sub projects at bottom too

Good Luck and keep us posted on your progress .
Hope this helps .

thanks again very much for your kind help. Unfortunately, all the gnome15.org links give me a 404 error at the moment. Maybe someone is reorganizing the site. I know for a fact that these links were working just a day ago, since I’ve tried them before.
I think I have tried every script / daemon there is right now. The closest I got was to a short flickering of the keyboard lights and the LCD, just to get an «index out of range» error in the used python script. One automatic «G19 Installer» even wrecked my whole system so I had to reinstall (fortunately I hadn’t been too much into personalizing everything). I think the installer wasn’t meant to be used with Linux Mint or Ubuntu at all. This has taught me a lesson though, I made a full backup of my linux-mint harddrive this time
So I think for now I’ll just let it be and check on the gnome15 project from time to time. Hopefully it’ll come back alive.
Thank you again for your friendly welcome. Everything is working now except for the G19 keyboard, and so far I am quite happy with Linux Mint and I am having a very good Linux experience
Re: Logitech G19 Keyboard

You are most welcome.
Yesterday, I was on their site and it seemed to be working.
I love Linux Mint and its excellent forum, everyone involved has done a superb job! When I left MS Windows awhile back I was not that familiar with Unix and Linux systems, although very experienced with computers and Ms Windows. After some diligent research and some testing, I found Linux Mint and their wonderful editions, and have been using them happily ever since.
It is rare to have some computer hardware not work, but it does happen. I do think there is a way to get this really nice keyboard’s extras features of yours fully, or mostly working, we just have not figured it out yet. The regular basic keyboard functions work don’t they? Have you perused their forums and made a forum post, and emailed them about your situation, because if I were you, I would. When I get a chance, I will do the same. Obviously, it would be really beneficial for Logitech to finally start fully supporting Linux and Linux Mint directly because the Linux Mint, and Linux, user base is increasing quickly and will continue to do so. I really like Logitech products and I have been using them for many years, and I have wireless and wired Logitech keyboards and mice, and a webcam, all fully working well using Linux Mint, but not with Logitech’s software and drivers.
As for backing up, well that is always a smart move especially before installing system and hardware drivers and or major updates and upgrades. Even though it is hard to crash a system completely where it requires a re-install, it can be done, especially when installing certain hardware drivers and certain software. A lot of people do not realize that even if your system crashes, if you have written down your last steps, and last install instructions, you can usually reverse them from a console terminal prompt, and just reboot to «recovery mode» to get back up and running without a re-install. There are some excellent programs to help protect and recover from this: Timeshift, SystemBack, Backintime, Aptik, and of course a good hard drive image backup program like «Clonezilla Live», and a good external hard drive.
Hope this helps .

Okay, I think I have some good information and links for you.
First, I cannot access their main website today either.
But, I did a lot more in-depth research.
Apparently, there has been a lot of movement where these files are stored, websites that are up and down, etc..
I found the files necessary to get this working, I think. But you may have to «trial and error» them to see which will work. I would read all the links below as well before doing anything. In the Software Manager or Synaptic Package Manager (SPM) are «G15» programs which I would install all of those first, then you may only need to install the G19 related libraries, «pylibg19». (the other python programs I mentioned before and «python-evdev» should be installed first). To cover all bases, I would also install the few KDE programs below. Then, I would download and try to compile and install the G15 «master.zip» from here which does contain the «pylibg19» files: https://github.com/achilleas-k/gnome15. Afterwards, restart (reboot). Then, if that doesn’t work, I also found 3 articles below where nice users had all the easy to install «.deb» files (15 of them) for this, that they shared (see links below), but no directions on which to install first, so trial and error on that, try largest file first, if necessary.
Personally I would also install the few KDE programs below (unless you are using KDE) as well which will not hurt any linux mint edition, in fact it will enhance it
Hey, I got the same problem. Somewhere out in the ether I found the libraries. I wrapped the deb-packages together as gnome15.tar.bz2. You can download them from here: http://ul.to/89bvcvju
Currently I’m working with elementaryOS (based on Ubuntu) and it works like a charm.

I use Logitech G19 keyboard, G13 Gameboard, G700 and G5 mouse with my Mint 15. With Gnome15 the keyboards work flawless. The G700 mouse I configured in an old XP box. The G700 store up to five profiles, when configured, can be used on any system, driver or not.
