What is sLyrics?

Have you ever found yourself lost between lines of lyrics while you listen to music?

You want to read the lyrics but it’s too much trouble to google every song.

sLyrics is a lyrics search and display software for iTunes on Mac OS X written in Java that will solve your problems.

Search automatically as iTunes plays

Automatically search online for matching lyrics when iTunes palys a new song.

Search on multiple servers

You can search manually if no lyrics are found on the default server.
You can choose from 3 different servers and search with different criteria.

Highlight current line

Scroll to and highlight the current line that is being played in iTunes.

Adjust offset

Sometimes the lyrics downloaded from the sever may be a little too fast or too slow. You can fix the problem by adjusting the offset of the lyrics.

Up : decrease the offset by 0.25 sec
Down : increase the offset by 0.25 sec

Change font style with ease

You can change the font size and color of text easily from the preference window. Shortcuts are provided to change the font size.

Command + : increase the font size
Command — : decrease the font size

Full screen support

Enter or exit full screen mode by double clicking on the lyrics area or using the shortcut Command & Enter.

Copy & Export

You can save the current lyrics to disk or copy it to the clipboard.
When you copy the lyrics, you can choose to copy it with timestamp or as plain text.

Inaccurate Lyrics (needs a better database)

The actual operaion so far seems fine. I wanted to use it to actually download the lyrics for offline use on the iPhone but now I’m not bothering because the lyrics found on my test song are wrong (run around instead of run aground). The point of having lyrics is to find out what the artist is singing when you can’t make it out. They pretty much need to be authoratative or don’t bother (or have a flag for those that are user added and not checked by anybody). Great that it’s opensource and on github — maybe I’ll learn how to point it to a better database and then I’d give it 5 stars.

Needs more Help options

I’m not a programmer and «git» does not help with some instructions. Most of the lyrics are in Chinese or don’t translate correctly. No idea how to set the «offset», I can’t seem to delete the characters to show only the English lyrics. What alternative saving path is available? What is the lyrics filter and how does it work? I have to set up the Preferences every time that I load Music. iTunes doesn’t seem to save the set and LyricsX has no source (that I can find) to save the selections you make. So, the settings have to be saved each time you open the app, even if it is set to open when iTunes Music opens. I like the app, but there are too many things that are not explained and no instructions seem to exist, unless you want to «git» and I don’t know how to git.

Thanks for this awesome app! Works great >90% of the time. Some times the lyrics are a little off but usually not by much. I only have one request: please fix the auto write to iTunes feature. Patch notes say this has been fixed, but still doesn’t work for me. Perhaps bc of the upgrade to MacOS Catalina?

Edit: the auto-write seems to be fixed! Here’s your 5th star — this app is the total package.

Description

DesktopLyrics is an application that displays the lyrics of the song currently playing in «iTunes» right on your desktop. DesktopLyrics features numerous options to customize lyrics display to your liking. Please note that you have to enter or obtain lyrics to be able to use DesktopLyrics (see section ‘Limitations’ below).

LYRICS DISPLAY
DesktopLyrics does not only display the lyrics but can also display the information about the current song (e.g. title) in a customizable manner. Additionally, you can opt to display the artwork of the song too (if available). DesktopLyrics allows you to define the font, size, color and shadows for the lyrics and for the song-information separately, so that the lyrics exactly match your taste and desktop picture.

PAGE SYSTEM
Long lyrics that can’t be displayed at once are automatically cut into multiple «pages». You can turn the pages with small buttons embedded into the lyrics display, turn them with hot-key combinations or just have them turned automatically. There is an advanced option for defining the time-code of the page turning.

NETWORK LYRICS
You can also display the lyrics of the music playing on your Mac on several other Macs, iPhones and iPads (via an additional in-app purchase).

LYRICS SHARING
DesktopLyrics features options to share the current lyrics with your friends by e-mail or by posting them to FaceBook or Twitter. You can also copy them to the clipboard or printing the lyrics.

EXTENSIVE OPTIONS
In addition to the exhaustive settings to customize the lyrics appearance, DesktopLyrics also features a host of options to change its behavior to be as practical as possible. You can display DesktopLyrics in the menubar instead of the Dock, use hot-key combinations to operate it, or change the behavior in case iTunes is paused or the lyrics are empty. Additionally you easily search the internet for missing lyrics, use «Python» scripts to post-process the lyrics to your liking (e.g. to clean or translate them), toggle the lyrics visibility on-the-fly or use the convenient ‘presentation-mode’ which hides other apps to focus on the lyrics.

*** LIMITATIONS ***
The lyrics for the song have to be set in iTunes, DesktopLyrics does nothing to fetch lyrics if they aren’t available in iTunes. Consult the documentation for help with obtaining lyrics. Note that DesktopLyrics only works with locally stored music and not with streaming like ‘Apple Music’ or ‘iTunes Match’.
