Question: Q: Can’t connect M-Audio Fast Track Ultra 8R

I am trying to connect my m-audio fast track ultra 8r to logic pro but it won’t work. It recognises that something is plugged in and the m-audio reacts to sounds into the microphone but it will only record from built-in microphone. I looked it up and you’re supposed to press Logic pro X > Control Surfaces > Setup, but there is no «Control Surfaces» when i press Logic Pro X.

Below are two pictures: the first one is from the instruction of what i’m supposed to press and the second one is from my own Logic Pro X. They seem to have removed control surfaces from mine. I have the latest Macbook Pro and the latest Logic Pro X.

I would very much appreciate some help since i have a great urge to start recording. Thank you.

Logic Pro X, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

We don’t really have the same problem though, my problem is that the buttons i’m supposed to press aren’t there. I have OS X Yosemite, maybe the update has a different way of doing it, but i can’t figure it out.

You sent me to a site that said it’s supposed to look like this first picture, but in my logic it looks like the second picture.

So, change the input and output device?

You have Built-In-Output and Built-In-Microphone selected. Click and Hold over the top of the selection and see if the Ultra 8r is listed as a device.

The pic you posted is exactly where you set the I/O devices for Logic.

Are you saying the 8r isn’t listed as an option.

Here’s the Driver page.

Support is way behind the curve, typical for Avid.

If you’ve already installed the latest drivers. unplug the Ultra 8r and install the previous set of drivers (from October 2014_ reboot the computer, after it settles then plug in the Ultra 8r, if that doesn’t work. follow the exact same procedure with the latest set of drivers. It’s important to not have the Ultra 8r plugged in when installing drivers.

YAAAY, IT’S WORKING!! thank you so much for helping me. you are a kind person and i wish you all the best!!

Thanks for posting the issue. I’m having the same issue. I’ve downloaded driver version 2.3.2 and continue having the same issue — even after unplugging and replugging the power to the Fat Track Ultra, restarting the computer, closing and reopening Logic X. What is it I’m missing?

Thanks in advance!

The latest driver is 2.3.3 Try that but follow my directions exactly. (also, what model computer)

Unplug the 8R, reboot the computer

Install the latest 8r drivers (do not plug the 8r back in yet)

reboot the computer and let it settle a minute or two

plug the 8r back in.

I have an iMac with OS X El Capitan. It’s after I dowloaded and installed El Capitan that the M-Audio disappeared from Logic X. I did as you said and I still don’t see it appearing in Logic. What else can I do?

Oct 12, 2015 1:42 PM

What else can you do? Not much.

Hope that M-Audio releases drivers for El Capitan or that the next release of El Capitan fixes some of the problems. You should definitely contact M-Audio about updated drivers for El Capitan.

In the meantime, I hope you backed up your system so you can roll back to the previous operating system that worked. Why do people automatically upgrade without checking to see if your hardware is compatible? It makes no sense. someone else posted that they were in the middle of a large project and upgraded to El Capitan and their hardware doesn’t work and Logic is crashing. You CANNOT rely on Apple releasing fully compatible (or even complete) operating systems these days, they change a lot as Apple is trying to bring iOS and OSX under a single development platform. Apple’s latest operating systems have been release in Beta test form, it’s never wise to upgrade without checking. If you want to be on the cutting edge, prepare to bleed.

Thanks for the help. I never upgrade without checking compatibility, but it bit me this time.

Does anyone know if M-Audio has released drivers for El Capitan yet? I held of on installing El Capitan after i read that it wasn’t compatible with M-Audio, but they should fix that eventually, right?

M-Audio Fast Track USB isn’t found by Mac?

spook2517

First things first I am still new to Mac, so hopefully I have just overlooked something. I have an older M-Audio Fast Track USB that I used to use on my PC, and would now like to use on my Mac. I have installed Pro Tools properly, have my I-Lok inserted and the hardware is hooked up the same as it was before. I have downloaded the newest drivers from M-Audio. When trying to start the program I get an error message.

The exact error message is as follows.
Unable to locate M-Audio hardware. Make sure your hardware is connected and turned on.

Any ideas, thanks.

RE:

Just a couple of thoughts:

1. Launch Audio/MIDI setup (in your Utilities folder). Does it «see» the Fast Track? If not, check the popup menus to see if the Fast Track is available. Is it? If so, choose it, then go back to ProTools and see if the device now appears.

2. If the Fast Track isn’t showing up in Audio/MIDI setup, choose to «Add a new device». The choice to add one will be up in your menu bar somewhere, depending on which version of Audio/MIDI Setup that you’re using. You may even have to do this under the «MIDI» menu. Give that a try. Once this is done, again try to designate the Fast Track as your input/output device using the popup menus (see above).

3. If nothing else is working, I would suggest you try opening GarageBand and see if GB can see the Fast Track.

Again, just some thoughts.

Click the apple logo on the far upper left. Them select «about this mac». From there you can get to a list of all installed equipment. Expand the USB device to see the hub(s) and expend those to see what is plugged into each. Is your M-Audio device there?

The about this mac display works at a very low level that does not depend on hainb drivers or other software working. It will «see» even completely un-supported devices, anything that is physically connected.

So, if you don’t see it there it is not connected. Check for a broken cable, broken power supply (wall wort cube) overloaded hub or whatever.

If it does show up in the hardware list then your problem is with the software. Try other software. the first software to try is the Apple’s audio-midi setup

Also There was just a recently an upgrade to Mac OS X. M-Audio is slow to upgrade drivers the typically months behind Apple make sure yue driver matche the relese of Mac OS X
