Stay up to date with latest software releases, news, software discounts, deals and more.
Each software is released under license type that can be found on program pages as well as on search or category pages. Here are the most common license types:
Freeware
Freeware programs can be downloaded used free of charge and without any time limitations. Freeware products can be used free of charge for both personal and professional (commercial use).
Open Source
Open Source software is software with source code that anyone can inspect, modify or enhance. Programs released under this license can be used at no cost for both personal and commercial purposes. There are many different open source licenses but they all must comply with the Open Source Definition — in brief: the software can be freely used, modified and shared.
Free to Play
This license is commonly used for video games and it allows users to download and play the game for free. Basically, a product is offered Free to Play (Freemium) and the user can decide if he wants to pay the money (Premium) for additional features, services, virtual or physical goods that expand the functionality of the game. In some cases, ads may be show to the users.
Demo programs have a limited functionality for free, but charge for an advanced set of features or for the removal of advertisements from the program’s interfaces. In some cases, all the functionality is disabled until the license is purchased. Demos are usually not time-limited (like Trial software) but the functionality is limited.
Trial
Trial software allows the user to evaluate the software for a limited amount of time. After that trial period (usually 15 to 90 days) the user can decide whether to buy the software or not. Even though, most trial software products are only time-limited some also have feature limitations.
Usually commercial software or games are produced for sale or to serve a commercial purpose.

Can I Run Pidgin on Mac OS X?
Q. Can I install and run Pidgin instant messaging client under Mac OS X operating system?
A. Short answer – yes, if you can compile and install X server / GTK+ on Mac OS X.
Long answer – Pidgin (Gaim) is a multi-platform instant messaging client. The software has limited support for many commonly used instant messaging protocols. You need to compile and install an X server, GTK+ and its dependencies yourself. You will not get native aqua interface including installer. I strongly suggest Adium, which is a free instant messaging application for Mac OS X that can connect to AIM, MSN, Jabber, Yahoo, and more.

Thanks, been looking for a MSN for Mac alternative. Seems like Adium is just what I need.
It is now also possible to run Pidgin nativly under MacOSX without any dependencies on X11 or similar.
bad thing about adium is that it wont work with the camara , does the pidgin work with the camara installed in mi mac?

Install
Pidgin
Windows
This version of Pidgin downloads an appropriate version of GTK. GTK is now installed locally for Pidgin, and not system-wide, thus Pidgin will not interfere with other GTK apps on your system.
If you would like to have GTK included in the installer, we have an offline installer that bundles everything except spell-checking dictionaries.
If you’re looking for a portable version that doesn’t need installation, we also have that available.
Linux
We do not provide pre-built packages for Linux and Unix distributions. We recommend installing Pidgin using your operating system’s standard package management tool.
If your operating system doesn’t provide a pre-built package, or if their pre-built package is out of date and you want to upgrade, then you can try building from source.
Debian/Ubuntu
FreeBSD
macOS
For a native macOS experience we recommend Adium, which uses libpurple (the core of Pidgin) for much of its protocol support.
If you’re sure you want to use Pidgin on macOS, you may find the packages provided through Homebrew, pkgin, Fink or Macports more convenient than compiling from source. Please note, we do not provide support for issues related to installing Homebrew, pkgin, Fink, Macports, or their packages of Pidgin. Contact those projects directly with questions or concerns.
If you’re sure you want to use Pidgin on macOS and you don’t want to use Homebrew, Fink or Macports, you can download the Pidgin source and compile.
Source
This download is for the source code of Pidgin 2.14.7.
If you want to use Pidgin, you should either download and use our Windows installer or look for pre-built packages from your operating system distribution.
If you are looking to modify Pidgin, you may want to look at our instructions for contributing code from our repository.
Older versions
If you need binaries for older versions of Pidgin, visit our package repository main page. That is also where you can find the checksums for each file and their corresponding gpg signatures.
Finch
Finch is a text-based IM client written in C which uses the ncurses toolkit.
Linux
We do not provide pre-built packages for Linux and Unix distributions. We recommend installing Pidgin using your operating system’s standard package management tool.
If your operating system doesn’t provide a pre-built package, or if their pre-built package is out of date and you want to upgrade, then you can try building from source.

Mac os для pidgin
MacOS integration plugin for Pidgin
Pidgin is a multiprotocol communicator based on libPurple with GUI created using GTK+. There is no official support for macOS as there is an alternative written using native frameworks — Adium. Sadly, Adium seems to be nearly abandoned. It means that there is no native libPurple client for macOS. This plugin tries make Pidgin feel as native as it is possible.
I suggest to create app bundle (or use mine: Pidgin Bundle) for Pidgin as it adds dock icon and hides Terminal window. It’s REQUIRED for notifications and possible future translations to work properly.
Homebrew has a formula for gtk-chtheme which makes theme change easier — and macOS themes for GTK are easy to find.
There are currently following features implemented:
- Menu integration — all buddy list and conversation menus moved from window to menubar, moved standard macOS options: preferences, about to application menu.
- Notification Center integration — every message received shows native macOS notification and requests attention (jumping dock icon), plays configurable sound (currently only built-in seem to work).
- Built-in GTK shortcuts mapped to ⌘-based from ⌃-based (limited to built-in, not Pidgin-defined) through GTK OSX Application. Includes support for ⌘-Q (check issues section).
- Partial workaround for GTK2 Mojave rendering issues — Mojave changes AppKit’s redrawing logic and breaks some redraws for GTK2. In Pidgin it’s reflected by not refreshing conversation on tab switch and so on. More details
Plugin is written in Swift. As Pidgin is written in C, bridging is needed. That’s done by Objective-C to Swift bridge. Only things that are really hard or impossible to do via bridging (varargs functions, some type casting like callback registration) is done in Objective-C. It’s mostly just an ocasion for the author to learn Swift and Cocoa.

changelog
Versatile instant messaging desktop client that allows you to connect to accounts from various networks, such as AIM, ICQ, MSN, IRC, Yahoo, Jabber, and more.
Pidgin is an open source chat client that can connect to multiple networks, such as AIM, Google Talk, IRC, MSN, SIMPLE, Yahoo, Gadu Gadu, ICQ, MXit, SILC, XMPP, Bonjour, Groupwise, Zephyr, and Sametime.
Challenging to install chat client that comes with extensive protocol support
The latest Pidgin release is available for computers running macOS only as a source archive, so you will have to compile the application manually. There is also a binary macOS release available for download, but it will install an older Pidgin version.
However, it should be noted that you can also install Pidgin via the Homebrew, Fink or Macports package distribution systems, even though the developers do not provide support for these procedures. Using a package distribution system is preferable to a manual compilation because it will also download and install all required dependencies.
Unfortunately, while installing Pidgin via Macports certain packages could not be downloaded directly. In this case, to continue the installation procedure, you must manually download the respective dependencies packages and place the archives in the /opt/local/var/macports/distfiles directory (make sure to move them to the appropriate folder).
Login to multiple accounts and communicate with all your friends
Since Pidgin allows you to connect multiple instant messaging accounts, you will be able to send messages to all your friends, regardless of the network they are using.
In terms of functionality, Pidgin integrates most standard features one should expect from a chat client: you get to receive new message notifications, to use emoticons, to transfer files, and so on. Furthermore, you get to extend the app’s capabilities by installing additional plug-ins.
Versatile and user friendly chat client that can handle multiple accounts at the same time
All in all, if you are using multiple accounts to communicate with friends from different networks, the Pidgin chat client is a great way to bring them all together. The bad news is that Pidgin is running on the X11 window system, which means that the interface design might look a bit outdated.
What’s more, due to the complicated installation procedure, you should consider using the Adium app instead (it employs the same libpurple library on which Pidgin is based).
