ssh -nNTP *:9000:localhost:22 user@vps

ssh user@vps -p 9000

VLC is stopping me accessing my server pc via sftp.

Post by mickeyj4j » 24 Jun 2014 15:36

I have latest vlc Version 2.1.4 Rincewind (Intel 64bit) running on mac osx 10.9.3 mavericks
Hi all the other day i was happily able to ssh into my server computer from safari using sftp://user@ip.address. today when i do this instead of running the terminal and giving access to things it runs in vlc. now i know i have not been running vlc since the last time i used sftp so what is going on. i have been searching on line on how i can stop vlc opening sftp links but not finding any info.

I would be appreciating any help you can provide on this issue as it is stopping me from doing much needed work. if nothing is done in the next few days i am going to uninstall vlc and go back to using QuickTime Player on my mac.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Edit: i have noticed that in the vlc>settings>input/codecs>edit default applications for network protocals>sftp. the only option in the drop down is vlc. I am going to have to delete vlc. until this is fixed. before things just worked. and opened a terminal not vlc.

You can use the free system preference RCDefaultApp to set which application handles the URL type (such as ssh or sftp) amongst other designators like extensions, mime type, file type, etc.
