Converged Installation Guide

IMPORTANT: Given changes in Microsoft driver code signing policy, and the compliance need of EV certificate, CI auto builds beyond 2021/01/06 04:00AM EST will not be automatically signed with normal code signing certificate.

These builds are still supposed via TestSigning, but not recommended for normal users. Proper WHQL and EV dual-signed packages will be released manually, which can be downloaded from the release page.

  1. Make sure you uninstalled Trackpad++ completely if you have previously does so
  2. Go to the release tab in Github and download the newest version for your architecture
  3. Right click AmtPtpDevice.inf and install it

Note: it is unnecessary to enable test signing, or install the certificate manually. Doing so may cause problems in installation. See this issue for detailed explanation.

Also Uninstallation (extremely important for reinstallation Trackpad++ and such)

  1. Go to device manager
  2. Find the «Apple Precision Touch Device»
  3. Right click «remove the device» and also check «uninstall driver»
  4. Rescan devices

Installation with Chocolatey

The drivers are available as a Chocolatey package. To install using Chocolatey run:

  • SPI/T2 version is kernel-mode driver, using KMDF Framework v1.23. Windows 10 Driver Development Kit Version 1903 is required for development and testing.
  • USB version is a user-mode driver, using UMDF Framework v2.15. Windows 10 Driver Development Kit Version 1903 is required for development and testing.

There is a bring-up issue for certain MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. I am looking into it. If you have such device with Windows installed, please contact me so I can look into the issue remotely (as I don’t have many devices).

People familiar with me know that I don’t use Apple MacBook (so development work of this driver occurs on a Surface Pro 4). People probably think it doesn’t make sense that I started this project. The motivation behind this project origin from complaints from my girlfriend. Hearing about frequent complains about Dell XPS 13’s touchpad (though it passed Precision Touchpad certification), I decided to start this project, so by the time she switches to MacBook Pro, she will have excellent touchpad experience out-of-box, even on Windows. This driver is made for you, but also for everyone.

I would like to thank projects like magictrackpad2-dkms and macbook12-spi-driver that inspire me. I would also like to thank my friends for providing me immense help on devices and testing.

Programs and Features .

Пакет драйверов Windows — Apple Inc. Apple Trackpad (13.07.2009 3.0.0.1)

и это терпит неудачу, потому что это не может найти ответственный файл .inf, удаляя драйвер. Если присмотреться, путь между тем, что говорит вам мастер установки драйвера устройства, и тем, что находится в системе, действительно немного отличается. The Device Driver Installation Wizard says : ERROR: File ‘C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\aapltctp64.inf_amd64_neutral_99bcf785d5d9575a\aapltctp64.inf’ not found

20001, Source = UserPnP

Таким образом, похоже, что Windows пытается «перенести» эти драйверы, но терпит неудачу в попытке, потому что не может их найти?

Любые подсказки о том, что я могу попробовать дальше? С кем мне нужно связаться?

Windows 10 — apple touchpad driver incomplete or damaged

A few days ago my macbookpro touchpad stopped working with windows 10.

My attempts to fix the issue:

a) Looking at the device manager, I can see that the touchpad drivers (there are 2 of them for some reasons) are indeed complaining. Upgrading or ‘Removing + scanning for new H/W’ invariably produce the same result.

Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. [. ] Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

b) I also tried to delete the touchpad drivers via the Programs and Features .

Windows Driver Package — Apple Inc. Apple Trackpad (07/13/2009 3.0.0.1)

and it fails because it cannot find the .inf file in charge if uninstalling the driver. Looking at it closely the path between what the device driver installation wizard is telling you and what’s on the system is indeed slightly different. The Device Driver Installation Wizard says : ERROR: File ‘C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\aapltctp64.inf_amd64_neutral_99bcf785d5d9575a\aapltctp64.inf’ not found It seems that I don’t have a _neutral variant of the path. In other words the closest path I have to this is C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\aapltctp64.inf_amd64_99bcf785d5d9575a\aapltctp64.inf

What I changed recently

The big changes that I had done this week was to install the latest windows 10 big update (dated Novembre 2015) which got postponed until now as it continuously failed until I forced a re-download (but that’s beside the point).

The second big change was to update iTunes to latest version along with my iPhone to the latest iOS 9.2 (I believe this guy also tend to update drivers.. but I might be wrong)

Oh and last but not least, I am stuck with bootcamp 3.1 as it refuses to install the latest 3.2 as I am using a fairly old MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010). So unfortunately, I cannot install the latest drivers 🙁

I didn’t realize I could get specific driver events from event viewer. This is what I get :

Event Source=Kernel-PnP

Event Source=UserPnP

Event Source=UserPnP

So, it looks like windows is trying to «migrate» these drivers but is failing in the attempt because it cannot find them ?

Any clues on what I can try next ? Who do I need to contact ?

Question: Q: Trackpad driver for Win 10

I have a mid 2009 Macbook Pro 15 inch laptop. After upgrading from win 7 to win 10, my trackpad no longer works. Windows says it can’t start the touchpad driver because information is missing from the registry. I have no idea who manufactured the trackpad, I assume it was apple. Is there a way to get the correct driver and install it in this situation?

Thanks for listening. I am only mildly tech savvy.

Your Mac does not officially support W10, as noted in Use Windows 10 on your Mac with Boot Camp — Apple Support .

Thanks. Unfortunately that did not work. It appeared the driver updated but I am still getting the message that info in the registry is incomplete or corrupted. I have no idea what a registry is.

Interesting that the get windows 10 app told me that my device was fully compatible (mid 2009 macbook pro), yet on anther computer, my mid 2014 macbook pro, the windows 10 app is saying there are issues with the device and will not download win 10.

Is it possible that you are running W7 32bit?

Aug 25, 2015 4:09 PM

Microsoft, through the upgrade assistant, may tell you that your computer does have the minimum system requirements to be updated to Windows 10, but that is all from the Microsoft perspective. If may update to the latest version of Windows, but your hardware may not work to the max potential since Apple will not release any driver update for your computer model to run with Windows 10 (if it falls in the list of unsupported devices.) If you can live with the standard/universal set of drivers that Microsoft will load for you during the update process without using the max power of all your Apple hardware, you MAY be safe to update. Personally, I will not recommend it at all. If you do so, you are on your own; do it at your own risk.

If you have a class requirement to work in Windows, my best suggestion would be to install Virtualbox (https://www.virtualbox.org), which is legally free, and run your Windows in a virtual environment. Once you are done with your class, just dump the virtual machine, uninstall Virtualbox, and enjoy life!

No I am running 64 bit Win 10. Before I had 64 bit Win 7.

Download and install Windows support software on your Mac

After using Boot Camp Assistant to install or upgrade Microsoft Windows on your Mac, you might also need to install the latest Windows support software (drivers) from Apple.

When you install Microsoft Windows on your Mac, Boot Camp Assistant automatically opens the Boot Camp installer, which installs the latest Windows support software (drivers). If that doesn’t happen, or you experience any of the following issues while using Windows on your Mac, follow the steps in this article.

  • Your Apple mouse, trackpad, or keyboard isn’t working in Windows.
Force Touch isn’t designed to work in Windows.
  • You don’t hear audio from the built-in speakers of your Mac in Windows.
  • The built-in microphone or camera of your Mac isn’t recognized in Windows.
  • One or more screen resolutions are unavailable for your display in Windows.
  • You can’t adjust the brightness of your built-in display in Windows.
  • You have issues with Bluetooth or Wi-Fi in Windows.
  • You get an alert that Apple Software Update has stopped working.
  • You get a message that your PC has a driver or service that isn’t ready for this version of Windows.
  • Your Mac starts up to a black or blue screen after you install Windows.

If your Mac has an AMD video card and is having graphics issues in Windows, you might need to update your AMD graphics drivers instead.

Install the latest macOS updates

Before proceeding, install the latest macOS updates, which can include updates to Boot Camp.

Format a USB flash drive

To install the latest Windows support software, you need a 16GB or larger USB flash drive formatted as MS-DOS (FAT).

  1. Start your Mac from macOS.
  2. Plug the USB flash drive into your Mac.
  3. Open Disk Utility, which is in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.
  4. Choose View > Show All Devices from the menu bar.
  5. From the sidebar in Disk Utility, select your USB flash drive. (Select the drive name, not the volume name beneath it.)
  6. Click the Erase button or tab.
  7. Choose MS-DOS (FAT) as the format and Master Boot Record as the scheme.
  8. Click Erase to format the drive. When done, quit Disk Utility.

Download the Windows support software

  1. Make sure that your Mac is connected to the Internet.
  2. Open Boot Camp Assistant, which is in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.
  3. From the menu bar at the top of your screen, choose Action > Download Windows Support Software, then choose your USB flash drive as the save destination. When the download completes, quit Boot Camp Assistant.

Install the Windows support software

After downloading the Windows support software to your flash drive, follow these steps to install the software. (If you’re attempting to resolve issues with a Bluetooth mouse or keyboard, it might be easier to use a USB mouse or keyboard until these steps are complete.)

  1. Make sure that the USB flash drive is plugged into your Mac.
  2. Start up your Mac in Windows.
  3. From File Explorer, open the USB flash drive, then open Setup or setup.exe, which is in the WindowsSupport folder or BootCamp folder. When you’re asked to allow Boot Camp to make changes to your device, click Yes.
  4. Click Repair to begin installation. If you get an alert that the software hasn’t passed Windows Logo testing, click Continue Anyway.
  5. After installation completes, click Finish, then click Yes when you’re asked to restart your Mac.

Learn more

If you can’t download or save the Windows support software:

  • If the assistant says that the Windows support software could not be saved to the selected drive, or that the USB flash drive can’t be used, make sure that your USB flash drive has a storage capacity of at least 16GB and is formatted correctly.
  • If the assistant doesn’t see your USB flash drive, click Go Back and make sure that the drive is connected directly to the USB port on your Mac—not to a display, hub, or keyboard. Disconnect and reconnect the drive, then click Continue.
  • If the assistant says that it can’t download the software because of a network problem, make sure that your Mac is connected to the Internet.
  • Make sure that your Mac meets the system requirements to install Windows using Boot Camp.

If a Mac feature still doesn’t work after updating the Windows support software, search for your symptom on the Apple support website or Microsoft support website. Some features of your Mac aren’t designed to work in Windows.
