MathType 7.4.3

MathType compatibility with macOS
All macOS versions are now compatible with MathType in Microsoft Word online, desktop and on iPad, available through the release of our MathType Add-In for Microsoft Word within Microsoft 365 suite. While this option doesn’t fully replace MathType 7 for macOS, we hope this tool helps you keep on including MathType in your workflow. Install it now and try it for free on the Microsoft app store
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. Will MathType 8 for macOS (macOS Catalina/BigSur) ever be a thing?
Not for the foreseeable future. While we are still considering options, we believe that a math editor embedded as an Add-In or an Add-On is the way to go for the future of our main MathType deployment.
2. Is the Add-In available only for Microsoft Word?
The current addin is available for :
— Word 2019 or later on Mac
-Word on iPadWord on Mac (Microsoft 365)
— Word on Windows (Microsoft 365)
— Word on the web
3. Do I have to pay an extra-subscription for the Add-In?
The Add-In comes free with your existing MathType subscription and you’ll be able to download it directly from Microsoft Word’s embedded Add-In store.
4. Will the Add-In work only in Word or in other Office applications too?
For the moment, the Add-In will only be available for Microsoft Word application within Microsoft 365 suite, although our immediate roadmap contemplates the implementation of MathType Add-In in Powerpoint too.
5. Are the equations created with MathType Add-In compatible with MathType for Google Workspace?
Given the differences in Google and Microsoft online office suites, it is not possible right now to edit equations created with Microsoft Word’s Add-In within Google Workspace’s Add-On (and vice versa). However, it’s a feature that our team is working on right now and that we plan to include in the future.
6. Can I edit my equations created with Microsoft Word default equation editor?
This option is available for now on the desktop version of Microsoft Word within Microsoft 365 suite. In order to do so, you need to select the whole equation and then open our Add-In. This feature is planned to be released in the future for Microsoft Word 365 online but it still requires development steps both from Microsoft and us.
7. Can I edit my equations created with MathType 7 or older versions?
There is currently no way to edit equations created with MathType 7 (or older versions) using the Microsoft Word Add-In within Microsoft 365 suite.
Important notice for MathType 7 on Mac
MathType 7 is compatible with macOS versions up to Mojave 10.14. It is not compatible with 64-bit versions such as macOS Catalina or Big Sur.
Please also note that this incompatibility does not affect MathType for Google Docs and Slides, or MathType for Windows.

Question: Q: MathType for macOS
WIRIS has chosen not to release a version on MathType 7 for 64 bit macOS. Does anyone have a suggested replacement? I ahve 25 years if Owrd and PowerPoint with MathType Equations.

Microsoft Word should work for MathType equations but I would recommend you use a trial version before you commit to it.

Thanks this is helpful. Will Pages Export to MS Word?

Thanks this is helpful. Will Pages Export to MS Word?
Yes. However, I’m going to have to retract my recommendation for Pages. I tried it with one equation and it worked fine, but then I tried exporting to Word and I didn’t even make it that far. Pages failed miserably on the examples from Apple’s own Equations support document. It works great on the iPad, but the Mac version doesn’t work.
Ironically enough, a Pages document with equations that don’t work will export to Microsoft Word and the equations look perfect in Word. It looks like Word has upgraded its equations since the last time I used them last. century. It is a little clunky to get LaTeX into Word, but it works and displays much better than in Pages. If you need to work in Word, I suggest you just stay in Word and use its native equations support.

Question: Q: Math Type
So, when I updated to Mojave a year or so ago, all of my MathType equations in pages and keynote became images. I had to salvage every equation — one at a time in every one of my documents. Now, this morning I have updated to Catalina and have discovered that I am screwed until MathType upgrades their software to MathType 8.
Does anyone out there have a work around? At the moment, can I downgrade back to Mojave? Does Apple not care that they ruin people’s work when they do these updates without considering all apps. MathType is promoted by Apple so I don’t see how it is justified that they don’t consider that product in their updates.

The least pain approach would be a second Mac running High Sierra, or Mojave, and Pages v8.1 with MathType 7. Vendors have had an extended timeframe to prepare 64-bit applications, so waiting for MathType 8 could be tedium.
Then things start to go downhill if you only have one Mac. You can go back to Mojave, or High Sierra — provided that you performed a last Time Machine backup prior to the upgrade, and that you did not reuse that same Time Machine drive to backup Catalina. In theory, you would boot into Recovery and select Restore from Time Machine Backup to wipe the Catalina drive and restore everything as it was before the upgrade. I say in theory as obviously, I have not done this with a retreat from Catalina.
If the second paragraph is a bust, you are looking at a clean install of a supported, prior operating system to replace Catalina, and without a backup, you will lose all data on the existing Catalina installation.
Apple’s built-in, aenemic, equation solution is a C++ compiled translator that either passes through MathML, or translates a subset of [LaTeX] syntax into MathML objects in Pages v7.1 and later. It is a nail biting alternative to MathType, and does not address existing MathType equations, but does give one in-line equations. It does not support any [La]TeX packages, so without amsmath, it may frustrate more than reward.
