This may be because Arch’s libraqm is freshly up to date and the upstream binary is built against an old version.

There isn’t going to be much we can do about this. The solution if for upstream to release a binary build compatible with the new libraqm.

For now you can downgrade libraqm. Perhaps someone can figure out a way to extract the old library, bundle it with this package and launch it in a way that it gets found.

I still get the same error with no infinality stuff installed. All I have is freetype2 installed from official repos.

alerque commented on 2021-09-29 08:52

@H0lmEd This package doesn’t directly depend on freetype at all, that is on you. FYI the infinality everything is completely deprecated and gradually being cleaned up from AUR repos. If you have any -infinality, -ib, -ibx packages still I suggest swapping them out for their regular counterparts.

H0lmEd commented on 2021-09-29 07:57

Had a build error convert: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libraqm.so.0: undefined symbol: FT_Get_Transform

Solved by replacing freetype2-infinality-remix with freetype2

How to Install Microsoft Edge in Arch Linux and Manjaro

3 min

This quick guide explains the steps required to install Microsoft Edge Browser (now Dev version) in Arch Linux, Manjaro, and other similar distributions.

Microsoft Edge is a Chromium-based web browser from Microsoft. Announced a while back, Mircosoft recently changed the direction by adopting the Chromium project for its next-gen web browser. The Edge browser is used across Microsoft operating systems (e.g. Windows 10) and capable devices.

The browser is based on Chromium and modified by Microsoft for its needs. After the announcement that Edge will be available for Linux, it is widely accepted positively by many users while others are skeptical about it considering the whole “Embrace – Extend – Extinguish” idea.

Having said that, the Edge dev preview packages are available as .deb and .rpm for Debian, Ubuntu-based, and Fedora, RHEL based distributions. Recently the package is included in the Arch user repository.

This guide explains the steps on how to install Microsoft Edge in Arch Linux using compilation. And it covers the following points:

The Microsoft Edge browser (dev) is available in AUR. You can install using yay AUR helper. If you do not have yay installed, first install it using this guide. Then follow the below steps.

Open a terminal and run the below command.

Provide options for prompt:

  • Packages to CleanBuild = A (for ALL)
  • Diff to show = N.

Then proceed with Y for installation.

Wait for the installation to finish. After completion, you can find the launcher “Microsoft Edge (dev)” in the application menu.

Install Microsoft Edge in Arch Linux and Manjaro (via compilation)

  • Open a terminal in Arch Linux.
  • This method is a process of compiling the microsoft-edge-dev.git . This requires the base-devel and git package. If base-devel is not installed, run the below command. If it is installed, you can skip this step.
  • To install git run

The next step is to clone the git repo locally to compile. Go to any directory. For this example, I have used the home directory and clone the git.

After the cloning is complete, go to the microsoft-edge-dev directory and run the below command to compile.

Wait for the compilation to complete.

After installation find the Edge icon from menu to launch.

Remember, the version is a developer preview version at the moment. It lacks many important features such as sync, vertical tabs, hardware acceleration, etc. However, if you want to test it out in Arch or Manjaro – go ahead and try.

If you encounter any error, let me know in the comment box below.
