How to remove Office license files on a Mac
If you’re troubleshooting Office and would like to remove the license files on your Mac, you can use the license removal tool. This will completely remove all licenses for Office for Mac.
Important: Before using the tool, make sure you have the correct account info and password associated with your purchase of Office available for when you reactivate.
This tool can also help if you’ve subscribed to Microsoft 365 but previously had a one-time purchase of Office for Mac on your computer, and aren’t seeing certain subscription features. This can be due to your copy of Office still using the license of your one-time purchase and not your subscription.
Before you begin
1. Check what license your version of Office is currently using. See, What version of Office am I using?
Note: If you’re looking for subscription features and your version is using a Microsoft 365 subscription license, then you don’t need to do the rest of these steps. You’re already using the correct license. See When do I get the newest features for Microsoft 365? for more info on why you may not be seeing subscription features yet.
2. If you aren’t uninstalling the Office apps to reinstall them later, quit out of all Office apps. If you’ve already uninstalled Office, go to the next step.
Download and run the license removal tool
2. Open the .pkg file from your Mac’s Downloads folder.
Note: If you get an «unidentified developer» error, try opening the file by holding Control + clicking the file > Open.
3. Select Continue and follow the prompts in the setup wizard.
Caution: We recommend you double-check that you have the correct account info ready by logging into Office.com/signin and checking for the license you want to activate with.
4. When you’re ready to complete the license removal, select Install. You may need to enter your Mac’s local admin account password.
After the tool successfully removes licenses, select Close.
5. Now open any Office app and sign in to activate with the email account associated with your Office for Mac license. If you’re troubleshooting an issue, you may need to reinstall Office before signing in.
After you’ve successfully activated, restart your computer and then you’re good to go!
Note: If your account has both a Microsoft 365 for Mac license and a one-time purchase associated with it, you’ll be prompted to choose which license you want to activate with. We recommend always choosing Microsoft 365 for Mac if available.
6. Uninstall the License Removal Tool by dragging the Microsoft_Office_License_Removal file from Finder > Downloads to Trash.

MAC Microsoft Remote Desktop Licensing Error
«You were disconnected from the Windows-based computer because of problems during the licensing protocol»
Is there a fix, I have read so many post. one which originally started all the way back in 2009 on Microsoft forums.
I am having 10.6+ MAC OS X remote into Windows Server 2008 R2 64 Bit Standard and they are getting the above error. I have heard of solutions but can not find one that works when I test it.
The Server works perfectly fine for Windows PCs and I am using CoRD at the moment which works but the managers of the company dislike it and want to use Remote Desktop provided by Microsoft.

Try changing the Remote Desktop settings on the servers to «Allow any version» (middle option, less secure). Some clients still don’t support the latest RDP.
Already have done this.
The issue is RDC only works technically with 10.6 not Lion or Mountain Lion .7 and .8.
However I see RDC working in corporate situations of other companies. Also have heard people find solutions but they never detail what the solution actually is.

I can anecdotally say that RDC works on 10.7 and 10.8 when connecting to 2008R2. Are you using the most recent RDC version 2.1.1?
I use RDC 2.1.1 on 10.8 to connect to Server 2008 R2 all the time. No special settings needed aside from allowing any version to relax the security.

This is a post of my issue. A lot of people seem to be having issues also.
I use RDC on Mountain Lion connecting to WinSrv2008, 2003, XP, and 7. I don’t have any issues, but that doesn’t fix your problem.

I see this problem with the terminal server licensing is not functioning. When the licensing services isn’t working temporary licenses are issued to Windows (XP/Vista/7) Home and Mac clients. Windows pro versions do not seems to be impacted. Temporary licenses are only valid for 90 days. After 90 days you have to remove the temporary licenses from the client. Fix for Windows clients is well documented (delete the TSLicensing key). Using CoRD on the Mac can be a temporary fix but I’ve seen the license will expire with it as well.
IFor Mac clients
Delete the contents of:
«/Users/Shared/Microsoft/RDC Crucial Server Information».
Attempt to reconnect to the server.
If it fails change the permissions on the folder using this command.
Terminal window:
sudo chmod -R g+w /Users/Shared/Microsoft/
Hi Guys I know this is an old post but I thought this update might be usefully to all.
1.Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac is not intended for use with Mac OS X v10.7 (Lion) or later.
2. Microsoft have provided me with following information;
I want to inform you, that there is no more work being done on the Mac RDC client at this time. And once users move to Lion or Mountain Lion it is not supported.
That is to say if we will find a bug it will not be fixed, even not on Snow Leopard.
So planning for the future it makes sense to move from the RDC client example to «Cord» or «itap». Because you never know what update from Apple is going to break it.
3. The issue you a facing is down to the client and nothing else. Microsoft has provided us with a V2.1.2 RDP App but I cannot release any more about this. This has resolved the problem we faced

A Product Key is a unique 25-character alpha-numeric code used to redeem and activate your Office product. You cannot use a product key for an older Office product (or a different product) to redeem your new copy of Office.
To find your Product Key, look for the 25-character alpha-numeric code on the back of the card inside your Office product packaging. Sometimes the Product Key may be printed on your retail receipt.
