It supports movies shot by a digital video camera with an IEEE 1394-compliant DV terminal.

That connection is only supported under Windows XP.
Only Panasonic DVD recorders with a DV terminal can be connected.

There is no function that displays or outputs shooting date and time recorded with a movie on a DV tape.

otionDV STUDIO» cannot capture movies from two video cameras at the same time.
There is no function that inserts a small window into a movie window while capturing movies.

«MotionDV STUDIO» does not have a DVD authoring function and you cannot create chapter points or add subtitles in a movie.

«MotionDV STUDIO 5.1E LE for DV» and «MotionDV STUDIO 5.3E LE for DV» can capture a movie in USB 2.0 high-speed mode from Digital Video Camera(*).
(*)NV-GS400K,NV-GS150,NV-GS250
Other «MotionDV STUDIO» versions do not support movie capturing via a USB connection.

«MotionDV STUDIO» does not support MPEG2 movie capturing.

Check your connection process.

  1. Start your PC.
  2. Connect your digital video device to your PC with a DV cable.
  3. Turn on the digital video device.
  4. Start «MotionDV STUDIO.»

Check if your imaging device is shown after selecting as follows:
[My Computer]-[Control Panel]-[System]-[Device Manager]

Check your connection process.
Uninstall and reinstall «MotionDV STUDIO.»

Check your connection process.
Check if [IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers] is shown in the Device Manager window. If it is not shown, «IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers» is required to be recognized.
>>>.Please inquire about its recognition to your PC or card maker.

Check if the connected digital video device works properly
(if any error is shown, if it works properly in isolation, etc.).

Restart your PC.

When you insert the CD-ROM, the installation wizard should automatically start. If it does not start, double-click «setup.exe» in the CD-ROM folder to start it manually.

If any error occurs during the installation and the installation process stops,

Run ScanDisk to check for hard disk errors.
Uninstall and reinstall the system.
If a virus disinfection program or other resident software is running, exit it before the installation.

During MotionDV STUDIO installation, the Installation window may disappear behind the CD launcher window if you click any part of your PC desktop.
Click [InstallShield Wizard] on your task bar to show the Installation window.

Even if «Ikernel.exe — Application Error» is shown, the installation is complete and you can restart the PC and use «MotionDV STUDIO.»
* InstallShield may fail to complete successfully depending on the execution status of Windows Update on Windows XP, resulting in this error.

Because Motion DV STUDIO bundled with a digital video camera and a «MotionDV STUDIO» package can coexist on your PC, you can install and use both on the same PC

You must not directly operate the digital video device while «MotionDV STUDIO» is running. If you do that, the connection is broken and you cannot operate the device.
(Only you can swap tapes during a session.)

  • If its time codes recorded on the tape are not contiguous, it may not be captured.
  • Check that your hard disk has enough available space.
(You need about 1 GB space per 4 minutes movie. If you want to process a movie, you need space about double of the captured size.)
  • Exit software other than «MotionDV STUDIO» if any is running
(including «VirusBuster» and other software that is always running).
  • Turn off a screen saver and the power saving mode while you are using «MotionDV STUDIO» because it may freeze if the screen saver starts.
  • If your available hard disk space becomes 300 MB or less during movie capturing, a message appears and you cannot continue the capturing.

«MotionDV STUDIO» uses the Windows standard driver to connect a digital video device but some PCs are designed to use a driver with their own specification. You cannot operate a digital video device from «MotionDV STUDIO» on such a PC.

It meets the software specification and is not an error.
Because the capturing process uses much of your PC power (imposes heavy load on the CPU), the size of a movie shown on the Preview window becomes smaller to reduce the load.

Defragment your hard disk.
Select [Start]-[Accessories]-[System Tools]-[Disk Defragmenter] to start.
Right-click your desktop (wallpaper), point to [Active Desktop], and delete the check mark from [View As Web Page].
If any software other than «MotionDV STUDIO» (such as resident software) is running, some frames may be omitted.
We recommend exiting other software before you use «MotionDV STUDIO.»
From the «MotionDV STUDIO» menu, select [Tools]-[Setup], and select [Rewind and join omitted frames] for [How to save captured movie] in the Input Tape Setup window.
The tape is automatically rewound to the point 5 seconds earlier from the omitted frame, played back, and captured again from that frame.
Capture movies to an internal HDD instead of an external HDD because an external one may not transfer data at sufficient speed.
If your PC is in power saving mode, turn off the mode.
For information about how to turn off the mode, see your PC manual.
Turn on the DMA setting of your PC hard disk.

  1. Select [My Computer]-[Control Panel]-[System]-[Device Manager]-[Disk drives], choose the hard disk that you are using, and open its [Properties].
  2. Click the Setting tab and select the DMA check box.

It may occur if you set large area for the window on some PCs.
It may be improved by setting «1024 x 768» dots for the window area, and «16 bits» for color.

Sample audio data installed with MotionDV STUDIO may not be properly generated under some PC environments.
In this case, it will be properly installed by uninstalling and reinstalling the system.

Install AcrobatReader, select the icon of the basic operation manual, and press F5 on your keyboard to display the proper icon.

If you capture a movie in your PC, sound is only captured from Stereo 1.

You can create a title with moving characters and sample animation. Using Version 3.0 or later, you can also create 3D characters and multi-screen video (*1).
(*1) Multi-screen video means that you can insert a video clip into another movie. By saving a shown movie as a video file, you can create a movie with another movie in another window. You can also encircle an inserted movie by a heart, star, or other shape.

Use the MotionDV STUDIO title editor to create a title.

  1. Drag and drop a video clip on the edit track.
  2. Separate a part to which you want to add a title.
  3. Right-click a clip separated on Step 2 to which you want to add a title and select [Set Title].
  4. Create a title.

For further details, see «Title Editor Mode» in the PDF manual.

Sorry, but please enter the string again.

The system supports 11 types: Fade-in, Fade-out, Mosaic, Art, Negative/Positive, Strobe, Monotone, Sepia, Mirror, Slow, and Brightness.
(In the case of V3.0J. Some versions do not support certain effects.)

The system supports 31 types: Mix, Wipe, Slide, Stretch, etc.
(In the case of V3.0. The number of types differs depending on your version.)

You can make sound input from the microphone into a WAV file.
After making a WAV file, the audio mix function can handle it.

You cannot directly capture it.
After using a DV device with analog line input, like NV-DM1 or DV1000, to record analog signals on a DV tape, you can capture it to your PC.

Check your recorder settings.

  1. Select [Start]-[Programs]-[Accessories]-[Entertainment]-[Volume Control].
    * You can also right-click the speaker icon at the lower right of the screen and select [Open Volume Control] to open the same window.
  2. Select [Options]-[Properties] from the menu bar.
  3. Check that the proper mixer device is selected.
  4. Select [Recording] for [Adjust volume for] and select all the check boxes of controls that you want to show.
  5. Click [OK] to show the Recording Control window.
  6. Select [CD], [Mixer], or [Playback Redirection].(*1)
  7. After completing the above settings, start «MotionDV STUDIO,» and select [File]-[Input]-[Capture Sound Material] from the menu bar to start capturing sound.

(*1) Depending on your OS or environment, select different controls.
If you cannot record the sound with [CD], [Mixer], or [Playback Redirection], try other controls.

  1. Select [Start MotionDV STUDIO]->[Menu Library(&L)]->[New Folder(&N)] to show the Create New Folder dialog box, click the folder icon in the New Folder Name box, choose a folder in which movie or sound files are saved, and then click [OK].
  2. Check the content of the Create New Folder dialog box and click [OK] if there is no problem.
  3. The specified destination folder is registered with the library window.
(For further details, see «Changing a destination folder» in the PDF manual.)
  4. The content of the folder registered as above is shown.
If it is not shown, choose the folder registered as above from the Material Folders box.

You can join more than one movie file into a single file by placing them on the edit track and outputting them to the file.

  1. Choose movie files that you want to join, and drag and drop them on the edit track.
  2. Select [Output]->[File Output] from the tool box to open the Output panel.
  3. Choose a file format (for example, [MPEG2 Format(Specify Format)].
  4. Set the image quality and size, check the expected file volume shown by clicking the More Information button, and start the file output.
  1. Drag and drop a movie file on the edit track.
  2. Click the edit track at the point where you want to split it and specify a split point.
(The currently specified image is shown in the Preview window.)
  3. Click the Split button in the Control window.
(The file is split at the specified point.)

Mark in (delete the movie part before the selected frame) or mark out (delete the movie part after the selected frame) to cut unnecessary movie parts.

  1. Adjust the time scale for the edit track.
  2. Choose a video clip that you want to trim.
  3. Show a frame that you want to make the beginning of the clip and click the Mark-in button.
  4. Show a frame that you want to make the end of the clip and click the Mark-out button.
(For further details, see «Trimming a clip» in the PDF manual.)

In a SEQ file for «MotionDV STUDIO,» editing information (including cut points and clip orders) is saved. This file does not differ depending on data formats, such as AVI and MPEG2 formats.
And a SEQ file does not include image data at all, but only editing information. When you delete or move image data used in editing information, that information is no longer valid.

In order to create mute data, specify the settings shown below and use «WaveRecorder» of MotionDV SUTDIO
[Settings]
In the audio properties window, clear all the Select check boxes in the Recording box to record completely mute data.

Note:
After creating mute data, reset the settings. Otherwise, sound may be muted when you record data with other software.
When you use the audio mix function to add the mute sound, set the rate of the added sound to 100% to mute the output data.
For further details, see «Edit mode»->»Non-linear edit mode»->»Setting the rates of the original and added sound» in the PDF manual.

  • Target Versions:V3.0 / V4.7
  1. Double-click the video clip placed on the edit track to open its properties.
  2. Set [Volume] to 0 in the Properties window.

«MotionDV STUDIO» cannot handle two sound materials at the same time.
Follow the steps below separately for narration and BGM.
Use WaveRecorder of «MotionDV STUDIO» to create a sound material for narration or BGM and add the sound to a video file.

  1. Select [Mode]->[Standard Mode] from the tool box.
  2. Select [Input]->[Capture Sound Material] from the tool box, start WaveRecorder, and then create a sound material for narration.
(For further details, see «Capturing a sound material» in the PDF manual.)
  3. Add the sound to a video file.
(For further details, see «Adding sound (audio mix)» in the PDF manual.)
  4. Show a frame that you want to make the end of the clip and click the Mark-out button.
(For further details, see «Trimming a clip» in the PDF manual.)

In «MotionDV STUDIO 5.0» or later version, drag and drop an audio file on the BGM track to add it.

Under some PC environments, output may not be shown properly when edit information such as for 3D arrangement that requires so much of PC resources is played back.
Reduce the number of clips that you set before trying again.

It is designed to automatically synchronize BGM within 5 frames from the beginning and end of the video clip if you place music on the BGM track. You can finely adjust it by operating it while pressing the Shift key.

You cannot use the edit information saved under a PC environment in a different time zone because the saved time information is different from that of your PC.

«MotionDV STUDIO» does not have a function that writes data into a DVD-R/RW disk.
After editing and outputting a movie to a file with «MotionDV STUDIO,» you can write it in a DVD-R/RW disk by using commercially available DVD authoring software to capture the output file.
1 Because supported formats may differ depending on DVD-R/RW authoring software (software used to write data), see your authoring software manual for information about which format you can use to output the file.

If you directly operate the digital video camera while «MotionDV STUDIO» is running, the device may not be recognized any more.
Exit «MotionDV STUDIO,» connect the digital video camera again, and restart the program.

Check the connected DV device and the operation mode of your «MotionDV STUDIO.»
In «easy mode,» output to the DVD recorder is not shown.

If your PC is connected with a router, network device for wireless LAN, peripheral device for USB connection, or other similar device, you cannot properly record a movie.
In this case, remove such devices from your PC before recording.

Click the More Information button on the MotionDV STUDIO output panel to show the currently set bit rate and expected output size.
Bit rates can be set as follows:

720 x 480 high quality 8 Mbps
720 x 480 standard 6 Mbps
352 x 480 high quality 6 Mbps
352 x 480 standard 4 Mbps
352 x 480 highly compressed 3 Mbps
352 x 240 high quality 6 Mbps
352 x 240 standard 4 Mbps
352 x 240 highly compressed 2 Mbps

For MPEG2 output (in specified format), it takes several times longer than the actual time length of a movie because it is encoded twice. The encode time length differs depending on your PC power and environment. We recommend optimizing your HDD by the defragmenter or other means.
