Представляем MTG Arena для macOS
Posted in Magic Digital on 22 Июнь 2020
By Wizards of the Coast
Epic Games.
Intel Core i5.
Epic Games?
Windows?

You run them in the Terminal application. It should be inside Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal.

This was so helpful!! In case other people need this info, for a 13inch 2020 MacBook Pro, use 2560 for the width and 1600 for the height.

There was an update few days ago. Now when you set 16:10 resolution left and right borders of the battlefield are cut, so you can’t see right side of cards on stack or pets.
If you set resolution to 16:9, then there are black bars on top and bottom of the screen and cursor is misaligned with buttons 🙁

If there is one, I haven’t found it yet. Performance with the black bars is also pretty abysmal.

Entering the commands again fixed it for me. But if you go the graphic settings menu, the bug comes back.
I’ll suggest just getting the graphic settings sorted and avoid going near the graphic settings in the meantime.

I need some help, please.
I have a MacBook Pro from 2017 and the display solution is 13.3-inch (2560 × 1600). I entered the following commands:
defaults write com.wizards.mtga «Screenmanager Fullscreen mode» -integer 0
defaults write com.wizards.mtga «Screenmanager Resolution Width» -integer 2560

Yes, it’s always cut off. Is 2560×1600 the actual resolution that you’re using? That would be extremely tiny on a 13” screen.

So I have to chose between it being cut off or the cursor being displaced?
How do I know which resolution I’m using? 2560×1600 is what it says under System Preferences —> Display

Yes, you have to choose. Being cut off on the sides is not usually a huge problem, except for with large stacks.
And it’s whatever the «looks like» resolution is.

What a pity that one has to chose. But better than nothing I guess.

It’s under the scaled options, just toggle to it to find out what you’re using.

Is there any way to stop the command from running? Mac now officially supports full screen, and I’d rather switch to using that than this any longer.

Although, that said, I’m on my Macbook Pro and there is no full screen option. I’ve only seen it show up when running at 16:9 on an external display.

I am using a 2020 MacBook Pro with the new M1 processor and I have tried to run MTG Arena on it but that was a fruitless endeavour since I quickly ran against a blackscreen when i started the client. I tried adapting the code so the resolution of the game was on par with that of the screen but unfortunately nothing changed. The only thing that appears when i run the client is the ingame cursor, however. Maybe someone of you has a brain that is way bigger than mine and can help me out!
Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

On my MBP 2020 / 13 inch there are some issues with cards being cut off at the right side of the screen. I found another workaround for that, which should work on all retina displays.
- Get retina display manager (or equivalent): https://github.com/avibrazil/RDM/
- Switch to a 16:9 resolution using RDM, that is supported by MTGA (I use 1280×720)
- In MTGA you can set fullscreen mode and select that resolution (or 2560×1440)
- enjoy
- afterwards set the resolution back using RDM (I use 1440×900)
It may be embedded in a script like this (adapt paths as needed):
Hope that helps anybody.

FYI, if you are using the official release, it uses Unity as the engine. The great thing about Unity is you can add command line arguments, as mentioned above. However, the Epic launcher allows you to input command line arguments without the need to modify any files with terminal. The added benefit is if you need to troubleshoot you do not need to re-enter terminal to modify files after clearing and reinstalling, for example.
Launcher -> Sprocket icon for settings (bottom left) -> Scroll down to MTGA -> expand -> Command line arguments.
You can enter any one of these to get the result you want:
- Fullscreen: -screen-fullscreen 1
- Force the use of Metal: -force-metal
- Force to optimize for a low power device: -force-low-power-device
Example output into the field: -force-metal -force-low-power-device -screen-fullscreen 1
If you need to get exact screen widths I recommend this, however there is a caveat I’ve found:
- Specific window height: -screen-height [desired pixels]
- Specific window width: -screen-width [desired pixels]
Example output into the field: -screen-height 1416 -screen-width 2560
To remove the bar at the top of the window: -popupwindow
