При выпуске ремейка знаменитой игры уже родная для первого её издания платформа оказалась в роли догоняющей: издание для Macintosh появилось спустя несколько месяцев после Windows-версии, да и разрабатывали его не сами авторы, а сторонняя компания Presto Studios, позднее отметившаяся выпуском «Myst III Exile». Наиболее разрекламированным отличием «Masterpiece Edition» являлась переделка всей графики из 8-битной в 24-битную (в Truecolor-режиме игра и была разработана, но подверглась сознательному ухудшению визуального качества для своего первого издания); впрочем, невооружённым глазом особенность эту заметить не так уж и легко – в отличие от усовершенствованных видеороликов с «облётом» эпох перед их посещением: ранее отображавшиеся лишь в миниатюрных окошечках на страницах книг-порталов, они стали теперь полноэкранными и куда более красочными и детализированными.
К счастью, в Mac-издании ремейка, в отличие от его исходного варианта для PC, остались нетронутыми такие преимущества оригинала как наличие четырёх режимов отображения переходов между картинками при повороте (от ⌘1 до ⌘4), из которых по умолчанию теперь установлен наиболее качественный, а также возможность изменения громкости звука в настройках внутриигрового меню (⌘[ – «тише», ⌘] – «громче») и немного более точное позиционирование игрока по отношению к источнику этого звука. Правда, некоторые изменения звукового и музыкального оформления коснулись в Masterpiece Edition и Macintosh, к некоторому недовольству старожилов: их мнение Cyan постаралась учесть при подготовке юбилейного переиздания 2003 года, вышедшего уже на DVD-диске.
Чуть ли не наиболее заметным для пользователя новшеством «Masterpiece Edition» оказывается внедрённая в игру система помощи сразу трёх уровней («подсказка», «решение» и «общая подсказка» с информацией о текущем местоположении – вызываемые сочетанием клавиш соответственно ⌘5, ⌘6 и ⌘7). Имеется здесь и карта каждого посещаемого нами мира, демонстрируемая при нажатии ⌘8 и наглядно показывающая все местные достопримечательности (сразу и с подписями). Возможно, кому-то такое удобство покажется привлекательным – хотя с точки зрения аутентичности игрового процесса «Myst» оно смотрится скорее как нежелательный спойлер. Разумеется, пользоваться этими новыми функциями никто не заставляет – и местные головоломки по-прежнему можно разгадывать, внимательно исследуя загадочные миры с карандашом и блокнотом в руках. Также в качестве бонуса пользователи Mac-версии ремейка получают видеоролик, демонстрирующий красоты «Myst III Exile».
