Riven: The Sequel to Myst — продолжение нашумевшей игры Myst. Сиквел разрабатывался в течении четырех лет и увидел свет в 1997 году. Если оригинальная игра занимала пространства на одном CD-диске, то для второй части потребовалось в пять раз больше (!). Проект оказался очень масштабным, однако продажи, хоть и были ожидаемо большими, уступали Myst 1993-его года выпуска (1.5 миллиона против 12 миллионов соответственно).
Не смотря на то, что игра называется иначе, чем первая часть, она — прямое ее продолжение, расширяющее игровой мир, привнося в него множество новых деталей. Исходя из замысла создателей, проект создавался сразу для двух типов игроков: для непосредственно хардкорных геймеров, которым предлагались суровые испытания в виде еще более сложных головоломок, в сравнении с первой игрой, а для вторых — так называемых “туристов”, в игре были предусмотрены потрясающие виды, по меркам 1997 года.
Сюжет игры повествует о всем том же Страннике между мирами, и действия второй части следуют за финалом первой. Между ними стоит пропасть, но описана она в романе по мотивам игры 1995 года издания. Игровой сеттинг развернулся далеко за пределами компьютерных развлечений, но все направления являются официальными и влияют друг на друга.
С технической точки зрения, перед нами все тот же квест с видом от первого лица в виртуальном мире, напоминающий своими видами мир реальный. По меркам игр тех лет, в Riven: The Sequel to Myst визуализация находилась на немыслимы высотах. Касаемо же игрового процесса, большое количество головоломок разбавлено теперь обширным миром, пригодным для неторопливого и вдумчивого изучения.
Riven (32 bit installation) on Windows 10 64 bit
I am really hoping someone in the community is up to the challenge.
I would really love to install my copy of Riven on the brand spanking new Windows 10.
The challenge: Installing a 32 bit game on a 64 bit system.
Riven is a 32 bit installation file. When I attempt to run the file, the error
«This app can’t run on your PC. To find a version for your PC, check with the software provider.»
The complication: Not buying another copy.
I don’t particularly want to buy another copy of a game I already own.
The question: Is it even possible to run a 32 bit installer on a 64 bit operating system?
Harder still, is it possible for a straight forward (maybe even quick) fix, to get this right?
Appreciate any and all help offered on this one. Thanks in advance!!

If you install Windows 32 bit app on 64 bit, you will be able to run 32 bits apps without any problem, because 64 bits can emulate 32 bits. Windows 32 bit can emulate only 32 bit. So, I would suggest you to contact game support team for further assistance they may have solution for this issue.

Not really. I only have Myst III, and games earlier than 2000 (Riven is ’97) often have issues that can be fixed,
but you may need to visit a Myst/Riven specific , or Cyan Worlds forums to find out what needs to be done.
Fan sites often have fixes, patches, etc. for these ‘vintage’ games.
— The original disk based version is more likely to require fixes than if you download an updated version
from GOG or other download site.
The vast majority of games that ran on Win7 will run on Win10. I’ve had to stuff around with a few again afterupgrading to Win10, but they came good again.
— GOG list Win7/8 as compatible with Riven, so Win10 should be OK as well.
You can probably pick the game up when a sale is on for as little a $2-3USD.
(I just read Bad Whipet’s review at the bottom of the main page above. Looks like the disk based version of
this game always has had an issue with 64bit Windows. 64bit XP too, probably. It seems even the download
version may still need some tweaking though. )
Note that if you have a collection of disk based games some may not load due to a
malware developed by MS called DRM Blocking .

Myst riven windows 10
It seems that you’re using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don’t work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera
AbacusFinch: I found a helpful Reddit post that details a method of playing Riven on modern operating systems (Windows 10 for me) and it works like a charm so far.
I will paraphrase what he tells you to do as well as including some additional steps that I needed to take to make it work with the GOG version as his version assumes you have the game on CD/DVD.
1. Download a ScummVM nightly build. The build I downloaded was right at the bottom, Windows (64bit), and I downloaded the latest development build rather than the latest stable build (the stable build kept saying I was missing data files so I was unable to launch the game). Drag the folder from the zip to your desktop or wherever you prefer.
2a. Check that you have the necessary data files in one folder, which for me was GalaxyClient/Games/Riven/Data. You should have all the files you need (ignore the optional ones) barring one, which we will cover in the next step.

2b. Copy or move your Riven.exe file into the Data folder.
3. Open the ScummVM folder we extracted earlier and run ScummVM. Select Add Game and navigate to your Riven folder, select the Data folder and press choose. (You don’t need to go into the Data folder, just select it).
4. Now select the game in your ScummVM main menu and press start. To play the game in fullscreen, press Edit Game, go to the graphics tab, tick override global graphic settings and then tick fullscreen mode. Press F5 in game to bring up a menu which allows you to save, load and quit. Also a nifty feature of ScummVM is that you can press F4 and it draws the selection boxes around the clickable zones in the game.
If you press start and ScummVM tells you that you’re missing files, double check that all the files you need are in your Data folder (remember you need Riven.exe in there too). What solved it for me was trying out different ScummVM nightly builds, trying both 32 bit and 64 bit, stable and development.
I hope this is helpful to people, I know it’s not the perfect workaround but if you’ve exhausted a lot of options then ideally this will be what you’ve been looking for. Happy adventuring!

Что до игрового процесса, так он остался в Riven: The Sequel to Myst таким же, каким был и в оригинальной предыдущей игре. То есть, вас снова ждут многочисленные локации, которые придется исследовать вдоль и поперек, головоломки и загадки, тайны, от которых голова пойдет кругом, персонажи, в диалогах с которыми вам придется поучаствовать, и не только. Другими словами, вас ждет очень много интересного…
Самое же прекрасное в этой игре то, что головоломки тут представлены широчайшим разнообразием, и каждая из них предлагает что-то новое. Где-то вам придется подбирать шифр, где-то искать и использовать предметы, которых не существует в реальности, а где-то и вовсе придется делать что-то необъяснимое.
Ну а в остальном же это типичный квест. Решайте головоломки, общайтесь с персонажами, наслаждайтесь видеовставками и главное, постарайтесь спасти мир от Гена, тирана, решившего уничтожить созданный им же самим мир…
