2. Run the Mail app troubleshooter
We will need to run the Windows 10 mail app troubleshooter and let it fix any errors you might have with your mail account or just with the mail app.
After you installed the troubleshooting app, open it, and wait for it to finish the scanning and repair process on your Windows 10 system.
3. Update your Mail app
Check to see if the latest Mail app updates are installed on your Windows 10 PC. Running outdated Mail app versions may prevent you from using all the app’s features and even block outgoing emails.
4. Disable your antivirus

- With which Email account you’re facing this issue?
- What is the file format of those attachments?
- Did you tried accessing the account on Web browser?

Can’t download attachments in Windows 10 Mail
I saw many similar topics but non of them described exactly the same problem as I have.
1) I’m using built in Mail application for Win 10
2) I’ve setup 2 Gmail accounts. Both worked perfectly in Windows Essentials on Win 8.1 before the upgrade.
3) I see all the mails and all the attachments inside them, but I can’t download or open any attachment.
4) I can see attachment type and size, but when I click on the attachment it just shows download animation and says cancel. I even left an app open for the night — nothing.
Some additional info: I have only windows defender as antivirus, my Internet connection is 12 MB/s, same accounts work perfect on iOS and other PC with Win 8.1, connected to the same network.
Please help, the app is unusable with this problem.

I am having the exact same problem. I’m trying to send myself pictures but I cannot see the attachments in the windows 10 mail application. When I use Edge to login to the web portal it works fine. Although even then the pictures seem to have been shrunk down from their original size. Also I don’t appreciate the Windows response below, they shouldn’t answer a question with a question, let alone a series of questions. I thought the original question was pretty clear.
The second question by Microsoft is answered in the original question, or did they not read it properly. File type shouldn’t be an issue, the problem is we can’t see the file, not that we can’t open the file. Even an improper file type will show up as an attachment. The 5th question, once again if you read their question they were looking at the same email, in outlook.com they could see the attachments and in the windows 10 mail app they couldn’t. They weren’t sending themselves an email to look at in the Windows App or vice-versa. I’m sorry but I get tired of people giving standard responses without giving any thought to the actual question, and then above all else provide zero insight to what the problem might be. I’d prefer for them to say they don’t know or that they’ll research some common causes, if any exist. sorry rant over.

I cannot get attachements with Window 10 email. The same emails I looked at on my Ipad have attachements.

3. I updated to windows 10
4. Any file type( as it won’t show any attachment)
5. Doesn’t apply to my issue. But again, I don’t see any attatchment regardless of who sent it
6. I have AVG on my machine, but not sure how that would stop a mail client from identifying that an attachment was part of the email.
I have to agree with EldonParry did you spend any time thinking about what was actually asked of Microsoft? Given how immediately this issue presents itself there is no way you (MS) aren’t aware of the actual issue already.
I can see that for the previous versions of this app for other OSs there was a setting that would block certain attachment file types and there are instructions on how to unblock them. But those instructions can’t help here as there are no obvious security settings for this version of the app.
I (and I’m sure others as well) can understand that this may be low on a list of things to fix for windows 10 as it has just been released, but just tell us that. I would much rather be told «hey guys, we missed a bit in a mail client that not many of you will probably be using right now. Until we dedicate a team to look into it we can’t confirm why its broken. We can’t guarantee a fix until we do so you’ll probably need to use something else if you need attachments»
I get how customer service works. Establish that the user has not caused the issue before spending any time on them. But sometimes it would be refreshing if we just admit some faults. Something along the lines «We released Vista, we got you to put windows 8 on your PCs, we make mistakes too you know.»
