(Solved) Latest Catalina with OC 0.5.8 macOS installer crash

Hi All,
I’m new to the hackintosh on AMD and I’m having issues with Installation.
I’m using latest public release of Catalina 4169 and OpenCore 0.5.8 I’m creating my boot USB with latest gibMacOS repo. Then I’ve followed the Opencore Zen guide to create my own config.plist
Just after installation and next boot into macOS Installer, the installer crashes with below. Please see the full log in the attachment.

I’ve tried with other version of Catalina [061=96006] too but the same outcome.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Update: The solution has been posted here in Installation Issue forum

In the nutshell, I’ve added the ‘-wegnoegpu’ flag to boot options and booted my installer in text mode. It seems to pass the breaking point. After reboot. I’ve removed this flag and it boots into installer. For graphics boot flags please see whatevergree

Hope this will help other people with similar issue.

Don`t need

  • SSDT-NVME.aml Make sure this file is in your OC/ACPI directory
  • SSDT-PLUG.aml Make sure this file is in your OC/ACPI directory
  • SSDT-XHC.aml Make sure this file is in your OC/ACPI directory
  • USBPorts.kext make sure this Kext is in your OC/Kexts directory

and try with this

    boot-args = -v keepsyms=1 debug=0x100 npci=0x2000 alcid=1 agdpmod=pikera

GPU Performance Improved

Over the past few days we’ve been looking into why the GPU performance was lower on an AMD hackintosh and narrowed it down to one patch. After many tests and reboots we can now say the issue has been solved. Patches have been updated on the AMD OS X GitHub.

The New AMD OS X

I’ve taken the decision to start the forum a fresh at the current subdomain ( https://forum.amd-osx.com ). The main reason for this is to clean it up. There are alot of dead topics and outdated information on the old forum. With this fresh start I hope to keep this version tidier and better moderated. The old version will still be accessible here, https://amd-osx.com/forum/

Unfortunately I don’t have a clean way to import the existing user database without it creating a mess so you will need to re-register. Once you’ve done so please feel free to re-create any topics here like your Success Story for example or a recent support topic.

Anyone who had donated on the previous forum please send me a private message with your forum username and email for the old version and I’ll correct your rank here.

If there are any queries feel free to send me a private message.

Thanks and Welcome to AMD OS X V2

An update on supported hardware

There seems to be a lot of confusion on what hardware is supported and what isn’t over here at AMD OS X. In this post I will specifically be addressing CPUs, however if you are looking for information about GPUs or wireless cards, you can find that at the following addresses:

A general list of unsupported hardware can be found on the URL linked below, but the CPU section of it may not always be fully up to date. This article will always have the latest information in it.

Supported CPU list

Fully supported:

Zen:
Ryzen 3 1200 up to Ryzen 7 1800X, including all X series chips in that lineup.
Threadripper 1900X, 1920X, 1950X

Zen+:
Ryzen 3 2300X up to Ryzen 7 2700X including all X and MAX series chips, excluding all G series chips in that lineup.
Threadripper 2920X, 2950x, 2970WX, 2990WX

Zen2:
Ryzen 5 3500 up to Ryzen 9 3950X, including all X and MAX series chips, excluding all G series chips in that lineup.

Zen3:
Ryzen 5 5600X upto the Ryzen 9 5950X

TX40 3000-series Threadripper CPUs:
Threadripper 3960X
Threadripper 3970X
Threadripper 3990X

  • 15/16h:
All of the APUs belonging to the following families do not have a supported iGPU, but are otherwise fully supported.
    • Bulldozer
    • Piledriver
    • Steamroller
    • Excavator
    • Trinity
    • Richland
    • Kaveri
    • Carrizo
    • Bristol Ridge

The following chips, largely APUs, are supported, but not recommended due to the audio issues in macOS. The iGPU is also not supported.

  • Ryzen:
    • Zen (Raven Ridge):
      • Athlon 200 GE up to Athlon 240 GE
      • Athlon 3000G
      • Ryzen 3 2200GE up to Ryzen 5 Pro 2400G, including all Pro series chips in that lineup.
    • Zen+ (Picasso):
      • Athlon Pro 300GE
      • Ryzen 3 3200G up to Ryzen 5 Pro 3400G, including all Pro series chips in that lineup.

Laptop CPUs/APUs belonging to any of these families will boot, however are not supported by us due to the lack of iGPU support and power management and due to chipset issues.

Opteron and EPYC CPUs belonging to any of these families are largely untested, however should boot, and we’d love to hear from you if you do manage to test them.

Any CPU (family) not on this list can be can be presumed unsupported. This is especially true for the Ryzen families, 15/16h might have some odd-ones out. If you find any inconsistencies, you can contact the creator of this post on the AMD OS X Discord server, with the tag is NoOne#8086

macOS Catalina is on AMD

For the first time in AMD hackintosh history, AMD patches for macOS were released the same day as the OS. This is purely down to Algrey utilizing the Mask kernel patching feature offered by OpenCore.

Below you’ll find the updated patches which allow a smooth upgrade to macOS Catalina.

Depending on the SMBios you choose the system may panic on AppleMCEReporter. To fix this simply inject this kext, https://files.amd-osx.com/AppleMCEReporterDisabler.kext.zip

Again if the system fails to boot your system may be reporting an EC device. Simply load this SSDT to fix that, https://files.amd-osx.com/SSDT-EC0.aml

Vanilla Patches Updated for 10.14.6 (18G84)

The AMD Vanilla Kernel Patches have been updated for 10.14.6 (18G84) for 15h_16h and Zen (17h).

Hi, is there a relevant guide for open core installation and how to properly patch the config file? I can’t seem to get it to boot properly, always getting a random seed error.

Are there limited GPUs that can be used?

Everyone is saying that, you need a discrete GPU to run mac OS with 2400G.

That’s correct. The integrated Vega GPU does not work on macOS.

I have this CPU and a Vega 64. I am having the same crackling noise issue since MacOS High Sierra because of the IGPU (at least that’s what I think the reason is). In High Sierra you could simply update the kernel, but in Mojave or Catalina, there is no kernel patch to fix it. Is there any other way to fix it?

Im about to try this so will update you when I know more

I’m still really new to hackintosh, i’ve tried multiple times and i’m not sure if I am making a minor mistake that stops everything from working. I’m on a Ryzen 1700x, Vega 64 with an NVME Primary SSD. I’ve tried in the past using the nvme as a boot drive with MacOS but apparently it wasn’t supported at the time so I tried a standard sata SSD.

If I want to create a partition for a Hackintosh would I be okay using the Catalina build here; Or would I need to start with something else then upgrade. Is there anything to be worried about with previous clover on other partitions? Is there a definitive guide to using AMD OSX that I have been poorly overlooking all this time?

GREAT and THANKS!

I’ve trouble to change the CPU name at Apple system info where yours shows Ryzen 5 3600. Could you link a guide? Changing appleinfo….kext and string file edig wont work for me or I did it wrong.

Will this work for fx8350 with gtx 950? thank you!

No. You need an amd graphics card as well. The last supported macOS version that carried nvidia support, at least for now, was High Sierra

Will this work with just the 2400g? I couldn’t get it to work before in previous attempts, wondering if it would work Catalina.

Yes but you’ll need a GPU. The integrated Vega 11 doesn’t work on macOS.

I have an Asrock a320 +R52600 + RX580, can I follow the steps with this mobo?

Hello,
Sorry if I’m out of line here, but I’m not able to find any confirmed info.

I’m planning to upgrade my laptop, and get a ryzen based laptop on black Friday.

Something similar to this one:
Asus TUF FX505DT-WB72 Gaming Laptop: Ryzen 7 3750H, GTX 1650

Being an old hackintosh user, I couldn’t use my old laptops gfx card because of optimus. So, I was relying on Intel HD graphics.

Now, if I go for the above said laptop, will the gtx 1650 work on ryzentosh? And more importantly, will the mac os work on this laptop?

Hello. AMD Laptops are generally not supported on macOS. If you want a laptop for macOS get one with a supported Intel CPU with supported iGPU.

OK thanks. I’ll hit the discord for more clarifications.

What about Vanilla Patches for Clover r5098 and macOS 10.15.1?

Patches are being worked on.

The patches are only for OpenCore, right?

No they are for Clover too but OpenCore supports more versions.

I got Asrock x570 itx/tb3, ryzen 9 3900x with 32 gb ram and 2080ti and i would like to also have mac os to play with.

I never did this so is there any proper tutorial on how to do this?

Your GPU is unsupported with macOS.

Hi,
i have AMD FX 8370E and R9 290 Can i install catalina ?

Hello, I’m currently running macOS Catalina 10.15 and want to upgrade to 10.15.2. There is no kernel patches for 10.15.2 yet. Can I upgrade to 10.15.2 with 10.15.1 kernel patches?

You can update if you use OpenCore as your bootloader. Wait for Clover patches to be updated.

I am new to Hackintosh.

I prepared the Installer but my mainboard failed to boot from the usb drive (no boot media detected).

I have a Gigabyte F2A88XN-Wifi . Where should I start?

My CPU is A10-7850K. Using GPU in the APU with 16GB of memory.

Is your board UEFI? The installer won’t work on a legacy board.
