What is the Difference Between the Standard Version and I-Version of the H-Series Cases?

The primary difference between the i-version and the standard version of these cases is the inclusion of our Smart Device v2 in the i-version along with preinstalled LED strips. The H210i includes one LED strip, whereas the H510i, and H710i include two LED Strips. The Smart Device is capable of handling LED lighting settings and fan control through our CAM software.

The included Smart Device v2 can control LED lighting for any of our first-generation LED products in the same line as our Gen 1/Gen 2 RGB Controller. As such, LED Strips included with the Gen 1/Gen 2 RGB Controller can be used with the Smart Device v2. The H510i is also capable of vertical GPU mounting, whereas the H510 is not.

How Many Case Fans Can the Smart Device Support?

How many fans your Smart Device v2 is able to support depends on the wattage of the fans. Each fan channel of the Smart Device can support up to 10W of power. Exceeding 10W will result in a buggy or inconsistent performance, and/or total shutdown of the channel or device.

For reference, our H-series cases include our Aer F fans. The 120mm version of this fan uses 2.16W per fan, and the 140mm version uses 3.84W per fan. As such, each fan channel of the Smart Device can control up to four 120mm fans, or two 140mm fans.

H-Series Smart Device Fans Not Spinning?

If you are experiencing issues with your Smart Device v2 fans not spinning up we recommend you check the specifications on those fans. The Smart Device supports up to ten watts (10W) of power draw per channel. If a fan exceeds this threshold it will trigger the fail-safe the Grid has and shut off all fans. If this is the case, you need to disconnect that fan from the Smart Device.

To do so, first power down your system fully and turn off your power supply. Wait 10 seconds and disconnect the fan. Next, turn your system on and the remaining fans should start spinning. If they do not spin, please contact our Customer Support Team for further assistance.

How Many LED Strips Can The Smart Device v2 Support?

Through the LED channel, the Smart Device can support up to 4 RGB Gen 1/2 Led Strips. The Smart Device is only included in the i-version of the H-Series cases.

Can the Smart Device support AER RGB 2 fans?

Yes. However, the Smart Device v2 cannot support both LED Strips and AER RGB 2 fans at the same time. These devices cannot be connected in tandem with one another through the LED port. You can use the Smart Device for either AER RGB 2 fans OR for LED Strips. If used for AER RGB 2 fans, you can connect up to 5 at once to the LED port.

My I/O Front Panel Connectors Do Not Fit Into My Motherboard. Am I Missing Something?

In order for our cases to be used with certain AMD and smaller manufacturer’s motherboards, we have a breakout adapter cable that will detach the Intel F-panel port pin convention into separate pins. The breakout cable should be found in the accessory box included with your H-Series case.

Can I use the AER Trim product with the stock case fans?

Unfortunately, the AER trim only works with the AER P and AER F fans offered individually.

They will not work with the stock case fans in the H-series cases.

How Do I Mount My GPU Vertically With The H510i?

The H510i is capable of supporting a vertical GPU mount. However, the H510i does not include a 90-degree PCIe riser, which is necessary for a vertical GPU mount. While we do not supply this part, it is very common on third-party hardware sites.

My CAM Powered Device Is Not Recognized

Unfortunately, sometimes CAM can stop recognizing your CAM-powered hardware. This is typically caused by changes to your system’s software or hardware. Here are some troubleshooting steps to fix this issue.

If your hardware is not recognized and you have a Kraken X31, X41, X42, X52, X53, X61, X62, X63, X72, or X73 we have a chipset driver that you can install. To download this file, press the «Download» button on the top right of the page and then press «Direct Download». This will produce a file with a .zip extension. Make sure to extract this zip file in order to install the file. For Z53, Z63, and Z73 coolers, you do not need such a driver.

Then right-click the AseUSB.inf file and select «Install». This will install the driver for your Kraken coolers. Once installed, restart your PC.

If your CAM-powered device is still not recognized in CAM, then you will need to remove the current driver from your system for that hardware. To do this, search for the «Control Panel» in your Windows search bar. Once in your Windows Control Panel, select the «View Devices and Printers» option:

Under the «Unspecified» section in this menu, you will see some devices listed here. Right-click and select «Remove device» for any devices labeled as Asetek USB Device, MCP2200 USB Serial Port Emulator, NZXT USB Device, USB212C HID Device, or Unknown USB Device. Once this is done, restart your PC.

If your CAM device is still not recognized then this could be an issue with the USB connection from the CAM Powered Device to your motherboard. To verify this, please try switching the USB cable from your device to a different internal USB header. Make sure your system is fully powered down when you do this and that you can verify the internal USB header you are switching to is fully functional.

Once the USB header is switched, power on your system. If your CAM-powered device is now recognized in CAM, then it’s possible the previously-used USB header on your motherboard may be defective. Please contact your motherboard manufacturer to verify this.

If your CAM-powered device is still not recognized, depending on the product you have, you may need to get it replaced with the Customer Support Team as it could have a defective USB cable. The following products need to be replaced if the USB cable is defective:

  • Kraken X31, X41, X61
  • Cryorig H7 Quad Lumi
  • H-Series Smart Device

If your device is an M22, X42, X52, X62, X72, Hue Plus, Hue 2, Hue 2 Ambient, Grid v2, or Grid V3, then we can test the USB cable.

For all Kraken coolers, the USB cable included supports Mini USB. Using a standard Mini USB to the USB data cable, connect your Kraken cooler to a functioning USB port on the front or rear I/O of your system.

For the Hue Plus, Hue 2, Hue 2 Ambient, Grid v2, and Grid v3, the USB cable included supports Micro USB. Using a standard Micro USB to the USB data cable, connect these products to a functioning USB port on the front or rear I/O of your system.

If your devices are recognized again, this would indicate a bad USB cable from these devices. If your device is still not recognized, then it is likely the hardware is defective. We can take care of this and replace this defective hardware as long as you are within your warranty period still. Please contact our Customer Support Team for further assistance.

How can I leave feedback on NZXT CAM software?

What information does NZXT CAM send back to NZXT? Why does CAM have no “offline option”?

NZXT CAM can operate while fully offline and does not require an internet connection when ran in «Guest Mode». However, NZXT CAM does use an internet connection for the following:

  • Checking for, downloading, and installing updates
  • Logging in, and backing up user settings to the cloud so they can be recovered in the event of local data loss
  • Allowing users to submit tickets and access our online help portal.

NZXT CAM sends the following information to NZXT when logged in to an account or in guest mode.

  • Anonymized usage data, which NZXT uses to make improvements to NZXT CAM
  • Anonymized performance data, which NZXT uses to make performance estimates around game performance on different systems.

All functions except for the auto-updating of the CAM software can be disabled in the General tab under «Privacy».

What information does NZXT CAM back up to the cloud?

NZXT CAM backs up and stores the following information:

  • Game performance data, including the total time played and FPS data
  • Saved lighting profiles
  • Saved cooling profiles
  • Saved overclocking profiles
  • Custom device names you created for your components

All of this information should be restored in the event of a local data loss.

What is cam_helper.exe?

Cam_helper.exe is a sub-process that NZXT CAM uses to increase stability. Since some of our features, primarily drawing the overlay, are dependent on the operation of other programs, they are managed via cam_helper.exe. In the event that the process fails unexpectedly, NZXT CAM can continue running as expected.

Why are the temperature, load, or frequency readings for my devices inaccurate?

Different hardware monitoring tools use different sample rates to determine the temperature, usage, and other readings from your devices. This can lead to inconsistencies across different monitoring tools but doesn’t mean that any tool is more or less accurate. If you feel that there is a gross inaccuracy in your devices’ readings, please submit a support ticket here and we would be more than happy to help!

Can CAM control 3rd party RGB devices?

At this time, CAM only has the ability to control RGB RAM via ASUS’s Aura Sync API Service. We do not have plans for any other 3rd party RGB support at this time.

Can CAM control my fans without having an NZXT Fan Controller?

CAM is only able to control fan speeds via a compatible NZXT fan controller. Devices such as the Smart Device V2, RGB & Fan Controller, Grid V3, Kraken X2 Coolers, Kraken Z3 Coolers, and any of our NZXT N7 Motherboards can control fan speeds for devices connected to them.

Will CAM come to Linux or Mac OS?
At this time there are no plans to bring CAM to other platforms such as Linux or Mac OS. CAM V4 was designed from the ground up for Windows 10. There are 3rd party alternatives that would allow you to use CAM devices on Linux, but these can potentially void your warranty, so we recommend against them.

Do I need CAM to control my NZXT devices?

For our cooling and lighting products, CAM is required and your cooling products may not even operate at the correct speed for your system’s temperatures.

Can I downgrade to an older version of CAM?

We currently do not offer previous versions of CAM for download unless for troubleshooting various bugs.

NZXT HUE 2 and Smart Device V2 controllers

The NZXT HUE 2 lighting system is a refresh of the original HUE+. The main improvement is the ability to mix Aer RGB 2 fans and HUE 2 lighting accessories (e.g. HUE 2 LED strip, HUE 2 Underglow, HUE 2 Cable Comb) in a channel. HUE+ devices, including the original Aer RGB fans, are also supported, but HUE 2 components cannot be mixed with HUE+ components in the same channel.

Each channel supports up to 6 accessories and a total of 40 LEDs, and the firmware exposes several color presets, most of them common to other NZXT products.

All configuration is done through USB, and persists as long as the device still gets power, even if the system has gone to Soft Off (S5) state. Most capabilities available at the hardware level are supported, but other features offered by CAM, like noise level optimization and presets based on CPU/GPU temperatures, have not been implemented.

The NZXT HUE 2 controller features four lighting channels.

The NZXT HUE 2 Ambient controller features two lighting channels.

NZXT Smart Device V2

The NZXT Smart Device V2 is a HUE 2 variant of the original Smart Device fan and LED controller, that ships with NZXT’s cases released in mid-2019 including the H510 Elite, H510i, H710i, and H210i.

It provides two HUE 2 lighting channels and three independent fan channels with standard 4-pin connectors. Both PWM and DC fan control is supported, and the device automatically chooses the appropriate mode for each channel; the device also reports the state of each fan channel, as well as speed and duty (from 0% to 100%).

A microphone is still present onboard for noise level optimization through CAM and AI.

NZXT RGB & Fan Controller

The NZXT RGB & Fan Controller is a retail version of the NZXT Smart Device V2.

After powering on from Mechanical Off, or if there have been hardware changes, the device must first be initialized. Only then monitoring, proper fan control and all lighting effects will be available. The firmware version and the connected LED accessories are also reported during device initialization.

The device can report fan information for each channel and the noise level at the onboard sensor

Always check that the settings are appropriate for the use case, and that they correctly apply and persist.

LED channels are numbered sequentially: led1 , led2 , (only HUE 2: led3 , led4 ). Color modes can be set independently for each lighting channel, but the specified color mode will then apply to all devices daisy chained on that channel. There is also a sync channel.

Colors can be specified in RGB, HSV or HSL (see Supported color specification formats), and each animation mode supports different number of colors. The animation speed can be customized with the —speed , and five relative values are accepted by the device: slowest , slower , normal , faster and fastest .

Some of the color animations can be in either the forward or backward direction. This can be specified by using the —direction flag.
