Nvidia GTX 1060/1650

Windows?

Windows 10

Windows 10

Windows 10

Windows 10 1809 and Nvidia GPU compatibility

Okay so a few weeks ago I purchased a copy of Windows 10 Home, my first installation went fine and everything seemed to be working. I have a gaming computer that I built myself and that is mainly what I use my computer for. After the installation I installed Steam so I could download my games and at first it appeared there was no issues, but within a few days I was having issues. Regardless of what game I play, after about 30 minutes to an hour into the game I would get a BSOD (CRTICAL_PROCESS_DIED) and then my computer would reboot and appear to be working again. It only would crash when running games.

After hours upon hours of research I found the issue may have been with the drivers that windows had installed upon installation (I always preformed a clean install, formatting my hard drive each time) so I went through my driver’s and they were all up-to-date with the newest drivers available, except for my GPU driver. I thought I had finally found the source of all my greif. After upgrading the driver this only made things worse, causing more frequent crashes. I sought Microsoft support and together we came to the conclusion that my installation had gone bad upon discovering that the hardware and device troubleshooter was missing entierly so the technician advised to try reinstalling Windows to resolve the issue (only to find out in later research apparently Microsoft had removed it, you’d think the technician’s would be in the loop but clearly that’s not the case). 5 installations later and I am still experiencing the same issues.

I have tried literally every fix found on the internet, i tried sfc scan, i tried dism check, updating my GPU driver (which only made things worse), updating my bios, trying to update chipset drivers, i checked my RAM for errors, tried reseating my GPU, tried only using one monitor because apparently there’s issues with Windows 10 and dual monitor. All of this to no avail.

After further research (day 5) I found that there were commonly issues between Nvidia GPU drivers and cards overall and Windows 10. So now i have removed my GPU since apparently it has caused me all this trouble and am using my on board display, which wouldn’t be a problem but this is a gaming PC and without the GPU is practically useless for anything but netflix and checking emails. I would very much like to be able to utilize Windows AND my Nvidia GPU but nothing works. Does anyone have a possible solution?

Netflix HDR On Windows 10 Only Supported on Intel or Nvidia GPUs

Netflix sends word it will support HDR through its app and Edge on a PC running Windows 10. Here is the thing, only Intel GPUs (integrated) starting at Kaby Lake processors or newer, as well as Nvidia GTX1050 GPUs and upwards, are supported. AMD GPUs are not supported.

To make the magic happen you will be required to have the Windows 10 Creators Fall (1709) update installed, reports tweakers. For dedicated graphics cards, a Geforce GTX1050, GTX1060, GTX1070 or GTX1080 or better is supported, you need at least 3GB of graphics memory as well. Netflix, however, does not explain why HDR on AMD GPUs is not supported. Basically, all it needs is 10-bit support, and we know that Vega for certain can handle it.

Netflix — » We are thrilled to announce the addition of High Dynamic Range (HDR) support on Windows 10 for both the Edge browser and the Netflix app. With this update, Netflix members who have a supported device and a premium plan can enjoy amazing Netflix movies and shows in HDR. With HDR enabled, fans can immerse themselves in the delicious colors of Chef’s Table, the terrifying depths of the Upside Down in Stranger Things 2, and enjoy the upcoming Netflix film Bright starring Will Smith. And this is just the beginning! Today, we have over 200 hours of HDR entertainment, and in 2018 even more HDR PCs will enter the market and support the growing number of Netflix originals.

This feature is the culmination of a multi-year collaboration between Netflix and a number of industry partners. Intel’s 7th generation and higher CPUs provide that capability needed to play the Netflix HDR10 encodes. In addition, both Intel and Nvidia developed GPUs that use 10 bits-per-channel for each of the RGB colors, increasing the color space that can be represented. With this new hardware available in consumer PCs, Netflix and Microsoft partnered together to put the software pieces in place. Microsoft added the necessary OS and browser changes in their Windows 10 Fall Creators Update and our engineers integrated against those APIs to complete the video player work.»

I just prefer having an HTPC in my bedroom. I dont use a massive TV for watching in bed. My gaming setup takes up half my room, then I have my sever/desk as well, then my small entertainment setup in front of my bed. If a 30 inch 4K smart TV is cheap enough then I would get it if it uses ethernet. Not trying to stream 4k on 2.4ghz wireless. The 5Gghz 2nd channel on the nighthawk X6 is garbage when using at a repeater bridge.

There is still an Nvidia GPU in there but it’s a complete 4K HDR solution for only 149 US$ (Remote only edition on discount this Christmas), the best media player:

Yes, 4K HDR on Netflix (among others).

I did always want one, but saw no point without a 4k TV. I thought about just getting the cheapest 4k PC monitor. Hell Im using a PC monitor with my HTPC anyways. I dont need HDR, it would be nice. But ive had 1080p on my HTPC for 10 years now.

Time to upgrade.

I’m still at 1080p too, my 60′ plasma must resist one more year until i buy a 4K OLED with HDMI 2.1.

I also have a dedicated HTPC but it acts as NAS/Live TV PVR server for the Shield TV now.

Even at only 1080p Shield TV is the ultimate Kodi (SPMC) box, the hardware (Tegra X1) has so much advantage over other media players competition after near 2 years on the market it’s ridiculous. His SoC underclocked is enough to power Nintendo Switch.

The support for this 2 years old device (2017 refresh was only cosmetic and stripping some ports) impressed me: official firmware upgrades from KitKat to Nougat and Oreo is coming too.

When the next SoC upgrade with HDMI 2.1 is out i will be in line to buy it.

#5504004 Posted on: 12/24/2017 01:08 AM @Multiple people complaining about the lack of nvidia 9xx card support
Nvidia 1xxx cards support HDMI 2.0a which is needed to display HDR content, 9xx cards don’t. This has always been the case since the hdmi controller on the board for 9xx cards physically doesn’t support it. There is nothing Nvidia could possibly do to change that.

/Thread filled with people who did no research before posting

You guys have GOT to stop jumping straight to conspiracy theories whenever something older isn’t supported.

Edit: I should point out for those that don’t know that the gpu ultimately doesn’t matter for this. It’s the HDMI/video controller chip on the board. If you take a look at your graphics card you should see it right next to the ports.

Supported Compute Debugger Configurations

Legacy and Next-Gen CUDA Debuggers

CUDA Debugger support for Pascal and Volta family GPUs is undergoing a transition that requires a new Nsight Visual Studio Edition compute debugger we are calling Next-Gen.

The ‘Legacy’ compute debugger, provided in Nsight Visual Studio Edition 6.0 and earlier, will not support Pascal (or later) GPUs running with TCC mode drivers or Volta (or later) GPUs in either TCC or WDDM mode.

The ‘Next-Gen’ compute debugger will support Pascal, Volta, and Turing GPUs.

Starting with Nsight Visual Studio Edition 5.5, both the Legacy and Next-Gen compute debuggers are available on the Visual Studio NSIGHT menu.

In Nsight Visual Studio Edition 5.5 and 5.6,

  • Pascal and Volta hardware may be debugged in the TCC driver mode using the Next-Gen CUDA debugger
  • Pascal GPUs may be debugged in the WDDM driver mode using the Legacy CUDA debugger
  • Maxwell and earlier GPUs may be debugged using the Legacy CUDA debugger

In Nsight Visual Studio Edition version 6.0 thru 2019.4, the Next-Gen CUDA debugger supports

  • Turing family GPU debugging in the TCC driver mode
  • Pascal, Volta, and Turing family GPU debugging in the WDDM driver mode with 410.29 or later drivers and win10 RS4 or later using the Next-Gen CUDA debugger
  • See Supported configurations as of v2019.4

In Nsight Visual Studio Edition version 2020.1 and later,

  • Next-Gen CUDA debugger
    • Supports NVIDIA A100 GPU debugging (note that TCC driver mode is the only supported mode for r445 and r450 drivers)
    • Supports Pascal, Volta, and Turing family GPU debugging in both TCC & WDDM driver mode with win10 RS4 or later
    • 445.53 or later drivers are required as of Nsight VSE version 2020.1 to use the latest Next-Gen debugger
    • Win 7 support has been dropped
  • Legacy CUDA debugger
    • Supports Maxwell family GPU debugging in both TCC & WDDM driver mode
    • 445.53 or later drivers are required as of Nsight VSE version 2020.1 to use WDDM on the latest Legacy debugger
    • Win 7 support has been dropped
    • Kepler Family GPU support has been dropped or deprecated

Please refer to the table below for supported compute debugger, driver, GPU, and OS configurations.
