Just open a command shell and type (saying your port is 123456):

Then kill the process by PID

However; be aware that the more accurate you can be the more precise your PID result will be. If you know which host the port is supposed to be on you can narrow it down a lot. netstat -aon | findstr «0.0.0.0:9999» will only return one application and most llikely the correct one. Only searching on the port number may cause you to return processes that only happens to have 9999 in it, like this:

The most likely candidate usually ends up first, but if the process has ended before you run your script you may end up with PID 12331 instead and killing the wrong process.

Step 1. Get the TextEdit

• Right-click the PID file and choose Open with option
• Select Choose another app в†’ More apps
• The last step is to select Look for another app on this PC option supply the directory path to the folder where TextEdit is installed. Now all that is left is to confirm your choice by selecting Always use this app to open PID files and clicking OK .

• Right-click the PID file and select Information
• Open the Open with section by clicking its name
• From the list choose the appropriate program and confirm by clicking Change for all. .
• A message window should appear informing that This change will be applied to all files with PID extension. By clicking Continue you confirm your selection.

Step 4. Verify that the PID is not faulty

Should the problem still occur after following steps 1-3, check if the PID file is valid. It is probable that the file is corrupted and thus cannot be accessed.

1. The PID may be infected with malware – make sure to scan it with an antivirus tool.

If the file is infected, the malware that resides in the PID file hinders attempts to open it. Immediately scan the file using an antivirus tool or scan the whole system to ensure the whole system is safe. If the scanner detected that the PID file is unsafe, proceed as instructed by the antivirus program to neutralize the threat.

2. Verify that the PID file’s structure is intact

Did you receive the PID file in question from a different person? Ask him/her to send it one more time. The file might have been copied erroneously and the data lost integrity, which precludes from accessing the file. When downloading the file with PID extension from the internet an error may occurred resulting in incomplete file. Try downloading the file again.

3. Ensure that you have appropriate access rights

Sometimes in order to access files user need to have administrative privileges. Switch to an account that has required privileges and try opening the Process ID Format file again.

4. Check whether your system can handle TextEdit

If the systems has insufficient resources to open PID files, try closing all currently running applications and try again.

5. Verify that your operating system and drivers are up to date

Can’t open PID file /var/run/*.pid (yet?)

Предыстория: писал эту статью, обнаружив проблему с NGINX, который выдавал «Can’t open PID file /var/run/nginx.pid (yet?)» , но оказалось, что ещё куча пакетов ругается на «Too many levels of symbolic links«. К примеру, mysqld и fail2ban.

Обновил Centos с версии 7.6 до 7.7 на рабочем сервере с сайтами и получил пару незабываемых часов острых ощущений. Обновление прошло успешно, но после перезагрузки NGINX работал ровно 1 минуту и падал. При падении NGINX отключались все сайты на сервере. Оказалось, решение довольно простое, но на поиски ушло пара часов.

Сначала определил, что падение происходит именно из-за NGINX. Для этого пришлось пару раз перезагрузить сервер и убедиться, что работа сайтов длится 1 минуту. После чего всё становится недоступным. Процесс NGINX самопроизвольно просто завершался. Перевёл NGINX в режим error_log . debug, но и тут ничего странного не увидел. Тогда проверил состояние NGINX командой:

Первая строчка «activating (start)» довольно странная, потому что она говорит о том, что программа находится на запуске, но ещё не запустилось. Что-то мешает ей. Последняя строчка «Can’t open PID file /var/run/nginx.pid (yet?)» сигнализировала о том, что PID файла процесса NGINX куда-то девается. При этом я вижу его в папке /var/run/, могу открыть из-под пользователя, от которого запускается NGINX. Но почему-то файл удаляется раз в минуту.

Решил перенести место сохранения PID файла. На мысль натолкнула фраза «Too many levels of symbolic links«, ведь /var/run/ — это не папка, а ссылка на папку /run/. Поэтому изменил место PID файла NGINX с /var/run/nginx.pid на /run/nginx.pid в файлах /etc/nginx/nginx.conf и /lib/systemd/system/nginx.service. После чего выполнил команду, чтобы изменения в systemd вступили в силу:

И перезагрузил NGINX:

Всё запустилось отлично. Проверил, вызвав статус:
