How do I open the same project twice? Follow

I want to know how and if I can open the same project twice.

I think that would make it easier to navigate.
If I for example have all design/css in one window and php in the other, I aslo want to have different folder structure in them.

Is this possible? Or are there any other way to do something simular?

Technically that is possible, but I do not see real need for this.

You can define multiple Custom Scopes (Settings | Scopes) to include only files/folders you are interested in and then switch between them in Project View panel when desired (use drop down box on top left of it).

Hmm, not quite what I was looking for. (maybe I’m doing it wrong)

But I don’t want the same tabs or anything.

Normaly this is not a problem, but right now I’m working with Magento and there are a lot of folders for css/design and also for different php files.
I feel like that choose window to work with would make it easier to find correct file (tab).

Why I came up with this idea is because I have worked with a part of the prodject in local folders in a new window when I tested, and then I could Alt+Tab between them and I found that to be a nice way to work 🙂

Well . technically you cannot open exactly the same project twice in the same IDE. The project is identified by project settings/configuration, which is normally stored in .idea subfolder. This prevents particular IDE from opening the same project twice (at the same time).

What you can do here — is some workaround, which will allow you to open the same folders/files (or whatever) in 2 different projects (which means 2 different PhpStorm windows). The general idea is here: http://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/WI-343

What you need to do in your case (if so desired):

1. Go to anywhere where you want to keep your project settings (e.g. C:\MyProjects)
2. In PhpStorm create new empty project there (e.g. C:\MyProjects\PHPonly)
3. Go to «Settings | Directories» and detach current Content Root
4. Now attach new Content Root with the files of your actual project (e.g. mark unwanted folders as Excluded on the same settings page)
5. Repeat #2-#4 but for another folders/files (e.g. C:\MyProjects\CSSonly)

In the end you will have 2 separate projects (each has it’s own configuration but can work with the same source files) which you can open in separate IDE windows.

Fix Control Panel opens twice in Windows 10

Some Windows 10 users are experiencing a strange issue with the operating system. Every time they open the Control Panel, two windows of Explorer open instead of a single window which is what’s expected. If you have this issue, here is how to fix it easily.

This problem also happens if you open the Control Panel from the Win + X menu. Windows 10 also comes with the Power user menu and includes exactly the same items as Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.

Here is why it happens. Due to some bug, Windows 10 opens Control Panel twice if you have enabled the option «Launch folder windows in a separate process» in File Explorer. To fix this behavior, you need to disable that option. Do the following:

1. Open File Explorer.
2. Click the File button and pick «Change folder and search options»:
3. Go to the View tab and untick Launch folder windows in a separate process:

That’s it. This behavior will probably be fixed in the release version of Windows 10 or even with the next build.

Working as well, fixed the annoying when selecting a download in chrome and trying to “Show in folder”.

Folders open up twice in different windows

So I noticed a problem some time ago. It is annoying and I’ve been looking for a solution but I didn’t find it.

I usually open folders through file manager on my taskbar. Then I open up a folder in a quick acces menu on the left.

This folder opens in the same window. But after digging into the last folder, it opens in the new window and even twice!

No, I don’t have a ‘one-click to open a folder’ option turned on. No, I don’t have a double-click reaction set too slow. And No, I don’t have ‘open in separate window’ option set — as I tell you, this happens only with the last folder.

I don’t know what to do! Nobody on the Internet doesn’t have the same issue as I do. I can’t do a format because my computer is a sort of a workstation.

All my files on disk C would be gone and overall this is too much work to deal with if I had to do this goddamn format.

Does anybody know how to fix this annoying thing?

Nothing helped. Still having this problem.

I noticed that when I cleared the history of recently opened folders, the issue dissapears.

But after a day or two, this problem shows up again.

We would like to know more information since the issue still exist after doing SFC and DISM. Please answer the following questions:

• Have you have tried clicking Restore Defaults in Folder Options under General tab?
• Have you tried moving the affected folder to a different location and check if it will do the same thing?

Restore Defaults didn’t help and changing the location of the folder don’t make any sense because it happens to every folders in quick acces tab.

Since using Restore Defaults in File Explorer Options did not fix the issue. We suggest that you check and install the latest Windows updates by going to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update > Check for updates.

Let us start your computer in safe mode.

This will disable other services that are not essential in turning on your computer, and possibly causing the folders not to work as expected.

Please follow these steps on how to log-in in safe mode:

1. Press Windows logo key Windows logo key + I on your keyboard to open Settings. If that doesn’t work, select the Start button in the lower-left corner of your screen, then select Settings.
2. Select Update & security > Recovery .
3. Under Advanced startup, select Restart now.
4. After your PC restarts to the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
5. After your PC restarts, you’ll see a list of options. Select 4 or F4 to start your PC in Safe Mode. Or if you’ll need to use the Internet, select 5 or F5 for Safe Mode with Networking.

open() what happens if I open twice the same file?

If I open the same file twice, will it give an error, or will it create two different file descriptors? For example

In this case, since you’re opening both files as read-only, you will get two different file descriptors that refer to the same file. See the man page for open for more details.

To complement what @Drew McGowen has said,

In fact, in this case, when you call open() twice on the same file, you get two different file descriptors pointing to the same file (same physical file). BUT, the two file descriptors are indepedent in that they point to two different open file descriptions(an open file description is an entry in the system-wide table of open files).

So read operations performed later on the two file descriptors are independent, you call read() to read one byte from the first descriptor, then you call again read()on the second file descriptor, since thier offsets are not shared, both read the same thing.

This will output aabbccddeeffgghhiijjkkllmmnnooppqqrrssttuuvvwwxxyyzz

It will create a new entry in the file descriptor table and the file table. But both the entries (old and new) in the file table will point to the same entry in the inode table.

Strange one I can’t seem to figure out and tye down.

We have a user that has been having problems with Excel spreadsheets particularly but sometimes Word.

When they click to open the file it will sometimes open two instances of Excel/Word — one with the document and the other is empty. No idea what this could be.

Tried:
I have made sure they don’t click twice. twice. I have even done it myself and it happened.
Reinstall of Office on their PC running CCleaner and deleting the Program Files\\ entry between.
Complete machine swap.
Saved a copy of the file as Excel Workbook .xlsx

Has anybody else came across this? Could it be a profile thing? Or more likely bad file?

Microsoft Office 2007
Original Excel 1997-2003 Workbook (but same happens with .xlsx)

Rejuvenate is an IT service provider.

It is quite a weird issue you are having. Is it viable for you to try copying the data into a new spreadsheet and try to open it then?

You could also try opening excel and then opening the document. It might be that the document itself thinks it is 2 documents for some weird reason.

If neither of these work, do you have a machine with office 2010 on it to see if it works? I understand you have tried it as .xlsx as well.

Worth a try copying the data into the new sheet I thought of aswell but the thing is it sometimes doesn’t do it for days then randomly does it loads in one morning, today for instance. Hasn’t been reported for days but happened a lot so far today.

Ill suggest the user just opens Excel first thanks.

We don’t have any machines running Office 2010 to try with.

that looks to me a simple matter as too much clicks to open a document.

if you double click two times the same file, it will open it one time, and will open other excel/word with no file.

See if the user is having mouse issues, some mouse after some use tend to have issues with clicking, making people pressing more often on stuff for it to work, or is simply pressing too much on files, it used to happen to me alot, because laptop was slow, i click excel document it didnt open imediatly i would press again, causing it to open twice, one with document other without it.

Forgot to say they have also had a a new mouse and keyboard. I will try adjusting the mouse click settings now that you mention it.

As you might have set the option «At startup to open all files in» to the folder that you are storing these excel files.
Manual steps to prevent files from automatically opening in Excel
Use one of the following method to manually prevent files from automatically opening when you start Excel.
Remove files from the XLStart folder and from the alternative startup folders
To remove files from the XLStart folder and from the alternative startup folders, follow these steps:

Start Excel.
Excel 2002 or Excel 2003
On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the General tab.

Excel 2007
Click the Microsoft Office Button, click Excel Options, click the Advanced tab, and then locate the General section.
Note the folder that is listed in the At startup, open all files in box.

Note If you do not want to open any files at startup, delete the contents of this box.
Click OK.
Exit Excel.
Start Microsoft Windows Explorer or double-click My Computer on the desktop.
Locate the following folder:
Excel 2007:
C:\\\\Program Files\\\\Microsoft Office\\\\OFFICE12\\\\XLSTART

Excel 2003:
C:\\\\Program Files\\\\Microsoft Office\\\\OFFICE11\\\\XLSTART
