Oracle VM Windows Paravirtual (PV) Drivers
Accelerate the performance of your virtual environment
Windows paravirtual (PV) drivers are high-performance network and disk drivers that significantly reduce the overhead of the traditional implementation of I/O device emulation. These drivers provide improved network and disk throughput to run fully virtualized Windows guests in an Oracle VM Server for x86 environment.
Oracle VM Windows PV Drivers are signed by Microsoft. Oracle is a participant of Microsoft Windows Server Virtualization Validation Program (SVVP). Windows PV Drivers along with Oracle VM Server for x86 have passed the SVVP requirements, read the details here. The Microsoft SVVP program enables the vendor such as Oracle to validate Oracle VM Server for x86 along with Windows PV Drivers so that Microsoft customers running copies of Windows Server they have acquired and licensed from Microsoft directly can receive technical support for Windows Server in virtualized environments, learn the details of the supported Microsoft server software (e.g. SQL Server, Exchange Server, etc.) here.
With Oracle VM, you can deploy Solaris, Linux, and Windows applications as is and realize the full benefits from virtualization, without compromising performance.
The following Windows guest operating systems are supported with Oracle VM:
- Microsoft Windows Server 2019
- Microsoft Windows Server 2016
- Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2
- Microsoft Windows Server 2012
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008
- Microsoft Windows 10
- Microsoft Windows 8.1

Oracle vm drivers windows
Before You Begin.В Do the following before you start the installation process:
Review the list of supported Microsoft Windows operating systems. See Section 2.2, “Supported Guest Operating Systems”.
You can install the Oracle VM PV Drivers for Microsoft Windows using the graphical installation program or by performing a silent installation. You should use the graphical installation program if you are installing a single instance of the Oracle VM PV Drivers for Microsoft Windows. If you plan to silently install multiple instances of the Oracle VM PV Drivers for Microsoft Windows, you must run the graphical installation program in a command line window on at least one Microsoft Windows guest to create a response file. You can then use the response file to perform all subsequent installations silently.
To install the Oracle VM PV Drivers for Microsoft Windows, do the following:
Create a new virtual machine and install a supported operating system.
Copy the Oracle VM PV Drivers for Microsoft Windows installation program, Setup.exe , to the guest.
Do one of the following:
Double click Setup.exe to start the Oracle VM PV Drivers for Microsoft Windows installer.
Open a command line window and then:
Navigate to the directory where the Setup.exe file is located.
Run Setup.exe -r to start the Oracle VM PV Drivers for Microsoft Windows installer and create a response file for silent installations.
If prompted, select Yes in the User Account Control dialog to allow the Oracle VM PV Drivers for Microsoft Windows installer to proceed.

Check Yes, restart the system now and click Finish . The virtual machine is restarted.
If you used the -r option in the command line, the installation program creates a response file in the C:\Windows directory. You then use the response file, setup.iss , to perform silent installations on other Microsoft Windows guests. See ChapterВ 6, Silently Installing or Upgrading the Oracle VM PV Drivers for Microsoft Windows.

Introduction
Oracle VM is an enterprise-class server virtualization solution comprised of Oracle VM Server for x86, Oracle VM Server for SPARC and Oracle VM Manager.
Oracle VM Manager controls the virtualization environment, creating and monitoring Oracle VM servers and the virtual machines. Oracle VM Manager 3 is an Oracle Fusion Middleware application, based on the Oracle Weblogic Server application server. Oracle VM Manager bundles MySQL Database Enterprise Edition as the management repository.
Oracle VM Server for x86 installs directly on server hardware with x86 Intel or AMD processors and does not require a host operating system. An Oracle VM Server is comprised of a hypervisor and privileged domain (Dom0) that allows multiple domains or virtual machines (i.e. Linux, Solaris, Windows, etc.) to run on one physical machine. The Dom0 runs a process called Oracle VM Agent. The Oracle VM Agent receives and processes management requests, provides event notifications and configuration data to the Oracle VM Manager. Oracle VM Server 3 requires 64-bit x86 hardware, but can support either 64-bit or 32-bit guest virtual machines.
Oracle VM Server for SPARC (previously called Sun Logical Domains, or LDoms) is Oracle’s server virtualization and partitioning technology on Oracle’s SPARC servers. Oracle VM Server for SPARC leverages the SPARC hypervisor to subdivide supported platforms’ resources (CPUs,memory, I/O, and storage) by creating partitions called logical or virtual machines to take advantage of the massive thread scale offered by SPARC servers and the Oracle Solaris operating system.

Oracle VM PV Drivers for Microsoft Windows Release 3.4.5 have not been signed by Microsoft for 32-bit Microsoft Windows operating systems or Microsoft Windows Server 2003. A security alert occurs during installation on a Windows operating system for which Oracle VM PV Drivers for Microsoft Windows are not signed. See Section 9.2, “Security Alert for Unsigned Drivers”.
2.4В Configuration Limits
The following table lists the tested and recommended maximum configuration limits for the Oracle VM PV Drivers for Microsoft Windows.

Virtual CPUs on 64-bit guests
Virtual RAM on 32-bit guests
Virtual RAM on 64-bit guests
Virtual RAM support has been increased to 1024 GB for the following guest operating systems in an Oracle VM Release 3.4.4 or later environment:
Microsoft Windows Server 2019
Microsoft Windows Server 2016
Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2
Microsoft Windows Server 2012
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
Virtual disks / NICs
40 virtual disks / 8 virtual NICs
The maximum number of virtual disks includes the number of virtual NICs. If there are eight virtual NICs, only 32 virtual disks are supported. However, virtual disks are assigned a higher priority than virtual NICs. If you configure a virtual machine with 35 virtual disks and 8 virtual NICs, then 35 virtual disks and five virtual NICs are created.
