osu! for Mac Stable (Latest)

Note for MacOS 10.15 Catalina:

As the new version of MacOS drop support for 32-bit application and unfortunately osu! will not run on MacOS 10.15 Catalina. Please install osu! Lazer on https://github.com/ppy/osu/releases. This package will not be updated anymore.

  1. Download the osu! Lazer client, DO NOT move to /Application to replace the old client yet.
  2. Open the old osu! folder and go to drive_c — Program Files — osu!.
  3. Open Terminal by right click osu! folder and select New Terminal at window.
  4. Run the following command in the Terminal:
  • mkdir

    /.osu && mv Songs/ Skins/

    /.osu

  1. Start Lazer client and go to Settings.
  2. Find Import beatmaps from stable and Import skins from stable.
  3. Go to top right corner and open the sidebar, the runnning task would indicate the process.
  4. When it’s finished, delete the

/.osu folder from the Terminal.

    rm -r

/.osu

  1. Move the osu! Lazer client to /Application and replace the old one.
  2. Done and Enjoy!

Step to Install:

Download zip (196M) from this page, it should be sitting in Download folder.

If you are upgrading from the old client, DO NOT open the game or move to /Application and replace the old client immediately. There are some data migrations need to do.

  1. Open osu! folder for both old and new clients (right click on app — show package content — drive_c — Program Files — osu!)
  2. Hold command key and select all of the following folders and files from the old client side
    • Folders: Data, Songs, Skins
    • Files: collection.db, presence.db, scores.db, osu!.db, osu!.cfg, osu!.[Username].cfg
  3. Drag them to the new client side while holding option key. Note: If a symlink a created instead of copying the actual file (A symlink can be identified by an arrow at the corner), remove those symlink files and repeat those steps

Open the new client by right click and select open.

  • An error of no runtime can be ignored.
  • If prompted Gecko package is not installed, click cancel.
  • IMPORTANT!! When osu! installer appear, change the install location before countdown and select drive_c/Program Files/osu!
  • osu! will take a while to download and install itself. The game will start automatically when it finishes.

For the best perfomance, go to setting, set the frame limit to 240fps/Unlimited and turn full screen mode off.

Play a few games. If you’re happy with it, move the game to /Application and enjoy!

Mac Mini (Late 2014) 2.6GHz, 8G Memory, 256G SSD, MacOS Mojave 10.14.3, Wrapper Wineskin-2.6.2, Engine WS9Wine2.22

  1. Direct Download does not work on MacOS High Sierra 10.13.4 or later, git clone is an alternative option to download. (If you don’t already have xcode or command line tool installed, the terminal would prompt you for auto install.)
  • git clone https://github.com/Mic238/osu-for-Mac-Stable-Latest
  1. gdiplus is not compactible with cjkfonts, so it’s a trade off to get the setting icons and control buttons work and cjkfonts work. If you prefer cjkfonts more than those graphic glitches, you can follow these steps:

    1. Right click osu! — show package content — open wineskin — click advance.
    2. Click tools at the top — config Utility on top left, The config windows may take a few seconds to jump out.
    3. Go to Libries tab at the top — select gdiplus and click edit — then select built in (wine) and save.
    4. You can revert this setting by the same steps and select native (windows) to revert.

For in-game settings, Shaders would not work (potentially freeze the game), enable Soften Filters will blank the screen, enable Compactible Mode will crash the game. If you accidently turn these settings on, you can go to osu! folder and edit osu!.[Username].cfg with textedit and change the value of BloomSoftening or CompactibilityContext to 0 to fix it.

Some other glitches, osu! Direct from website would not work (in-game download works good). Discord-rpc will not work. Trackpad swipe gesture to switch desktop doesn’t work (Use Command+Tab to switch out).

    A Little Bouns for all:

To move the beatmaps faster in bulk, open the terminal, copy and paste this command followed by return:

    /Downloads/*.osz /Applications/osu\!.app/drive_c/Program\ Files/osu\!/songs'» >> .bash_profile

Restart terminal and from now on, you can simply type «osu» in the terminal to move all beatmaps from download folder to game beatmap folder, don’t forget to refresh the beatmap list on f5.

[Archived] How to install skins on mac?

Problem Details:So i was watching WWW and i liked the skin that he used. I wanted to install it but i don’t know how. Help please!

Video or screenshot showing the problem:

    osu! version: 20140814.1 (latest)

Hi, I’m also playing osu! on a mac at the moment. It is fairly similar to change skin on mac as it is pc.

    1. Locate your Osu! app (Default in your applications folder)
    2. Right click osu and select show package contents
    3. Now you are inside the app’s files (basically). Here you can modify whatever you want with osu! Click on osu! It should have a little arrow, representing that it is a shortcut on the icon of the folder.
    4. Now locate the folder called «Skins».
    5. This is where you put all the skins you want to use. For example if I want a skin that I saw online, I would download it. (Open it if it’s a .zip folder) and drag the folder containing all the skin element’s inside the «Skins» folder.
    6. Now open Osu!
    7. Go to options
    8. Search skin
    9. There inside osu, you will see a selector where you can select the skin you want. The name of the skin is based on the name of the folder you gave it when you put it into the «Skins» folder.
    10. Find it, apply and exit.
    11. Next time you play, the skin will be used as a default skin.

Tip: If you find a map that has a skin that you like, you can locate the song inside the «Songs» folder under the osu! directory, and then drag everything except the map and background files into a new folder inside the «Skins» Folder

I hope this helps. If you need any further help, or if my instructions weren’t clear enough, don’t hesitate to contact me. I am online everyday

How to get osu! running with Mac OS High Sierra

When trying to open osu! on mac OS high sierra, nothing happens. i tried various different methods to fix this and researched quite a bit, and i finally found a way to get it running (Note that this for the latest release of osu! not the stable release):

    1. Download this version of osu! from gitHub, https://github.com/Mic238/osu-for-Mac-Stable-Latest — once this is downloaded, extract it

    3. Open wineskin winery, and click ‘Create a new blank Wrapper’ — you can name this wrapper whatever you want, i named mine osu!

    4. As the wrapper is being created, it will ask if you want to install ‘gecko’ — click ‘install’

    5. Once the wrapper has been created, right click on it and open wineskin, and click on ‘set screen options’ and under the heading ‘Other Options’, make sure the boxes ‘Use mac driver instead of X11’ and ‘Decorate windows’ are ticked and the other 2 boxes are not ticked.

    6. Now go back on the main menu of your wineskin wrapper, and click ‘install software’ and then choose ‘move a folder inside’. Navigate to the ‘osu-for-Mac-Stable-Latest-master’ you extracted earlier and choose this

    7. Now it will ask you ‘Please select which executable file is normally used in windows to start this program’ — there will be a very long list of ‘.exe’ files but try and fine the file that ends with ‘osu!.exe’ and choose this one

    8. Once you have done this, close your wineskin window and quit your wrapper, and then re-open it again and osu! should start up. However, it will say ‘Could not install .NET Framework v4’ — leave it for now and x off osu!

    9. now go back into the wineskin in your wrapper and click on ‘advanced’, then ‘tools’, then click on ‘kill wineskin processes’ just in case. Now click on ‘winetricks’ and in the search bar search ‘video’ then open settings and tick the box that says ‘videomemorysize = 2048’ and run this.

    10. once it has been run, search for ‘dotNet40’ in the search bar and tick the box saying ‘dotNet40’ and run this. once run, it should open up a file saying ‘dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe’ and should also redirect you to a webpage. click off this webpage, but take this file and place it in your desktop (or anywhere else it is easily accessible)

    11. click off everything, and open up wineskin again, click on ‘install software’, then ‘choose setup executable’, and find the ‘dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe’ file and choose this.

    12. it should open up some ‘microsoft .net’ window but you should follow this and accept everything, and install everything. once everything from those windows has been installed, you should double click on your wrapper, and the latest version of osu! should be running on your mac
