osu! for Mac Stable (Latest)

Note for MacOS 10.15 Catalina:

As the new version of MacOS drop support for 32-bit application and unfortunately osu! will not run on MacOS 10.15 Catalina. Please install osu! Lazer on https://github.com/ppy/osu/releases. This package will not be updated anymore.

Download the osu! Lazer client, DO NOT move to /Application to replace the old client yet.
Open the old osu! folder and go to drive_c — Program Files — osu!.
Open Terminal by right click osu! folder and select New Terminal at window.
Run the following command in the Terminal:

mkdir
/.osu && mv Songs/ Skins/

/.osu

Start Lazer client and go to Settings.
Find Import beatmaps from stable and Import skins from stable.
Go to top right corner and open the sidebar, the runnning task would indicate the process.
When it’s finished, delete the

/.osu folder from the Terminal.

/.osu

Move the osu! Lazer client to /Application and replace the old one.
Done and Enjoy!

Step to Install:

Download zip (196M) from this page, it should be sitting in Download folder.

If you are upgrading from the old client, DO NOT open the game or move to /Application and replace the old client immediately. There are some data migrations need to do.

Open osu! folder for both old and new clients (right click on app — show package content — drive_c — Program Files — osu!)
Hold command key and select all of the following folders and files from the old client side
- Folders: Data, Songs, Skins
- Files: collection.db, presence.db, scores.db, osu!.db, osu!.cfg, osu!.[Username].cfg
Drag them to the new client side while holding option key. Note: If a symlink a created instead of copying the actual file (A symlink can be identified by an arrow at the corner), remove those symlink files and repeat those steps

Open the new client by right click and select open.

An error of no runtime can be ignored.
If prompted Gecko package is not installed, click cancel.
IMPORTANT!! When osu! installer appear, change the install location before countdown and select drive_c/Program Files/osu!
osu! will take a while to download and install itself. The game will start automatically when it finishes.

For the best perfomance, go to setting, set the frame limit to 240fps/Unlimited and turn full screen mode off.

Play a few games. If you’re happy with it, move the game to /Application and enjoy!

Direct Download does not work on MacOS High Sierra 10.13.4 or later, git clone is an alternative option to download. (If you don’t already have xcode or command line tool installed, the terminal would prompt you for auto install.)

gdiplus is not compactible with cjkfonts, so it’s a trade off to get the setting icons and control buttons work and cjkfonts work. If you prefer cjkfonts more than those graphic glitches, you can follow these steps:
1. Right click osu! — show package content — open wineskin — click advance.
2. Click tools at the top — config Utility on top left, The config windows may take a few seconds to jump out.
3. Go to Libries tab at the top — select gdiplus and click edit — then select built in (wine) and save.
4. You can revert this setting by the same steps and select native (windows) to revert.
For in-game settings, Shaders would not work (potentially freeze the game), enable Soften Filters will blank the screen, enable Compactible Mode will crash the game. If you accidently turn these settings on, you can go to osu! folder and edit osu!.[Username].cfg with textedit and change the value of BloomSoftening or CompactibilityContext to 0 to fix it.

Some other glitches, osu! Direct from website would not work (in-game download works good). Discord-rpc will not work. Trackpad swipe gesture to switch desktop doesn’t work (Use Command+Tab to switch out).

A Little Bouns for all:

To move the beatmaps faster in bulk, open the terminal, copy and paste this command followed by return:

/Downloads/*.osz /Applications/osu\!.app/drive_c/Program\ Files/osu\!/songs'» >> .bash_profile

Restart terminal and from now on, you can simply type «osu» in the terminal to move all beatmaps from download folder to game beatmap folder, don’t forget to refresh the beatmap list on f5.

osu! OS X

*NOTE* If you are trying / downloading osu! OS X for the first time, make sure you have / are in the process of registering for a osu! account. The game is needed to register / confirm your account.

DOWNLOAD THE INSTALLER BY NAVIGATING TO THE «INSTALLER» PAGE ON THE MENU OF THIS SITE

1) After you have downloaded the installer, open the installer. It should be named «osu!mac2016.zip».

2) Open the file. The installer should unpack, showing a folder with the required programs in it. It should look like the images below.

Move «osu!» in the «Applications» folder as shown in the images. Open the .dmg file to open and install XQuartz. After XQuartz installation, log in and out to get XQuartz working. This is necessary for XQuartz to create changes that make osu! work.

Opening the installer

Put the osu! app only in the Applications folder. Directly open from the installer the .dmg to install XQuartz.

Inside of the .dmg disk image there is a installation package.

Go through the steps to install XQuartz.

Check that XQuartz is installed inside the «Utilities» folder, which is inside of your Applications folder. Log out and log in again to let XQuartz change some computer things that’ll make it work.

YOU MUST PUT THE «OSU!» APP IN THE APPLICATIONS FOLDER. IF ELSE, THE GAME WILL NOT FUNCTION AT ALL. MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE INSTALLED XQUARTZ, IT IS CRUCIAL FOR THIS VERSION/RELEASE OF OSU!MAC TO WORK.

3) Open osu!. XQuartz will open, and a terminal window should appear. Though it doesn’t really matter, close that window. This is simply for organization.

4) After that, the osu! updater will launch, which should look something like the image at right.

5) Give the updater some time to work. It will reach 100% after some while, so don’t quit the updater. After it is finished, for some unknown reason, osu! will crash. This probably has to do with compatibility with OS X, but DO NOT WORRY. The crash will not happen again. It should show a crash window like in Fig. 1.

6) After the crash, CLICK THE «RESTART» BUTTON. This will relaunch osu! and get it to start again — and it will launch the «osu! updater (up right image)» again. This is completely normal. Do not worry. It go up to 100% again, and osu! should launch again. You’re almost finished!

7) After all these strange happenings, osu! should finally launch. Now you are able to log in and play.

8) A extra highly recommended tip for you is that after you download a beatmap, then right-click and click «Get Info» option. Scroll down to find «Open with». Then, click on the dropdown menu to click on «Other». A list of applications will show. Find osu! in this list of applications. Click add, then while still in your «Get Info» window, click «Change all». The computer will prompt you if you want to open all .osz files in the osu! app. (Like the image below) Click «Continue». Now all beatmaps should open in osu! directly when you click on them. If you’re confused about this extra process, then look below this section for visual guidance on how to do this.

9) Have fun! osu! should now be fully ready to play! Onwards to your osu! journey on OS X!

Note: osu!lazer (a.k.a. osu!next) is aiming to have the game running natively without these bamboozling steps. Let’s hope for the best, but this works best for now!

The osu! updater should show.

Click «Continue». Now all beatmaps will open via osu!.

When osu! needs updating, it will say that it has a new version of osu! ready. When you click on it, osu! will show this error:

Don’t worry. Though terribly inconvenient, all you have to do is reinstall. When you reinstall the game, the game automatically downloads the most recent version, so it will «update» the game. However, if you simply reinstall, then the game won’t save all your beatmaps and data. In order to save / preserve your data, do the following:
- Go to the osu!.app in your Applications folder.
- Right-click and find «open package contents».
- Find the folder «drive_c».
- Open it. It should have multiple folders in it, but find the «osu» folder.
- If you know how, then you can use Cmd + Shift + G to locate it at:

osu!macOS Agent is a tool designed for troubleshooting macOS installation issues and contains some other miscellaneous features.

Installation steps

Download the zip file from one of the above download links

Extract the zip file by double clicking on it

Right click on the extracted application and press Open

Click on the open button if it appears, otherwise:

Press cancel on the dialog that appears

Open System Preferences and click on Security & Privacy

Click Open Anyway

Click Open on the dialog that shows

Troubleshooting steps

Click on the Select button

Select the osu! application and press Open

Click on the Troubleshoot tab

Click the Scan button

Click the Repair button

Click the Copy Report button to copy a report to the clipboard
