После выхода IOS 14.5 появилась серьезная проблема для тех, кто ведет разработку под macOS Catalina. Для нормальной работы нужен Xcode 12.5 которому нужна macOS Big Sur
А это, чаще всего, требует обновления железна.
Да, есть патчи для самого Xcode с подменой SDK, но мне этот путь крайне не нравится т.к. имеет очень большие ограничения и не особо пригоден для нормальной разработки.
Вопросов приходит все больше. Решил описать подробней.
Предлагаю проверенный (на мой взгляд самый удачный, на сегодня) способ установки macOS Big Sur на Mac 2010+
Лично проверено на macMini Late 2012 (Macmini 6,1), MacBook Air 11 Mid 2011 (MacBookAir 4,1), MacBookPro 15 Mid 2012 (MacBookPro9,1), Mac mini Mid 2010 (Macmini 4,1)
На всех аппаратах стоит SSD и 8/16 памяти (кроме Air. на нем 4 по понятным причинам)
Продолжаем тестирование на других аппаратах.
Что получите на выходе:
Mac с установленной и полностью работающей Big Sur. Сама система не имеет никаких отличий в функционале от установленной на официально поддерживаемом железе.
Отдельно хочу отметить для тех, кто читает не внимательно. Описанный способ установки касается только компьютеров Apple. У хакинтошей свой путь.
Какие есть нюансы:
— не будет работать графическое ускорение
— работа wifi адаптера на основной массе устройств станет возможна только после установки соответствующего патча. На время установки стоит использовать подключение по Ethernet
— работа USB на аппаратах 2010 и некоторых моделях 2011 года (более новых это не касается) станет возможна только после установки патча. Если это не ноут, то стоит использовать bt клавиатуру и мышь.
— обновление Big Sur ставятся не через дельта-обновления, а через полны апдейт системы. Это чуть дольше, но позволяет избежать многих проблем.
— нужно понимать, что сама система рассчитана на новые компы. на старых, особенно 2010-2011 будет притормаживать. Не критично, но.
Для установки используем патч от #BenSova https://github.com/BenSova/Patched-Sur/releases

Перед установкой стоит ознакомится с официальным описание от автора https://bensova.gitbook.io/big-sur/
ВАЖНО! Патч еще в разработке и могут быть не очень корректные действия. Сам не встречал, но все может быть.
Кто ранее использовал подобный патч от #dosdude1 для установки Catalina / Mojave / High Sierra , увидят много схожего в процессе.
ВАЖНО! Обязательно сделайте резервную копию с помощью Time Machine. Это защитит данные и упростит их восстановление.
ВАЖНО! Все дальнейшие действия вы делаете добровольно на свой страх и риск.
Сам процесс:
1. Качаем Patched-Sur.dmg с https://github.com/BenSova/Patched-Sur/releases и запускаем
2. Запускаем патч.
3. Читаем вводную информацию.
4. Выбираем версию Big Sur для загрузки и создания установочной флешки. Для компьютеров 2010 стоит скачать 11.2.3 и потом обновить.
ВАЖНО! Нужна флешка 16Gb отформатированная Mac OS Extended (журналируемый) со схемой разделов GUID
5. Патч сам скачает выбранную версию (12Gb) и предложит выбрать флешку для создания установщика. Это процесс не быстрый. Запаситесь терпением.
6. Когда флешка будет готова, выключите компьютер и запустите его с зажатым Alt (Option). В списке загрузчиков выберите EFI Boot (это патч загрузчика). Он отработает и выключит компьютер.
7. Снова запускаем компьютер с зажатым Alt (Option). В списке загрузчиков выберите Install macOS Big Sur. Это стандартный установщик macOS. Диск, куда будет выполняться установка, нужно отформатировать в APFS со схемой разделов GUID
8. Установите macOS
9. После установки может быть 2 пути. 1 — все ок и система сама загрузится. 2 — во время загрузки будут ошибки.
— если возникли ошибки, снова запускаем компьютер с зажатым Alt (Option). В списке загрузчиков выберите Install macOS Big Sur. Поле загрузки выбираем Patched Sur (Post Install). Ставим все патчи и перезагружаем компьютер.
10. После загрузки системы стоит восстановить все данные из копии Time Machine
— после удачной загрузки (и восстановления) macOS в программах находи Patched Sur и запускаем его. Ставим все необходимые патчи и кексты.
— если это программы нет, стоит ее скопировать из корня установочной флешки в папку /Application или скачать Post-Install-App.dmg с https://github.com/BenSova/Patched-Sur/releases и запустить его
Что стоит сделать на последок:
Если у вас SSD не от самого Apple, то нужно принудительно включить режим TRIM
в терминале выполните команду
после ввода пароля, подтверждения действий и завершения процесса — компьютер будет перезагружен без особых предупреждений
Еще. Не рекомендую использовать FileVault. Но это касается не только патченной системы, но и любой обычной. Нет смысла себе создавать дополнительный гемор.

ВАЖНО! Не забывайте обновлять Patched Sur и mac os через него.

Установка Big Sur на неподдерживаемых маках

Обновление 15 мая 2021 С выходом 0.2.X (см. changelog) ошибок в самом патчере стало на порядок меньше. Или может быть дело в самом обновленном Big Sur 11.3.1. Чуть лучше стало работать. Рекомендую видеобзор на BenSova patcher.
В сентябре 2019 года я стал счастливым обладателем Mac Mini Late 2012. Более-менее приличная конфигурация Mini 2014 года выходила за пределы моего авито-бюджета в 20-25 тысяч рублей, поэтому решил купить Mini 2012 Late и самостоятельно проапргрейдить его. В итоге получился отличный сетап: 16 ГБ, SSD 250 Crucial MX и какой-то Seagate HDD 2.5 на 1 ТБ.
Бесконечные новости от 9to5mac и прочие appleinsider’ы дюже подогрели мой интерес к новой ОС от Эплъ. Ведь нам обещали прямо-таки новый интерфейс, чуть ли не айОС только на компутерах.
Спустя неделю после релиза, когда я уже успел обновить свой Macbook Pro Late 2013, я заподозрил неладное и начал немного переживать т.к. на Mini никак не прилетает апдейт.
Всё оказалось просто, как наши любимые на руси валенки. Ваш девайс ЕОЛ — покупайте новый, более вас не будем поддерживать — https://support.apple.com/ru-ru/HT211238
С одной стороны конечно было обидно, что я не увижу новых фич и новых глюков. А с другой стороны модель 2012 года пережила 8 (8 КАРЛ. 111) релизов ОС. Так что я не в обиде на товарищей из Омерики.
И тут я вспомнил про гарного заокеанского хлопчика dosdude1 с фантастической репутацией в области маков. Он уже выпускал ранее патчи для Catalina/Mojave/etc.
For those of you still wondering: No, unfortunately, I will not be making a Patcher for Big Sur, for the following reasons:
— The tool would need to be almost completely re-engineered, due to the completely different installer implementation Apple has done for Big Sur. While this normally wouldn’t be a problem for me, it does take quite a lot of time to produce something that looks nice, is user-friendly, and works relatively reliably. Unfortunately at this time, due to other projects and obligations, I don’t have quite as much free time as I used to.
— There are at least a few other Patchers developed by other people that work very well on the machines that I would support if I were to make a Patcher of my own (2012/2013 machines, and older models upgradeable to Metal GPUs only). An additional patcher would be redundant, as it would not offer any extra support than what is available in other Patchers.
With all that said, I will most likely make a patcher for the next major version of macOS released in the future. After developing, maintaining, and updating my patchers over the past 4 years, I really just need a bit of a break. I apologize if this is disappointing news to some, but don’t worry, there are many other talented developers working on Big Sur patchers, and I can assure you that you won’t be let down.

What is Patched Sur?
Patched Sur is a UI patcher for macOS Big Sur, designed to make it easy to run macOS 11 on unsupported Macs. This patcher hopes to allow any user of any knowledge to patch their Mac, while still giving you freedom on how you want to use your Mac.

(Basically it says if you have anything older than a 2012/2013 Mac it’ll be terrible).
Patched Sur isn’t just by me (Ben), I mostly put it all together and made it easier for people to use it, several other people have contributed to the patcher and the patches making this what it is today!
- barrykn: Made the micropatcher that introduced me to the patching process and restored my faith in my really old computer. He also helped pull together a lot of the patches used in this patcher.
- ASentientBot: Made the Hax patches for the installer and brought GeForce Tesla (9400M/320M) framebuffer to Big Sur.
- jackluke: Figured out how to bypass compatibility checks on the installer USB.
- highvoltage12v: Made the first WiFi kexts used with Big Sur
- ParrotGeek: developed the LegacyUSBInjector kext to get USB ports working on some older Macs and figuring out a way to skip the terminal commands when opening the installer app on the USB.
- testheit: Helped with the kmutil command in the micropatcher (that is used in Patched Sur too)
- Ausdauersportler: Integrated patches for iMac Metal GPU support.
- StarPlayrX: Pointed out startosinstall which was later used in the patcher to allow macOS updating support without a USB.
- ASentientHedgehog: Helped randomly along the way
- dosdude1: OpenGL/GPUSupport swap and of course his patchers which have helped with unsupported Macs patching even in Big Sur.
- Bweesh, Bruno Rocha, NickP0is0n, Noah Fetz, duke4e, riiveraluis, Dead_K1ller, and manthos03 for translating the app.
- John_val, fromeister2009, Mr. Macintosh, Emperor Epitaph, Finder352, Monkiey and 8itCat for testing some of the new features before release, and pointing out the bugs with them.
- and several others who helped with making Big Sur run as great as it does on unsupported Macs.
Patched Sur also uses two Open Source frameworks, Files and ShellOut by JohnSundell (MIT License), to help handle certain tasks.
You must Turn FileVault Off before using Patched Sur
The patcher shouldn’t let you upgrade anyway, but it’s good to make sure it’s off.
Also, know that turning it on after the upgrade isn’t a smart idea. By doing that, you’re preventing yourself from recovering your patched Mac in a lot of cases.
How do I use Patched Sur?
1. Download Patched Sur, (.dmg not .zip), from the GitHub releases page.
2. Open the dmg file, right click on the app, and click open.
3. The first three prompts are just information explaining the following:
- A quick intro into Patched Sur
- How much functionality you will get out of macOS once the patching process is complete
- How the patcher works, and what it does to your Mac
4. Next, you can choose what update track you would like to update with. Release is the default, but you can also choose Beta if you want one of the beta tracks. (Note: Apple does not always release InstallAssistant.pkgs for the beta tracks, this means you might be unable to get certain betas.)
5. Then, you can select whether you want to update macOS from Catalina to Big Sur (or Big Sur to Big Sur if you are switching from a different patcher) or do a clean install of Big Sur (currently unavailable).
6. After that, your Mac will start downloading @barrykn‘s micropatcher for kexts and a couple other resources.
7. Now, you will be able to choose what version of macOS to download. By default it will show the latest version based on your selected release track, but if you click View Other Versions , you can choose a different one or your own.
8. Once the download is finished, you need to enter your password, so Patched Sur can install the package. Then, after you select the USB drive you want to use to install macOS, the patcher can copy the installer onto the USB.
9. Finally, the USB gets patched and you are ready to start installation!
10. Reboot your computer, but immediately start holding down the Option/Alt key as soon as your Mac turns on.
11. Select the purple EFI Boot drive, (if there are multiple unplug and replug in your drive and select the EFI Boot that disappeared and reappeared). Then, your Mac will quickly turn off, so turn it back on while, again, holding down Option/Alt . Then, select Install macOS Big Sur.
12. Once the installer boots, select reinstall macOS and agree to the Terms and Conditions. Then, select the drive you want to install Big Sur onto, (it should be the same drive you ran the patcher on).
13. After the installer is done, (it will take a while and appear to get stuck), log in to your Mac and open Patched Sur from your Applications folder or LaunchPad.
14. Open the Patch Kexts section and enter your password. Then, you should be able to reboot and enjoy Big Sur!
How do I choose a my own installer?
To choose a different installer that you already have downloaded, click View Other Versions . Then, click Find an Installer and navigate to the InstallAssistant.pkg or Install macOS Big Sur.app file you would like to use.
How would I update macOS? (Starting in v0.1.0+)
To update macOS, follow the steps below.
1. Launch the post-install app and click Update macOS .
2. Select the version you want to update to, (the latest version should be pre-selected).
3. Once it finishes downloading the package, it will prompt you to install which will restart your computer after a little bit.
4. After the update finishes, open the post install app and patch your kexts.
5. Enjoy the latest version of macOS!
Note: Apple does not always release InstallAssistant.pkgs for the beta tracks and some minor updates, this means you might be unable to get certain upates.
