PDF Arranger

PDF Arranger — небольшое Python / GTK (PyGTK) графическое приложение для быстрого редактирования документов формата PDF (Portable Document Format).

PDF Arranger является форком PDF-Shuffler, создан в связи с прекращением развития, отсутствие активности оригинального проекта. Функционал приложения основан на возможностях Python-pyPdf, Ghostscript (PostScript-to-PDF конвертер) и Poppler (библиотека для рендеринга PDF файлов).

PDF Arranger имеет простой и интуитивно понятный пользовательский интерфейс, помогающий пользователю легко просматривать, объединять и разделять PDF документы, вращать и переставлять (перераспределять) отдельные страницы, поддерживается удаление и обрезка страниц документа (индивидуальная и групповая).

PDF Arranger работает в интерактивном режиме (внесённые изменения видны сразу), добавлять документы можно из меню и перетаскиванием (функция Drag-and-drop / Перетащи и брось). Все внесённые изменения сохраняются в отдельный файл, оригинальный PDF документ остаётся без изменений, для управления используется мышь и/или клавиатурные сочетания.

PDF Arranger is a small python-gtk application, which helps the user to merge or split pdf documents and rotate, crop and rearrange their pages using an interactive and intuitive graphical interface. It is a frontend for pikepdf.

PDF Arranger is a fork of Konstantinos Poulios’s pdfshuffler (see Savannah or Sourceforge). It’s a humble attempt to make the project a bit more active.

Customization of keyboard shortcuts

In case you are not satisfied with the default keyboard shortcuts they can be changed. To do so, set enable_custom to true in

/.config/pdfarranger/config.ini or C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\pdfarranger\config.ini and edit other lines.

Install from source

PDF Arranger requires pikepdf >= 1.7.0, but pikepdf >= 1.15.1 is highly recommended. pip will automatically install the latest pikepdf if there is no pikepdf installed on the system.

Run po/genpot.sh . The pot is an automatically generated file and as such should not be in the repository. It is to make life of some translators easier, but it may be often not synchronized with the source code. If you can regenerate it before adding or updating a translation, then do it.

For mnemonics accelerators (letters preceded by an underscore) try to follow those rules by priority order:

• be consistent with other GTK/GNOME software
• pick a unique letter within that given menu if possible
• pick the same letter as the original string if available
• pick a strong letter (e.g. in «Search and replace» rather pick s , r or p than a )

If possible test your translation to see it in context (see For developers)

You may test different languages with LANG=xx_YY python3 -m pdfarranger

Do not include pdfarranger.pot (or any *.po file which was just automatically regenerated) in your pull request. Submit only the translations you actually updated or added.

If you don’t want or can’t use the developers tooling ( git , po/genpot.sh , python , …) you can edit, download or upload the *.po files from the GitHub web pages.

What’s new in PDF Arranger 1.7.1:

When it comes to computer applications, the general belief is that bigger is better. However, that is not necessarily true. There are those simple tasks that you want carried out quickly and easily without having to go through the settings of a complex software tool. Fortunately, there are alternatives that usually do the trick just fine.

Let’s take, for instance, joining and splitting PDF documents. It is a simple task that should not give you a lot of hassle. Although there are more comprehensive PDF managers out there, some even very popular, a much more straightforward application, such as PDF Arranger, might just do the trick.

A PDF splitter and joiner

PDF Arranger is an open-source tool that can help you modify, join and split PDF documents. There are a few functions it can carry out but note that it is not a PDF editor. So, if that is what you are looking for, then this is not a winner.

What you can do with PDF Arranger is to import one or more PDF files either via the available menus or using drag and drop. Then, you can join them in a single file that can be easily saved to the local PC. Alternatively, a multi-page PDF file can be broken down into two or more documents.

Rearrange and manage pages inside a PDF

Other than merging and splitting PDF files, PDF Arranger can also help you rotate individual pages, crop pages to hide content, or permanently erase pages from a document. Additionally, the properties of the PDF document can be edited with ease via PDF Arranger.

It is also possible to duplicate a page or copy a page to the clipboard and paste it wherever you like. Furthermore, the order of all the pages can be reversed with a click.

Working with PDF Arranger is easy and pleasant, as the interface features a clean and visually appealing layout, with few buttons and a generous preview area. It is the perfect tool for PDF-related tasks that should be a routine, such as merging, splitting or rearranging pages.

PDF Arranger is an application for merging or splitting PDF files, as well as rotating, cropping and rearranging PDF document pages, using a simple graphical user interface. It’s available for Linux and Windows.

The tool, which is a graphical front-end for PyPDF2, is a fork of PDF-Shuffler that aims to «make the project a bit more active». It runs on Linux, but there’s also experimental Windows support.

The application is very simple and easy to use, with only a few buttons in its toolbar, to open a PDF document, save the current modifications, zoom in or out, and rotate PDF document pages. To rearrange the pages in a PDF file, open the PDF document you want to modify, and drag & drop the pages to change their order.

Most features are available in the application menu, either the hamburger menu on the header bar, or in the context menu. From there you’ll be able to export the current selection (export selected PDF pages), crop, duplicate, split pages, and cut / copy / paste PDF pages, even between multiple PDF Arranger instance.

The first stable release of PDF Arranger was made available for download a couple of weeks ago, and compared to the last stable PDF-Shuffler version, it includes changes like:

• Gtk+ 3 and Python 3 support
• Switch to pyPDF2 by default. Edit: with version 1.4, PDF Arranger has switched topython3-pikepdf, completely dropping pyPDF2. pikepdf has much better PDF support than PyPDF2, including support for PDF up to version 1.7, can save and load PDF compressed object streams, and is actively maintained, among others
• Added a new File -> Save menu item, which allows overwriting an existing document
• Added reverse order option: select multiple pages in a PDF file, then from the PDF Arranger menu select Edit -> Reverse Order
• Fixed zoom
• Fixed pages drag and drop

It’s also interesting to mention that PDF-Shuffler, which hasn’t had a new release since 2012, will be removed from Debian because it depends on the old python-poppler package (unless a new version is released that doesn’t depend on this package), which will be dropped from Debian 10 «Buster».

The PDF Arranger wiki points to binaries for many Linux distributions, including Debian / Ubuntu, Arch Linux and Fedora.
