Picasa – программа-органайзер ваших фотографий и видеоматериалов. Это программное обеспечение, с помощью которого Вы можете искать, просматривать, редактировать, печатать фотографии и обмениваться ими, превращать фотографии в «фильм» или коллаж, создавать слайд-шоу и многое другое.
Программа сканирует весь винчестер или указанные пользователем папки, индексирует все фотографии, графику и видео файлы, сортирует их в визуальные альбомы, упорядоченные по датам, так что потеряться ни одной картинке не удастся. Расположение фотографий в файловой системе не меняется.
Picasa позволяет одним нажатием применять разнообразные визуальные эффекты, а также вносить исправления используя целый набор средств редактирования фотографий — кадрирование, «улучшение» (enchance) снимка, удаление эффекта «красных» глаз, возможность выравнивания изображения, ручная коррекция цветовой температуры, теней, автоматическая коррекция контрастности и цветового баланса, насыщенности и т.п.
Страстные любители фотографии теперь могут редактировать изображения с помощью информации EXIF. Это окно показывает все данные камеры, которые сохранены в исходном файле изображения – например, модель камеры, дата, когда была сделана фотография, использовалась ли вспышка и т.п.

Question: Q: Picasa
I have been a longtime user of the photo editing a storage application Picasa that for familiarity and other reasons I prefer. I recently installed the Catalina upgrade and found to my dismay that I can no longer access any of my folders and albums in Picasa. (Picasa 32 bit, Catalina 64 bit) I realize that all of those files exist in Pictures, some edited, some not and not necessarily in historical order. I suppose I could restore back to Mohave or individually drag the files to some other photo application but would be interested in any other suggestions of how a rather low skilled senior could get back in to Picasa/

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid that would be the answer and I agree with all your comments. As a senior who struggles with complexity I am not sure where to go. Google Photos ***** in my opinion.

Sadly, we can’t. Google discontinued it a long time ago; there’s no way they will make a new Mac version that will work in Catalina.
Picasa was the only 32-bit program I was still using daily, and in years of searching, I haven’t found any other software as good. I’ve tried many, many programs. (I even have Adobe Lightroom, which I like for editing, but it’s slower and more complicated than Picasa for basic downloading of photos and viewing of them.)
Google is well known for dropping support of great software. Picasa was one of their bigger missteps, in my opinion.

I bought an old iMac (20in 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo) for $260 from Amazon, installed Picasa, and moved the data files and photos to the new (old) machine. Took 24 hours until it returned to it’s original setup (except for 18,000 unnamed photos to ignore).
Old Machine — I put my photos on an external hard drive. To get the data with facial recognition off my old mac, I went to
HD-Users-username-Library-Application Suppot-Google-Picasa3. My Picasa3 folder was 10 GB so I put it on the same external drive as the photos.
New Machine — I hooked up the external drive and replaced the Picasa3 file on the new machine with the one from the old machine. I told Picasa where to find the photos and then left it to do it’s magic.

I too am (was) a fan of Google’s Picasa. There new Google Photos is a pale comparison to the ease of Picasa. I have switched though to ACDSee for the mac. I used to use it years ago. It’s faster than Google Picasa and it’s database structure is similar. ACDSee is not free, but it’s well worth the $30 I spent on it. Might be something work looking into. They have a trial version you can try for 30 days.

Catalina not only drops support for 32-bit apps. It is even worse that Applications like DiskWarrior, TechTool Pro and Drive Genius cannot be released to rebuild directory of APFS disks (compulsory for booting disks since macOS 10.13 High Sierra, which was released by September 2017). I hope Apple could give us some detailed documentations about how to write to such disks.
I’m also a fan of Picasa and it’s sad to see macOS Catalina removed it from my Mac even without asking me for confirmation.

Thankfully Audacity came up with a 64-bit version of their program. I will miss Picasa though. Hard to believe Google killed such a great program and replaced it with garbage.

But on the new machine, you are not running the latest operating system, Catalina. Once you do that because it will stop working for you.

This machine was bought solely to run Picasa. No need to upgrade. Access to those identified photos justified the expense.

That is a clever way to salvage Picasa. Please explain what you mean by”18,000 unnamed photos to ignore. Also did you do this before you upgraded your main computer to Mohave?

I didn’t know I was going to lose Picasa otherwise I would have moved the program before I upgraded. However, I don’t think it makes any difference.
When you expand the People category in Picasa’s left menu, Unnamed is the top folder. Under that are all the folders I created to hold photos captured by Picasa’s face recognition program (e.g., each family member). Before I upgraded to Catalina, I had gone through the unnamed photo folder and either put correctly sorted photos I wanted quick access to or told Picasa to ignore. That folder was down to less than 2000 photos. When I set it back up on the new (old) iMac I bought, that folder was left with 18,000 photos to sort.
I have 15 storage totes full of family photos going back over 100 years. I have to come up with a process for sorting the photos once I have them scanned in. I’m afraid this is too big a job for Picasa and maybe me.

Look into ACDSee. It may be what you are looking for. It’s database capabilities are pretty sharp.
