I get the message above whenever I try to open any scanned documents or photos/pictures. Computer is brand new, 4GB RAM, only 35GB of 450GB hard drive used. But I get the message above when I try to open up any JPG, TIFF, BMP or other kinds of files. I have no other programs open, and nothing that would be using significant amounts of memory. No idea what’s wrong. I figure I should just reinstall photo viewer but I can’t figure out how to do that.

Use the below mentioned steps and check if this resolves your issue —

1. Click Start and go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Display\Screen Resolution and click advanced settings.
2. Go into color management and click color management.
3. Under devices tick use my settings for this device and the highlight and delete the profile associated with this device

Windows Photo app is not opening pictures on Windows 10.

Original Title: Windows Photo app Windows 10 not opening pictures

My photo app in windows 10 stopped working out of the blue two days ago 30/07/16. I click on a picture to open, the app opens but with no picture, then closes after about one to two seconds. I have made no changes to the system prior to this. No new programs. No new hardware. I have searched far and wide online to fix the problem. I have uninstalled the app and reinstalled it with no effect.

I have tried the advice offered on the windows forum

from Kalpana Shankarappa Microsoft Support Engineer, including;

1:Run the troubleshooter for Windows apps:

2:Check for updates for apps from Windows Store and install if you find any.

3: Type the following 4 commands at the CMD prompt:
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

from Nachappa C K Microsoft support engineer;

4: I suggest you to run the Windows store apps troubleshooter in Windows 10.

Follow the below steps to perform Windows store troubleshooter and check if it helps.

Press Windows + X keys on the keyboard and select Control Panel

Type Troubleshooting in the search bar on the Control Panel.

Click on View all on the left navigation pane.

Click on Windows store apps.

Click on Advanced on the Windows store apps dialog box and click on Run as administrator (Enter the credentials if required).

Click on Next and follow onscreen instruction complete the Windows store apps troubleshooter.

If the Photos app is the only one crashing, it could be a problem with the Photos app database.

To reset the database, perform the following:

1. Press windows button + R

2. Type: %appdata%\..\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.Photos_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState

3. Delete all the contents of that folder

I cannot make windows picture viewer my default app as I did a clean install of windows 10. Which is a shame because picture viewer was a really good program.

I am at my wits end. Does anyone know why this app fails to run? I get the impression from all of the suggestions from Microsoft that not even they know what is going on. Does Microsoft make windows picture viewer available for download or do they offer a patch so I can make it my default for my clean install of windows 10?

If anyone has an answer I would be greatly obliged.
