problems with 2 updates KB4580325 AND KB4577671

Im new here. Please help.

My laptop is having problems installing 2 updates. I have windows home edition. Its been over a month and a half that I’ve been trying to install these updates. The message I get is to restart required. Its very frustrating.

the first is an update for Adobe flash player Microsoft 10 version 1909 64 bit KB4580325.

the second is the cumulative update for Windows 10 version 1909 64 bit KB4577671.

Any ideas, solutions would be much appreciated.

  1. Download and run the System Update Readiness tool. This tool runs a one-time scan for inconsistencies that may prevent future problems with installing updates or service packs. To download and run the System Update Readiness tool (Checksur.exe), go to the following Microsoft website:

If you still cannot install the updates or turn on Windows features, go to Method 2.

If you still cannot install updates or turn on Windows features, go to Method 3.

  1. Click Start, type cmd in the Start Search box (Windows Vista) or the Search programs and files box (Windows 7), and then press Enter.
  2. Right-click cmd.exe, and then click Run as administrator. Click Continue if you are the administrator or type the administrator password, and then click Continue.
  3. In the command box window, type Sfc /scannow, and then press Enter. Note that there is a space before the forward slash in this command.

The scan may take some time, so be patient. Windows will repair any corrupted or missing files that it finds. If information from the installation DVD is needed to repair the problem, you may be prompted to insert your Windows Vista or Windows 7 DVD.

After the scan is complete, try to install the updates again. If you still can’t install the updates or turn on Windows features, go to Method 4.

Important You should use an in-place upgrade only as the final alternative if the previous methods don’t resolve your issue.
Be aware that it takes the same amount of time to do the upgrade as it does to reinstall Windows. Also, some of your customized Windows settings may be lost during this process.

Note Performing a repair installation will not damage files and applications that are currently installed on your computer.

To perform an in-place upgrade, follow these steps:

  1. Close all applications.
  2. Insert the Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, or Windows Server 2008 R2 DVD in the computer’s DVD drive.
  3. In the Setup window, click Install Now.

If Windows does not automatically detect the DVD, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, and then type Drive:\setup.exe in the Start Search box. Note: The Drive placeholder is the drive letter of the computer’s DVD drive.
  2. In the Programs list, click Setup.exe.
  3. In the Setup window, click Install Now.
  • Click Go online to obtain the latest updates for installation (recommended).
  • Type the product key if you are prompted to do this.
  • In the Install Windows screen, select the operating system that you want to Upgrade or Inplace.
  • Click Yes to accept the Microsoft Software License Terms.
  • In the Which type of installation do you want? screen, click Upgrade.
  • When the installation is complete, restart your computer.

Windows updates not showing in «installed updates»

I am using Windows 7 Pro SP1 64-bit. I want to remove IE 11 but when I go to look at Installed updates, only 47 items show. There are updates for MS Office, Adobe, etc., but no Windows updates. I have another laptop with the same OS and I can see the updates on it. Is there some option in Windows update I need to set?

    Replies (10) 

Not sure I totally follow, but:

( view as icons not categories )

    top left-ish click

When the complete list finally appears, is the ‘Microsoft Windows (number)‘ heading ( in blue ) listed?

If it is listed but there is nothing showing underneath it, then scroll to the end of its blue line and click the small Down Arrow.

Or are you saying the heading itself as well as all the updates isn’t there?

I have a new Windows 7 Pro 64-bit laptop that I received a couple of months ago. I want to remove IE 11 but when I go to look at Installed updates, only 47 items show. There are updates for MS Office, Adobe, etc., but no Windows updates. I have another laptop with the same OS and I can see the updates on it. Is there some option in Windows update I need to set?

Please answer each of the following [admittedly tedious] diagnostic questions in a correspondingly-numbered list in your very next reply, preferably without quoting my post:

1a. When (approx. date) did you get the computer?

1b. Was it a brand-new computer when you got it or a used (or refurbished) computer?

    2. What is the full name of your installed anti-virus application or security suite and when (approx. date) does your current subscription expire? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender) are installed? What third-party firewall (if any)?

    3. Has a(nother) Norton application or a McAfee application EVER been installed on the computer since you got it?

    4. Did a Norton free-trial or a McAfee free-trial [PICK ONE] come preinstalled on the computer when it was brand-new? (Doesn’t matter if it was never used or Activated.)

    5. Neither KB2961851, KB2925418, KB2953522, KB2929437, KB2926765, KB2931356; KB2922229, KB2929961 nor KB2930275 is listed in Installed Updates (not Update History), is that correct? [1]

    6. Assuming Java is installed => Is Java Version 7 Update 55 (or higher) installed? TEST HERE USING INTERNET EXPLORER ONLY! => http://java.com/en/download/uninstallapplet.jsp [2]

    7. Is Adobe Flash Player v13.0.0.214 (or higher) installed? TEST HERE USING INTERNET EXPLORER ONLY! => http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

8a. What problems are you having that you think might be resolved by uninstalling IE11?

8b. What Update Version and what KB number is displayed in the second line of text in IE11’s Help | About [Alt+H+A] tab?

    Example => Update Version: 11.0.54 (KB1231231)

8c. Is Firefox, Chrome or any other alternate browser installed?

    9. Are you in the habit of using «Registry cleaners» (e.g., Registry Mechanic; System Mechanic; RegCure; RegClean Pro; Advanced SystemCare; Registry Booster; McAfee QuickClean; Glary Utilities; AVG PC TuneUp; Norton Registry Cleaner; PCTools Optimiser; SpeedUpMyPC; PC Doctor; TuneUp Utilities; WinMaximizer; WinSweeper; Comodo System Cleaner; Advanced System Optimizer; CCleaner Registry Cleaner)?

George222, I see what is in the picture I sent – no heading or updates. I have another laptop for comparison which has the Windows Updates, but not this one.

PA Bear, here is the information:

    1b. New, purchased from Costco.com

    2. Norton Internet Security (NIS) version 21.3.0.12, 259 days remaining on subscription. No other anti-spyware or firewalls.

    3. Norton online backup and anti-theft (not activated)

    4. NIS trial version was installed. Registration information updated to use my multi-PC license.

    5. There are no Windows components listed in installed updates, just things like MS Office 2010, MS .Net, Adobe, etc.

    6. Java is apparently not installed. When I click that link, I get a message saying that the webpage uses Java, then a page that says “If you do not see any information in the space above after a minute, Java may be disabled or missing.”

    7. Version 13,0,0,214

8a. Websites not appearing correctly (I’ve tried compatibility view).

    8b. 11.0.8 (KB2953522)

    I appreciate your assistance.

Did you (a) uninstall the NIS free-trialware AND THEN (b) download/run the Norton Removal Tool & reboot (c) AND THEN do a clean install of your paid NIS version?

    • Fact: Norton (and McAfee) applications are notorious for not upgrading (or uninstalling) cleanly. The «leftovers» may be your troublemaker here.

Sorry it took so long to reply. I followed the procedure you suggested above and it made no difference. I checked after the reboot and again after the re-install. For your second question, that pane is present and looks fine to me.

I didn’t suggest anything, I merely asked two (2) questions.

    What «procedure» did you do?

So you did not (a) uninstall the NIS free-trialware AND THEN (b) download/run the Norton Removal Tool & reboot (c) AND THEN do a clean install of your paid NIS version on 15 or 16 April 2014 & before you installed any updates, is that correct?

Is the computer still under Warranty or a Service Contract, Sam?

[You will want to print these instructions for offline reference. You must complete all of the steps in one (1)uninterrupted session — allow a minimum of 1½ hours. If a Step says to reboot, reboot!]

    1. Right-click on the following link to download fresh copy of the Norton Removal Tool, saving it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

    2. Close all open applications (i.e., anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. After making certain you have a copy of your Product Key handy , uninstall Norton Internet Security and then LiveUpdate as well as any Norton Add-ons via Start | Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features.

    4. IMPORTANT! => Make certain that the Windows Firewall is enabled immediately after rebooting! [Should happen automatically but I want you to check.]

NB: You’re «working without a net» now: Don’t to ANYTHING else online (e.g., browsing; reading email; chatting) until you’ve completed Step #7 below!

    5. Right-click on the file you saved in Step #1 above and select Run as Administrator to run the utility again. Don’tTOUCH your keyboard until the run completes, then reboot.

    6. Do another clean install of Norton Internet Security using your Product ID, if need be, & reboot; see this page => https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/kb20090225155411EN_EndUserProfile_en_us?q=reinstall

NOTE: Do NOT enable or install any Norton Add-ons or toolbars (e.g., Norton Anti-Phishing) just yet.

    7. Manually and repeatedly run (Norton) LiveUpdate until you get a «no more updates» prompt.

    8. Download/run the appropriate scripts from the following Trusted Source (my colleague IE MVP Kai Schätzl): http://iefaq.info/index.php?action=artikel&cat=42&id=133&artlang=en

    Note => The scripts are good for IE9, IE10 & IE11, too!

Tip: The file named ie8-rereg.all.zip contains both of the scripts below (plus a third one you will NOT use).

9a. Close all open applications (i.e., anything with an icon on the taskbar) then double-click on the file named ie8-rereg.32on64.cmd to run the script.

9b. Close all open applications (i.e., anything with an icon on the taskbar) then double-click on the file namedi e8-rereg.64on64.cmd to run that script then reboot.

    10. Reset Internet Explorer per the MANUAL instructions on this page => http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737

Note=> For optimal results, check the Delete personal settings option.

12a. Open Internet Explorer (only!) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946414 [ignore the title & references to Vista].

12b. Ignoring any «Not recommended» or similar warnings, run Fix It 50202 in DEFAULT and then AGGRESSIVE modes. [1]

    13. Reboot one last time & test.

    14. Reply to this post with a status report.

    ==========================================================
[1] Full Disclosure: Running the Fix It in AGGRESSIVE mode will delete your Update History but not the list of Installed Updates.
