Run unsupported PreSonus FireStudio* on Mac OS Catalina 10.15 and Big Sur 11.1 (Intel Only)
THIS WILL NEVER WORK ON APPLE SILICON (M1) MACS
NO SUPPORT WHATSOEVER IS PROVIDED FOR THIS! IF IT EATS YOUR FIRSTBORN, THEN IT IS ON YOU.
This Application will help install the Firewire driver and Universal Control v1.7.6
for unsupported PreSonus Firewire devices on Mac OS Catalina 10.15 and above
What the app does:
- Downloads and installs the new 10.15+ compatible Firewire driver from UC v3.4.2-63992
- Downloads the old UC Control Panel app from v 1.7.6-5875
- Extracts the control panel and panel drivers from the old version
- Installs Universal Control.app and the panel drivers in the correct locations
- Fixes permissions on the installed software.
See (Silent) Video of it in operation here:
- Download the latest DMG release
- Open the DMG file and double-click the «Firestudio Catalina» app
- Reboot when finished.
To uninstall, run the PreSonus uninstaller from the new dmg:
PreSonus_UniversalControl_v3_4_2_63992.dmg
Mac OS Gatekeeper may ask for permission to run the new Firewire driver if you have SIP enabled, if prompted, Visit System Preferences->Security & Privacy to allow the driver to run.
You may need to power-cycle the interface once after the driver is installed.

PreSonus FireStudio Project Universal Control / Driver 1.5.3 / 3.5.6 for Mac OS
Description
Free Download
The Universal Control 1.5.3 update includes drivers and control panels for following products:
· FireStudio Mobile (Launch Window, Device Mixer, Driver)
· FireStudio Project (Launch Window, Device Mixer, Driver)
· FireStudio Tube (Launch Window, Device Mixer, Driver)
· FireStudio Lightpipe (Launch Window, Device Mixer, Driver)
· StudioLive 16.0.2 (Launch Window, Virtual StudioLive, Driver)
· StudioLive 16.4.2 (Launch Window, Virtual StudioLive, Driver)
· StudioLive 24.4.2 (Launch Window, Virtual StudioLive, Driver)
Universal Control 1.5.3 updates VSL for StudioLive-series mixers only. The driver for these products is the same version (3.5.6.11675) that was included in the Universal Control 1.5.2 release.
Universal Control v1.5.3 includes the following feature updates to Virtual StudioLive for StudioLive-series mixers:
· Aux Naming
· Copy Aux Mixes
· Copy Main Mix to Auxes
· Copy Channel and Bus settings
· Tap Tempo
· Link Graphic EQs
· Permissions for iOS Remote Devices
· Support for SL Remote 1.2
· Support for QMix 1.0
Universal Control 1.5.3 resolves the following issues:
· Aux output metering is not reflected in VSL as it is on a StudioLive
· Scenes transferred from VSL to the mixer load properly on the mixer. Not all parameters of VSL created
scenes would load properly if recalled from the mixer instead of dragged in from VSL browser.
· VSL : When two StudioLive 16.4.2’s are cascaded together, VSL does not control the panning of channels
sent to linked auxes on the master board.
· VSL : When two StudioLive 16.4.2’s are cascaded together, WDM routing for the master board is offset.
It is highly recommended to always use the most recent driver version available.
Try to set a system restore point before installing a device driver. This will help if you installed an incorrect or mismatched driver. Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or not supported any longer.

PreSonus FireStudio Universal Control / Driver 1.2.2715 / 3.5.5 for Mac OS
Description

Universal Control 1.2 svn 2715 Update
Universal Control is a single file that contains the following elements:
FireStudio Family
• Device and Launch Windows
• Driver ver 3.5.5
StudioLive Mixer Family
• Device and Launch Windows
• Virtual StudioLive
• SL Remote iPad App
• Driver ver 3.5.5
This Universal Control update contains a driver update that resolves three known issues and contains the following improvements:
• StudioLive Family: Adds iPad support via the SL Remote application for the StudioLive 16.4.2 and StudioLive 24.4.2 (available free at Apple App Store).
• Windows 7: Resolves a known driver efficiency bug
• Mac: Resolves a Mac Pro “Westmere” processor conflict
Installation Instructions (Mac and Windows)
1. Quit out of Universal Control and disconnect your unit from your computer.
2. Run the installer and follow the onscreen instructions. Both installers require that your computer be rebooted upon successful their completion.
3. Once your computer has restarted, connect your FireStudio or StudioLive series device and open Universal Control.
4. Open the Launch Window and go to Settings>Check Firmware to verify that your unit’s firmware is up to date
5. StudioLive users only: Once your StudioLive firmware has been updated, you will be given the option to restore your user presets and scenes back to your device’s memory, or to reset your StudioLive to factory default. If you select “reset”, your entire set of user Scenes and Presets will be deleted. This cannot be undone.
Please Note:
With any firmware update there is a small risk that some scenes or presets will be lost, because of this, it is highly recommended that you back up your scenes and presets in VSL prior to running the Universal Control svn 2108 update.
Known Issues (VSL 1.2 only)
• Only the link Master Sub button illuminates in VSL when Aux Return A or B is assigned to linked Subs. On the mixer and in SL Remote both Sub buttons light up as expected.
• If the iPad sleeps for 30 seconds or more, the app can disconnect from the mixer. You must force quit SL Remote and restart the app.
Known Issues (SL Remote 1.0 only)
• Post EQ and Dynamics on the mixer (labeled Post DSP in SL Remote) is always enabled for subgroups on the mixer. In SL remote even though Post DSP toggles, it is always enabled.
• When a GEQ pair is assigned to a linked bus or the Main bus, the GEQ faders must be moved independently. Corresponding bands of the GEQ for the Left and Right channels do not move synchronously.
It is highly recommended to always use the most recent driver version available.
Try to set a system restore point before installing a device driver. This will help if you installed an incorrect or mismatched driver. Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or not supported any longer.

Mac OS X 10.14 continues with a warning with .KEXT file extensions
With the newest security updates on Mac OS X 10.14 Mojave (and previously with Mac OS X 10.13 High Sierra), our USB, Thunderbolt and FireWire interface drivers may run into issues mounting on the OS. You may be prompted to grant the KEXT file permission to install in your operating system. Please read the following article to learn more about GateKeeper and KEXT files.
Tech Tip when upgrading your install of OS X to a newer version of OS X.
We do recommend that when you do update your OS from a previous version, make sure you power down and / or unplug (especially Thunderbolt devices) all of your existing hardware from your system except of course keyboard / mouse and networking. Let the system update all preferences to the new OS version, then plug in and power on your gear and let the new system initialize a new set of preferences. If you’re arriving at this article because you’re having issues after the upgrade and want to know why, you may have to uninstall and reinstall drivers and/or applications to resolve any OS update issues.
This has been a norm with Apple OS updates since the early days of OS X. For future versions of OS X that come out as dot releases can create the same issue, download and install the combo update for the OS version you’re installing for can also help to remedy the problem.
An alternative would be to partition your storage drive and install new OS X, you’d have to reinstall your applications and your drivers, then you’ll have the option of going back to the older version if needed and all your files are still accessible across partitions.

How do I Uninstall and Reinstall my device drivers for the StudioLive on a Mac?
16 Nov 2020
Why would I need to Uninstall & Reinstall my FireStudio drivers?
- My Universal Control crashes when I launch it
- My device Device window is not opening properly or not opening at all
- My Universal Control launch window displays driver version «0.0.0.0»
- My OSX just updated and my StudioLive no longer connects over FireWire
Answer:
Sometimes drivers do not install properly and can cause numerous issues with the functionality of your device. This is usually caused by certain files not being overwritten properly, older files from previous installs causing conflicts, or updates to your OS System ‘breaking’ the driver communication. These issues can normally be resolved by simply manually uninstalling the driver and software before installing the new version.
Uninstalling Universal Control (‘Classic’ Mixer version) using the Uninstaller application
NOTE: Since the release of Universal Control 1.7.4, we now have an uninstaller for OSX (10.6.8 and later ONLY) which will remove all Universal Control and Firestudio related files (just as a manual uninstall would). Download Universal Control 1.7.x or above for Mac, double click on the Presonus_Universal_Control_17.dmg that you downloaded, and run the Un-installer first., then continue with the uninstall and re-install process starting with the section Removing .bom and .plist files below, and making sure to do the Disk Permissions Repair and PRAM reset steps.
NOTE: On OSX 10.8 and later, you may need to temporarily disable Gatekeeper to allow the uninstaller to open and run. See here for info: http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT5290
If you do need to do the manual uninstall by hand, the instructions are as follows:
Manually Removing StudioLive / FireStudio family Drivers and Software
1. Disconnect your StudioLive / FireStudio Family interface
2. Double click on MacHD to launch a new finder window. The following list includes every possible file that may have been installed on your Mac, depending on which driver versions you have installed. If you do not see one of these files, do not be alarmed. The files are listed by location tree. For example, to locate the MacHD/Library/Preferences/PaeFireStudio.startup file, you will double click on MacHD and Open the Library folder. In the Library folder, you will open the Preferences folder where you will find the PaeFireStudio.startup file. This is the file you will move to the Trash.
3. Delete the following from your computer (note some files will require that you type in your administrative password):
- MacHD/Applications/Universal Control
- MacHD/Applications/FireStudio Control Console
- MacHD/Applications/FireControl
- MacHD/Applications/FireStudio Lightpipe Mixer
- MacHD/Applications/StudioLive
- MacHD/Library/Application Support/PaeFireStudio
- MacHD/Library/Application Support/PreSonus
- MacHD/Library/Audio/MIDIDrivers/PAEFireStudioMIDIdriver.plugin
- MacHD/Library/Preferences/PaeFireStudio.startup
- MacHD/Library/Receipts/PreSonusUniversalControl.pkg
- MacHD/Library/Startup Items/PaeFireStudio
- MacHD/System/Library/Extensions/PaeFireStudio.kext
(If you are using OSX 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion, the User Library folder is hidden. To get to it, with Finder open click the GO menu at the top, or control-click on Finder in the Dock, then select «Go To Folder» and enter:
/Library. This is necessary for deleting the next 4 files)
- MacHD/Users/YOUR USERNAME /Library/Caches/Juce/jucAppLock_Universal Control
- MacHD/Users/YOUR USERNAME/Library/Caches/Juce/Universal Control
- MacHD/Users/YOUR USERNAME /Library/Preferences/FireControlSettings.settings
- MacHD/Users/YOUR USERNAME/Library/PreSonus
Removing .bom and .plist files
***If you’ve done the UC 1.7 uninstall script method above, and these files are not there, you can proceed with the next section.
Note: if you use Snow Leopard, Lion or Mountain Lion, you also need to do the following:
- Right Click the Finder
- From the pop-up window select Go To Folder
- Paste or type in this string: /private/var/db/receipts
- In the folder that opens, find the files that have Universal Control in the label and move them to the Trash.
